I haven’t tried La Femme nor Ben Nye CAKE liners (the ones specifically marketed as such)…but I used to use Kryolan Aquacolor black in the past which irritated my (extremely sensitive) eyes no matter what.
This doesn’t. It shows up soft or deeper but not super defined like a gel liner (which I like, as my eyes look bigger with the softer line and softer black this gives). The line doesn’t become blurry unless you deliberately smudged it before it dried or made it softer and blurry intentionally. I love cake liners for the way you can switch brushes or amount of water mixed, for different effects and density of colour.
It works dry too, if you just want basic definition at lashlines. The sealer is good but water is too.
Before the line completely dries, one can also pat on top, with a liner brush, a coloured shadow like teal to get a tint to the line that lasts all day

I use it for tightlining. Not the waterline, but the roots of the lashes. It holds up very well. And I don’t even use the sealer. It flakes when I take it off, and can flake occasionally while wearing it.
I have no experience with other cake liners, but I’ll likely get no experience with others either 😉

I love love love these cake liners! The come in a pan with a screw top. They are hard and dry and need liquid to be activated. I usually use a cake liner sealer by LaFemme but even water would work. You can then use the brush that works best for you and have a perfect liquid liner! This product comes in many colors but it is hard to find. Best luck would be any store than carries the kryolan product line.
