This is my second favorite palette from ColourPop’s monochromatic series. I love blue eyeshadow and the Blue Moon has been a great addition to my makeup collection. There were only a couple of shades I ran into a problem with.
Blue eyeshadow can be difficult to formulate, but ColourPop has done a fantastic job here. The lighter shades Moonlight and Starry Eyed both showed up on me, even without a white base. Moonlite packs on the lid nicely and blends very well. Sometimes blue eyeshadow can blend out grey, but I didn’t have that problem with any of these shadows.
I did run into problems with Da Ba Dee, Fine China and Clued In. While they all blended nicely they also applied patchy, especially Da Ba Dee and Clued In. I was able to fix this by packing on a lot of shadow, but it took more effort than it did with Moonlite and Starry Eyed.
My favorite shades in here were Billie Jean, Moonlite, Starry Eyed and Lumi. While Fine China and Clued in needed heavy packing on the lid to overcome patchiness, they make excellent eyeliner. I either dampen them to make a wing, or I use them dry by smudging them along my lashline.
These also layer very well. Sometimes I use Lumi as an inner corner highlight, or I pat it over the other colors. Mad About U also looks nice patted over the lid.
There is a good variety of blues in here. They all look different, and provide good depth. They also match the color in the pan and wear great. With primer they lasted eight hours on my extremely oily lids.
The name rubbed off on my palette, but the palette is a nice slim case that’s easy to travel with. I also like that the case is magnetic so you can pop the pans out if you wanted to.
I’ve really enjoyed this palette. I took this one and the Just My Luck palette on a month long trip. I was so thrilled with it that I used it every day for two weeks straight.
I would definitely recommend the Blue Moon palette if you want to add some quality, affordable blues to your collection. I docked one star for the issues with Da Ba Dee, Fine China and Clued In though. They aren’t terrible shades by any means, but ColourPop knocked it out of the park with their pastel blue in here. I liked it even more than Shroud’s pastel blue in the Creepy Cute palette, and Shroud makes my absolute favorite pastel shadows on the market.
If you’re looking for long wearing, vibrant blues that offer good depth I recommend trying this palette out. I bought it when it first launched for 12 USD, but now you could probably get it on sale even cheaper because it’s no longer considered new.
