Good pigment but it smeared everywhere and ended up messy looking

When the pencil is sharp I love this eyeliner! I’ve tried several different sharpeners and have ruined two pencils trying to sharpen them. When I do get a small tip It falls off. I am positive the pencil is plastic, therefore does not sharpen well. I am curious as to why the bottom of the pencil turns even though it is not a « wind up » pencil. I’m sure this question will seem ridiculous, but, is there a possibility that the manufacturing process is incorrect? I am going to take my product to store where I bought it to see if a proper sharpener exists. I will post here again with the result.
Thank you

I have Brewed which is a very richly pigmented cool toned dark brown eye pencil. Goes on without tagging, sets fast and stays put. Looks intense on the waterline too but as everything it does fade there as expected. No issues overall, too bad the other shades except from the black don’t appeal to me because formulation is fantastic!
Edit: Got the black “Fishnet” too, great application and longevity but I have to apply a few strokes to get intense pigmentation.

This gel eyeliner is very, VERY pigmented. It is one of the richest, matte blacks I’ve ever used, particularly for a pencil. It is a gel eyeliner, and you are required to sharpen it. Every point of sale based review bashes how much the product needs to be sharpened or how difficult it is. While I do agree that it is troublesome to clean the sharpener after getting the pencil back to a point, it is not a product defect or flaw that the pencil must be sharpened after every use. It is a pencil, and it is very soft and very opaquely black. I cannot fault the product for being both soft and difficult to sharpen. I feel that is a trade-off and kind of the nature of the product being purchased here (soft, pencil) so that would no be reasonable to complain that the product acts as intended.
I have not had any issue while using Essence’s brand dual-ended sharpener. I’ve heard that it is comparable to Urban Decay’s Grindhouse sharpener but I have not used that. In some of my more standard sharpeners, this pencil has not fared quite as well.
However, I have noticed that this pencil seems to be nearing the end of its life I am hoping? The product tends to flake off in hard little pigmented bits that irritate my eye. This is not during wear throughout the day; this occurs after I have attempted to remove the product. Leaving it on seems for some 12-18 hours and I find it has almost bonded to my eyelashes and nearly impossible to completely remove. I wanted to purchase a holiday set of 4 that comes with a liquid liner, but I am not sure. I have an additional one (newer, but still the same product) and will adjust my review after I have seen if this is characteristic of the liner or if it is just a sign of the product aging/drying out.

I have this in Fishnet (black) and I’m pretty impressed with it. It goes on super smoothly so I can easily get a clean, sharp line but it stays creamy for a few seconds so I can smudge it out a bit if that’s the look I want. After it sets it really is budgeproof, but it still comes off fairly easily at the end of the day (I do use an eye make up remover but its not one for waterproof/longwearing make up and it works fine with this). I have no problems with sharpening although the outer part of the pencil is pretty hard so I think you need a decently sharp pencil sharpener. My NARS and Urban Decay sharpeners have no problems with it. I always prefer a pencil you sharpen instead of a twist-up one as you can get a finer point that way. You also tend to get more product in this kind of pencil – compare this at 0.04oz to the Smashbox Always Sharp at 0.01oz- so its good value. I’m planning to buy again

I loved Smashbox products until I bought this liner. The color is perfect, but You cannot sharpen it. I tried
everything, even my mounted regular pencil sharpener. So the money I spent on it, is worthless. Plus , after I put it on it smears onto my lower lid- raccoon eyes. Save your money!
