This shadow is beautiful. The name of the shade sounds like it would be more brown but it isn’t brown. I’d describe it as a cool grayish taupe, with just a little bit of silver micro glitter giving it a true satin finish. The staying power is great and I don’t even use primer. The texture is that of a creamy powder and very easy to blend. I usually use this as a one and done. It looks great with something darker in the crease too. It can be lightly applied and look semi sheer or layered to look darker.
Satin shadows seem to be pretty hard to find right now. Most are either matte, very shimmery bordering on glittery or straight up glitter bombs. This isn’t like those at all. It just gives a little extra sparkle.
As for the packaging, well that’s the only thing about the product that I don’t like. I guess that it must be designed for ease in making your own palette with other shades? I find it a little tricky to open just the lid without opening the part that holds the actual pan of shadow in the compact. It’s not a huge problem, but I do find it a bit annoying now and unexpected at first.
I noticed that this hasn’t been reviewed in over a year. I think that that’s a shame because this is a gorgeous shadow that must be overlooked by way too many people.
I think that almost everyone in the world who spends an evening before I shoot probably doesn’t care about the artistry or makeup of an ultra glittery shadows, its very close to the molds I just sketched out the swatch for the third panel.

Sable is a gorgeous neutral every-day eyeshadow that goes with almost everything. It’s a well pigmented greyish taupe with slight purple undertones, no glitter. Love it!

This is my first Laura Mercier product, and I love it!
Sable is a gorgeous softly shimmery(not glittery – I usually wear only matte shadows, and this is fine) mid-tone taupe grey that’s “idiot-proof-” sweep it on from lashline to just above crease, over a good primer, and you’ve got a simple but polished eye design that’ll look great alllll day.
It’s not cheap, but it IS worth it!
If you love neutrals, Buy. This.

This creates the perfect everyday, soft smokey eye! No need for a seperate lid and crease color, this does it both! This also makes a great transitional color between a darker crease color and the brow bone highlight. This goes on so smooth and seamlessly, I almost don’t have to blend the edges. It’s a no brainer. Perfect neutral shade to compliment light to medium skintones. I think every makeup artist should have this in their kit. I have to buy two now because of this! Get it, you won’t be dissapointed.

I love this eyeshadow and have been wearing it daily for a while now, which says a lot, because I have so many. It’s the perfect color – a pretty greyish taupe. It looks very polished. It’s enough to be noticed, but never looks overdone. I wear it alone over a beige base and sometimes use blackened plum in the crease. Overall, this is my favorite shadow and really enhances the eye without screaming ‘look at my makeup’.

I’ve been using this eyeshadow almost every day; I just love it. As many other reviewers said, it’s the perfect grey-taupe color. It also has just the right amount of shimmer. Being 53 years old, I tend to shy away from any kind of sparkle but this is really pretty. I usually wear it with LM’s matte Vanilla Nuts shadow swept over my entire eye area. Then I apply the Sable lightly along the upper and lower lash line for daytime. When I want that smoky effect I just apply more. I find using these two shadows together eliminates the need to use a base/primer.
It seems like Sable is the kind of color that is flattering on both warm and cool-toned skin. I was hesitant to try it because I’m warm-toned and this shadow’s definitely on the cool side, but I was pleasantly surprised.

When applied lightly, delivers a soft, sophisticated yet understated wash of lid colour. A heavier hand will ensure a more dramatic look, yet still without any harshness. A great standalone, everyday shadow.

I have just found my Sable eyeshadow. I had lost it and missed it as it was the perfect shade of greyed taupe, with a hint of violet, and a slight shimmer that was not sparkly.
The latest version of Sable at the cosmetic counter is not the same shade, LM has changed the color and texture to a sparkly taupe, without the hint of violet.

I am constantly borrowing this shadow from my sister. It is velvety smooth, minimally creasing, and the perfect taupe shade. Definitely an everyday shadow and such great quality. Definitely worth the price.

I love love love this eyeshadow. When I originally bought the Alice in Wonderland BOS I fell in love with Mushroom (which they just need to make in a single). I tried and tried and tried to find a dupe of Mushroom and this is the closest I could come. It is a bit pricy but you get a lot of product. Very silky smooth texture.
