I find the dark colours to be very dark and the light ones to be too light. Even with a paler (than my skin tone) eyelid concealer the pink just doesn’t show up. Although I do love the other colours and use the pallet everyday! They are powder and may take a lot for the lighter ones to show up.

As far as the nudes palette goes, the fact that not ALL the shadows had pigmentation was fine with me, as it is a NUDE palette, meaning that if you want drama look elsewhere.
This on the other hand, should be highly pigmented. Most of the shades had hardly any pigmentation at all, and the matte dark colors had NO pimentation (The black in the nudes was amazing by the way) I found that the matte shades had a nice texture, but that doesn’t matter when the overall product is crap, I had to go back about 3 times on top of a white cream base to get the color to look anything like in the package
There is the odd pretty shimmery shade in the palette, but they are quite flaky.
Why am I giving this 2 stars not 1? If you first apply a white cream shadow base such as NYX milk, before applying this, and really pack the color on, you CAN get a smokey, sultry look. But, it takes a long time to get the look,
and what people don’t realize is it costs just as much as purchasing a highly pigmented good quality palette for more money because you use the product up far more quickly when you have to use more in order to get the look you want. And here in Canada, its not even cheap…15$ for a shadow palette where only a few shadows actually work? Give me a break!
This also faded within a few hours.
There ARE amazing better priced smokey eye kits out there such as Wet n Wild don’t steal my thunder, spoiled brat, or the 8 pan palette,
There is no need to purchase this by any means.

this palette is great for beginners who want to achieve a smokey eye. you might want to build the black color on gradually as I find that payoff less than what I expect. i used this pallete for my look for New Years and ended up with great results. can’t wait to try the nudes

Hi there! Think I’m the first person to make this review for the new “The Smokes” pallet by maybelline, this is their second pallet after “The Nudes” and I hear there coming out with another one called “The Brights” which I am eger to try.
ANYWAYS to the review…
This pallet comes 12 gorgeous shades that are all very Fall/Winter colors with only about..4 matte shades while the rest are shimmer or microshimmer just as “The Nudes”..while the some shimmers have great pigmentation the others look brighter and more outstanding in the pan than swatched/worn on the eye.
The mattes are not completly disappointing but are a tad chalky but are STILL useable, same problem with Maybellines last pallet.
I’ve experienced some minor fallout but the shimmers are easier to work with than the mattes, in my experience they blend just fine no issues there.
I payed about $11.00 for mine (US) and that’s about the same as “The Nudes” price tag, I can’t completely say this is a bad pallete cuz I try to give everything a chance although it is lacking it is still workable and a beautifuk veriety of shades I reccomend this and will continue to experiment.
