Triton is described on the Chantecaille website as “A warm and moody silvery gray.” That, believe it or not, is quite right. Triton is a chameleon. It looks like a medium, neutral-to-warm brownish-blah-grey in the pot, but can look grey, brown, taupe, green, or silver on the lid depending on the light and application. Part of this is due to the very fine shimmer it contains. It’s mostly silver, but if looked at in direct sun, it’s easy to distinguish a sprinkling of other subtle colors throughout. The product has a dry, firm texture that feels a bit gritty when picked up with a finger, but don’t let that put you off. The application is incredibly smooth and easy, and it’s easy to apply a wash or build it up for a bit of drama and a beautiful sheen that’s subtler than metallic. It wears extremely well–8+ hours in heat and humidity–with no creasing and only a little fading. The shadow is packaged in a small pot that allows easy access with a brush or finger, and I’ve had no issues with it drying out even though I’ve had it for over a year (the texture is the same as the day I got it–impressive). If you’re looking for a shadow that’s different yet elegant, works for casual, work, or evening looks, *and* is a one-and-done, this is it. A medium application of Triton with liner (changing liner shade really changes the look–navy, brown, grey, black, green) and mascara makes a most elegant everyday eye look (I just pop it on over a primer with a finger), and because it’s so changeable, you can wear it daily without seeming like you’re in an eyeshadow rut. Like all things Chantecaille, it’s expensive, but well worth it. I would repurchase.
