Disclaimer: I’ve never actually tried Laura Mercier cream eyeshadow stick. Odd, because that is considered to be the gold standard for this type of product. I did have a Sephora sharpenable eye crayon in a light matte pink that I used down to the last half-inch. Love that product, but wanted to try something different. So, here comes Marcia Kilgore with this idea to offer high-end products in minimal packaging, with minimal advertising, to save us money. That’s the premise of Beauty Pie (rhymes with “cutie pie”–get it? get it?!). It’s a basic line with some interesting products. I saw that one of the e/s stick colors is Pink Velvet, a matte, so I pulled the trigger.
I LOVE this shadow stick. Others have said it is a virtual dupe of the LM. That I wouldn’t know, but it is a beautiful “my lids but better” fleshy pink that doesn’t crease and is a great base for powder shadows. No fragrance, which you wouldn’t want in an eye product. The packaging is almost identical to the LM. The kicker? The price: I paid $2.48. No, seriously.
The way the purchasing works is, you buy a membership, then you can buy up to $100 (USD or GBP) of their estimated retail value of products per month. So in my initial order, I bought this eyeshadow stick and two lipstix for less than $3 each. With each product being less than $5, and a membership being $10, you know what the most expensive part of the order was? The shipping! The orders ship from the UK, and arrive wrapped in cute layers of pink and then black tissue paper.
