Green is my favorite eyeshadow shade, so of course I gravitated to this stunning palette from Melt. This is a difficult review to write because while I do enjoy my Smoke Sessions palette there are some major downfalls to this product.
Melt’s formula in this palette has a short shelf life, and its performance dramatically drops in a surprisingly short amount of time. When I first received my palette from Camera Ready Cosmetics I was in love. The color story was gorgeous. The shadows were soft and applied smoothly. I had waited a long time on this palette, as it was expensive and I had already bought Colourpop’s Just My Luck and some other dupes from Sydney Grace.
Now after less than 6 months the shimmer shades have turned dry and crumbley. I can still work with them, but they apply flaky and they need to be firmly buffed into the skin, or dampened in order to get them to perform.
The mattes are fine. Their texture has not changed. However, this is a palette with only two mattes and six shimmers. So more than half of the palette has aged like milk.
The staying power on these are not great. Even on a primed lid they started fading within three hours.
The pigmentation and blending, however, are fantastic. The only shade that applied sheer and needed building up was Blue Dream. Sour Diesel and Space Queen were opaque immediately with only a light touch of my brush in the pan.
Black Widow, Sweet Tooth and Blue Dream have aged the worst. Sour Diesel and Space are still chugging along just fine though.
This is also a very delicate palette. I do not recommend it for travel. The shades are softly pressed.
These are also very messy shadows and I suggest doing your eyes before your base. The fallout on all of these shades (except the sheerer Blue Dreams) was intense. Even tapping off the brush didn’t make the application neater. Space Queen had the most fallout, along with Sour Diesel, Grand Daddy and Black Widow.
Now for some positives: good pigmentation, they blend well, the color story is fun and the packaging is super nice. It comes in a solid green palette with white mj leaves scattered all over it, and on the inside there are mj leaves stamped into each shade. The mirror it comes with is also a good quality one.
This was my first Melt purchase. While I love the color story and packaging I feel the formula is overpriced. Honestly, I’d recommend getting the Colourpop Just My Luck palette. It has extremely close shades to Smoke Sessions, it wears better and it hasn’t started crumbling on me after only a few months. Sydney Grace also has some pretty close dupes, and they have excellent pigmentation, are very blendable and wear well.
I would hesitate to recommend Smoke Sessions. I don’t feel I got my money’s worth out of it. It was already expensive for an eight pan palette, but then add up all of the problems I had with it, and I feel it was not worth its pricetag.

So first and foremost, this palette isn’t for everyone. It was a very specific 420 theme and colors to match that not everyone would enjoy, shade names are: Gravity OG (yellow/gold base with gold glitter), Grand Daddy (metallic olive with gold undertones), Black Widow (Metallic Olive with green undertones), Sour Diesel (Matte dark green/brown), Space Queen (matte forest green), Mean Green (metallic dark green), Sweet Tooth (Metallic medium green) and Blue Dream (metallic mint green with a hint of super light blue).
They’re amazingly pigmented, very buttery soft and foil perfectly. My favorite shades are Sour Diesel and Black Widow(also 2 of my favorite strains), blended with a dusty rose in the crease and a metallic cream on the center halo, it’s such a pretty yet still grungy look. Blue Dream is a gorgeous mint color for spring, looks amazing on darker skin tones or as a funky inner corner highlight. It’s a palette that can be used all year round, it’s especially fun on 4/20 or any other special smoking occasion.
I have 1 complaint and 2 suggestions:
Complaint: the pigments are so buttery soft that I got a little breakage on Blue Dream and Sweet Tooth—I resolve it by repressing them, but it’s a common drawback for such soft shadows.
Suggestions: 1) Cannabis enthusiasts would be the first to tell you that cannabis is not limited to green and gold colors, there’s lovely purple options out there and a purple shade would have broken up the monotony of so many greens in one palette. 2) While the gold is a fun color, it’s a bit extreme for an inner corner highlight all the time, it would have been great to see an off-white shade with holographic green glitter shift, name her White Widow. I wouldn’t remove any of the shades, they’re all gorgeous, but for the price point, I would absolutely add a purple and inner corner highlight.
