I totally agree with the reviewer who said this liner lasts 3 weeks — that’s exactly how long mine lasted too! I used it for tightlining, and it’s very easy to push the liner into the lashline, but the push-up part is super-soft and I lost a lot of pencil to breakage. It stayed put for 10+ hours on me (minor transfer to the lower waterline, nothing major), and comes off easily with an oil-based remover — my Garnier micellar water didn’t touch it, so I had to switch to olive oil. But yeah, this liner is crazy expensive and didn’t even last a month for me. I won’t repurchase this, because with roughly 17 three-week periods in a year multiplied by the $18 price tag, that’s over $300 per year on EYELINER. No thanks! I’m going to try the MJ Highliner and maybe the UD 24/7 eye pencil next — even though they’re equally pricey, I’m certain they will last longer than 3 weeks.

Oof! I used this today and when I looked at my face when I came home early evening, I was Alice Cooper. Granted, it was snowing a little bit. But I didn’t think that this eyeliner would just slide from the upper lid to my waterline and lower lash line, leaving a pale, ghost trace of the careful line that took me some time to draw this morning. I like my eyeliner to stay in place. If I wanted a smoky “fell asleep wearing mascara” look, I’d just go ahead and do it. Thank goodness I didn’t actually pay for this (came in a seasonal gift bag with purchase) but I still hate it and won’t use it again.

I love this eyeliner formula. It always looks perfect and it’s super easy to apply. That being said, I will not be repurchasing this and I can’t recommend it. I ran out after about 3 weeks of use, which is ridiculous for such an expensive product.

This draws the most perfect thin, buildable deep black line. However, it disappears off my waterline and lid (and even with a primer) in no time. As others have said, you get a tiny amount of product for the price, and it is not retractable. I do not recommend & won’t repurchase.

This is the blackest, slimmest gel eyeliner I’ve ever used. It makes every other liner I’ve used look grey. It’s so slim that I can tightline easily and stays soft just long enough to smudge it out. I absolutely love it — even the fact that it’s not retractable hasn’t put me off.

This is my favourite eyeliner, its perfect for the waterline and for smoking out on the lash line. it goes on easily and smoothly. It lasts all day, minimal transfer and usually eyeliner smudges under my eyes on me. The only negative is theres not much product for the price.

Not sure when Hourglass released the Canyon (black-brown) and Ocean Floor (navy) colors of this pencil, but I’m so glad they did! For an everyday “natural” look, I prefer to use a dark brown eyeliners(saving black for dramatic/special occasion looks) to create the appearance of a thick lash line. The super skinny tip helps me stay close to the lash line while maintaining a really sharp edge (which can be smudged before it sets).
I’ve seen other reviews complain about the brittleness of the pencil — I experienced this as well upon first application but then it softened after a few swipes and I haven’t had application issues since. You can warm up the product and smooth out the “sharp” edges of the brand new product by swiping 1-2 times on the back of your hand before application. Make sure you don’t twist the product more than 3 clicks because you will risk breaking the pencil.. it is only 1.5mm thick after all!
This product has yet to smudge on me and I have oily eyelids. Most importantly it has notable staying power on the waterline but if your eyes water a lot, the chemical composition of your tears combined with the physical action of blinking your eyes will eventually push the product off of the waterline.
It’s hard to find cruelty free, dark brown waterproof eyeliners so I’m glad to have found this (IT Cosmetics makes a good dark brown waterproof gel eyeliner as well but they just got purchased by L’Oreal UGH).

I wanted to like this. I love how thin it is and it stops there.
The liner smudges – even with eye primer and I don’t even have oily eyelids. I use it in my upper water line and a few hours later I have panda eyes (I used it on a day that I did not wear mascara so I am certain it is the liner that is smudging). It is also hard to use as it applies unevenly and drags at the lids.
It is a twist pen type packaging which is nice but once you twist the product up, you cannot twist it back down which is annoying.
I would not repurchase and I would not recommend this. I usually love Hourglass and but this was a disappointment.

THIS STUFF IS AMAZING. I am a raccoon eyed queen by the end of the day. I glide this onto my waterline and tightline with it and it does NOT budge. If you haven’t tried this, you want to go to your nearest Sephora and give it a go. So happy with this purchase!!!

Did they change the formula of this? Suddenly is is awful for me, not sure what changed. It barely shows up on my waterline now. I don’t know what happened…
I’m obsessed with this stuff. It’s perfect and amazing. If you’re looking for something to line your waterline, this is IT! I don’t think it would be good for any other eyeliner needs, but for tightlining it is the best. It makes tightlining super easy and stays put. I love it. I have deep set eyes with very fair lashes at the root, so tightlining the upper lid really helps my eyes stand out and boosts the look of dark lashes and mascara alone can’t really do. Love, love.
