I mostly wear only matte eyeshadows and have been waiting for BH Cosmetics to offer an all matte palette for awhile. I’m not a huge BH fan, but, a lot of smaller YouTubers I watch seem to really like their matte formula. So, when I saw the Ultimate Matte eyeshadow palette was half off for $14 US, I decided to pick it up.
Sooo, it’s not good, fellow makeup lovers. It’s a lovely looking palette with a really nice set of shades but the pigment is lacking. The formula is extremely powdery, which I usually don’t mind but you tap of your brush a bit and there’s zero product/pigment left to put on your eyes.
The packaging is your typical cheap Morphe type black plastic, no mirror (which I don’t mind at all, just stating for reference), the lid doesn’t prop up at all, it just flops around, it’s large, unwieldy and hard to manage. No shade names, which also doesn’t bother me much but fyi. The pans are a nice size, you really do get a ton of product (54 grams!). But, for anyone wanting anything other than a very subtle look, sadly, this isn’t it. Go with Morphe. I would have, but, Morphe is extremely expensive to purchase from Canada so on principal, I’ve stopped shopping with them. But, honestly, even with a surcharge, Morphe shadows are worth it. I also am not a fan of these huge palettes so, I just don’t need to shop at Morphe at all but they really are a great option for low cost/high pigment shadows.
One thing this palette would be perfect for, a beginner makeup lover looking to experiment. You really can’t go wrong because it’s so subtle most bold type looks won’t be too shocking for a pre or young teen using this palette. But, if you’re in the US where Morphe is a real option, sadly, I would just skip this all together.
The adage “you get what you pay for” doesn’t apply much anymore (we can thank Coastal Scents back in the day for that!) but in this case, it applies.
