   The Ruby Obsessions palette contains four matte shades [ballet pink, wine, raspberry, coral], one satin formula [orange/red], two creamy metallic shades [cool-toned red, muted copper], and two more toned-down frost formulas [light plum with violet shimmer, blackened plum with wine shimmer].

   I have made loads of looks using only this palette, so it can be a one-and-done palette, if that is something that is important to you. I’ve used every shade a handful of times and think that the shadow formulas are easy to work with and all wear well – I’ve not experienced any staining to date, which really surprised me since there is red dyes in most of the shades. The red satin and matte shadows feel dry and don’t swatch well, so if you check this palette out in a store you’ll be very underwhelmed – but every shade does perform really well when applied to the eyes. The formulas apply easily and do wear all day without fading or creasing – the dry-feeling formula is a general issue with eyeshadow shades which contain red eyes, so is just something to expect with every brand.

   The shimmery formulas are soft & creamy, so work best applied with a finger or silicone applicator, which is a downside for some. However the brand’s owner has always made it known publicly that her shimmer formulas work best with finger application, with every eyeshadow palette release, so why buy a palette which contains shades meant for finger application, if you know you don’t like using your fingers for applying makeup?

   I have, or have had, around a dozen of the Huda Beauty Obsession palettes and the Ruby one is one of my favourites; the shades are more wearable than you’d expect and can be either worked up or worked down, depending on how much of an impact you want to make. The size & price of the brand’s large eyeshadowq palettes is halved and the colour story cuts straight to the ‘fun’ stuff, rather than us having to pay for the same old neutral staples we already have.

   I’m surprised at the low rating this product has got.

   Firstly, the colour selection is interesting and if you like reds and purples, well, this is the palette for you. I do like that these shades have some interest to them instead of being ‘flat’ matte tones.

   Secondly, I find that the pigmentation is strong and is suitable for my olive skin. I have oily eyelids and usually apply concealer to my eyelid and then I will usually set it with a light dusting of translucent powder. The shades blend wonderfully on top of that and don’t muddy or disappear.

   There is some fall out, and I find that these pigments are so creamy they might almost crumble if you press too hard, however that is the formula that Huda intended for this palette but I can see why some people might be uncomfortable with using it as there can be fall out.

   The shimmery shades also don’t need a base in my opinion, they shine and glimmer all on their own without needing extra help.

   Overall very pleased.

   The colours are beautiful that’s for sure but the quality lacks. After only a few hours the shadow creased terribly-even after primer and powder. Very disappointed in this product.

   I was pining over the red based (cherry? I think) UD palette when it came out. However I already own 1.5 original nakeds (one is half used so I snatched another half off), as well as the naked heat. I saw this Huda one and the colors were a million times more vibrant on monitor! Smaller and cheaper too was a bonus since I already own hundreds of colors in palettes or singles. I was just interested in owning a red assortment. A rare item I didn’t own. I’d not heard of or tried Huda so after a quick scoping of her brand, I ordered this and the overachiever concealer right as that launched. (I’ll review that next)

   I am very picky with eyeshadow. Although I just turned 40, my eyelids are still very oily and I can’t even use most primers to discourage creasing (except UD & too faced — nars/mac paint pots/etc all the popular eye primers don’t work except those 2). I also have no time for weak color payoff, fallout, all the usual peeves. So a new brand of shadow was risky. At the time barely anyone if anyone on Sephora reviewed this particular ruby one. COLOR ME IMPRESSED. Totally on par with UD shadows which are HG to me (next in order: 2 faced, nars, and mac). Colors are truly jewel worthy. There’s just one boring neutral to lay down first (that’s a compliment not a criticism), with GORGEOUS mix of DEEEP ruby hued mattes and shimmers. The dark eggplant one that looks like it would make a glittery mess doesn’t and in fact when I use this palette I take along an angled liner brush and use it to wing out a cat eye alone as the only liner. It stays all day. Wow. I’m so so glad I took this risk. There is nice warm and cool color mix. The photos I’m posting are of the product and a look I did today. I can’t believe no one on here reviewed this yet!!!! Skip any red palette in the universe and get thee this palette!
