I picked this up in a special deal I saw on Free Stuff Finder for free and all I had to pay was the shipping of $4.50 This is a $20 palette. I’ve used some samples of Coastal Scents eye shadows before and was always quite impressed with them so I jumped at the chance to get this for free! Well, for the low price of shipping and handling that is. It is a fantastic deal for 20 eye colors that are all beautiful shades of nudes, plums, golds, taupes, and browns. This has a nice sturdy cardboard case with a magnetic close top similar to the Urban Decay Naked palettes but of course, much thinner cardboard and not quite as fancy packaging. There is no mirror beneath the lid and it does not come with a brush or other applicator. The colors here are well thought out and go well together so no matter what you mix and match everything works together. All of these shades look fabulous on my fair cool toned skin. This is a mix of mattes and shimmers but some of the shimmers are really a lot of work to get on and have to be built up. Some of these actually work better applying with a finger than with a brush. You have to just trial and error to see which application is best for each shadow. Some work better with makeup setting spray to aid the application. As always, I used a shadow primer base, a base color, the selected shadow shades, and finished with a setting spray to help the look last longer. There is a gorgeous gold in here that looks beautiful to add some light and glow to the lid but it really adds more shimmer and sparkle than color. The darkest color, a black is stunning and has a lot of sparkle, but it has the most fallout and fades easily. The shadows are a bit dry but they don’t kick up a lot of powder and they don’t go on too heavily. They have to be built up so they color payoff isn’t the best and this does take a little effort to work with them. The mattes are nice, some of the shimmers are nice, and some of the shimmers are not so nice and leave a lot of fallout and fade quickly. I have had this for about a month and used it nearly every day to try to get a good feel for it and have used every shadow in here for a look at least once. Many of them I have used several times and are already favorite colors. The formula is not as easy to work with as some comparably priced shadows and this does require more work than is really necessary. These aren’t terrible at all, but they are disappointing in comparison to Wet n Wild’s color icon palettes, Juvia’s Place, or Colour Pop shadows which are all similarly or even lower priced. This poor palette is not representative of the usual great quality of the shadows I’ve tried in the past from this brand. I’ve enjoyed it for the most part, and overall I like the colors and the eye looks I’ve created with it. I will use it, but it isn’t the best palette I have. It’s alright if you can find a deal on it like I did. It’s certainly worth the $5 I paid, but had I paid $20 I would have been disappointed.
