This thing is so bizarre. In the pan it looks like a medium lavendar/purple with a ton of gold shimmer and looks gorgeous. Swatched, looks amazing too. On the eyes, it looks like a darker muddy greyple. looks absolutely awful. for some reason the gold shimmer does not translate AT ALL on the eyelid. i tried it wet and it still did not translate – only deepended it to a darker greyple.
I’m so confused by this e/s, and why i see bloggers saying it’s a good addition to people’s collections – it’s absolutely not!
Note i have the older version of this, I noticed in 2018 they repackaged the single eyeshadows. I own this from before the repackage.
I saw someone say this works better on nyx white jumbo pencil, so i guess i’ll give that a try this weekend. if i can’t get it to work, this is going. Honestly even if it does work, i think it’s going to go, as it’s just so difficult to work with, and also have quite a bit of fallout as well.

Should have looked up reviews before buying this… It’s rather hard to work with. I bought it because it looked true-enough-to-pan on my much fairer-skinned friend; on my skin (NARS St Moritz, Cover FX N35, to be fair my eyelids are probably a touch darker than the rest of my skin) it looks like cheap muddy dust. That disappointed me, for the price, this is simply ridiculous.
I then applied it to my other eyelid with NYX Jumbo Pencil in Milk applied and blended, just to test it. It came up almost true to pan! Not quite as pretty, but doable. I will try this with other bases, I have low hopes for blending, but will trial it with various primers. It will look fine on its own, so I’m not that disappointed about that. I will use this up (I have hazel eyes so this sort of colour is good for most days) but certainly not repurchase – Urban Decay shadows are cheaper and better (I’m going for Tonic next).

First of all, the price. I get really irate at cosmetic companies and associated flunkies getting their pound of flesh. If I were to buy this from the Nars site in the US, it is $24.00. Except I am not able to, as I am not in the US. Nor am I in Canada, the UK, France, Taiwan or Korea (other countries that Nars sells to online) – all of whom offer the product for between US$28-US$31.
If I were to choose to buy it in Australia, it would currently cost me US$40. There are a lot of reviews commenting on the difficulty of working with this product, and its colour. I would have to agree with all of them, and say that if it had cost me $5, that would be fine. However, given the price, the quality of the product falls very, very short.
Now for the rest of my review. The colour as a shadow on me looked terrible – it is the first purple shadow that I have not been able to wear. But then, one day I finally worked out how to use it.
Except it isn’t using it as a shadow. I was rummaging through my cosmetic drawer that holds all the things that I don’t use very often and found a product that turns eyeshadow into liner and thought ‘why not’. As an eyeliner, Strada worked – both above and below the eyes.
But it got better. I still had some colour on the applicator so used it on my brows. And it was perfect!
Turns out, with the use of the shadow-to-liner product, it turned into the most perfect bronzey colour. I have hazel eyes, and years ago I had read that bronze is a good colour to use on the brows as it picks up the gold flecks in the eyes, but I had never been able to get it work until now.

I like this eyeshadow. I rarely wear it however. I fell in love with it in Sephora and bought it without realizing how hard it is to wear. It looks good on it’s own as a bold lid color and blended a little into the crease (although blending it is not very easy, and if I over blend it, it turns into a bit of a muddy black-eye color). It is hard to work with, which is why I only wear it on its own. It makes a very interesting, almost smokey looking purple eye with gold shimmers. The gold only shows up if I pack the color on my lid instead of swiping it on with the brush. I put a bit of gold eye liner on the inner part of my bottom lash line and it looks amazing. It brings out the gold in the shadow.
This is definitely not an every day shade but is great for when I want to do a little bit of a bolder look without using a super bright color. I probably won’t repurchase this as I doubt I’ll ever use the entire thing up.

It’s a nice color, but extremely hard to work with. I found it can only look good on me (NC15) when layering over a dark color base or on my bottom lash line. This kind of layering doesn’t work for me about 98% of the time and for something I can only use on my bottom lash line, it’s really expensive. However, it’s the best lower lash line color I ever have, so I gave it a 4.

I love NARS and I craved this color after seeing it at Sephora. I made a second trip back to Sephora just to purchase it. It looked yummy in the display, but this is just too difficult to work with. It looks a beautiful lavender with gold shimmer in the pot, but when applied on my DDD skin it looked a muddy, ruddy, greyish mess. There is just no way to get this color to look like it does in the pot. When applied wet it looks gold, when applied dry it looks grey. This will be going back to Sephora tomorrow.

I love NARS products, but I find this particular eyeshadow to be very difficult to work with. You MUST use an eye primer underneath this, but not just any one. I tried both Tarte and UD before trying the NARS primer, and the NARS was the only one that would actually hold this and keep it fairly true to swatch color. During application, sweeping it on the lid will quickly create that muddy color everyone has been mentioning. I found that patting it on kept the purple and gold colors more vibrant and less grey. I have found that this works best as a primary color with blending only to avoid harsh lines on the top and corner. Where you blend it greys out. No fallout noticed, though. I’ve been wearing it for 5.5hrs now, and just checked. Good to go! Beautiful color when you get it right, but there are dupes out there for much less so I probably wouldn’t repeat this one.

So disappointed by this! Swatched and in the container it is a beautiful purple with gold shimmer. The SA told me that it must be patted on gently with a med stiff brush over a primer to get the golden effect. I have done this, and yet you still cannot see the gold in it, it is just a muddy gray-purple color. Not worth the price.

I totally agree with the other reviews on this product, it is hard to work with. You have to use an eye primer underneath it, I use a MAC paint pot under mine, it is hideous to blend, and the fallout is unreal!! I have not tried to use it alone as yet but I think it may be better applied on its own and patted on rather than swept on, I used it with another colour and used this in the corner and socket of my eye and then tried to blend it, what a mistake that was!! It doesn’t blend well at all, it is the worst eyeshadow I have ever tried to blend, I will give it a go on it’s own next time I try it. The colour is not as it swatches, when I swatched it, it was a lovely lilac colour with gold shot through it and I thought it was going to be amazing, but it does not come out like that on the eye, it can look a murky grey colour in some lights and not the beautiful lilac with gold I thought it was going to be 🙁 I would not buy this again, it is expensive at £17 for a single eyeshadow and does not look anything like I thought it would or as it swatched. Maybe when I try it on it’s own I will like it, if I do I will come back and let you know, but for now all I can say is, don’t bother! I thought this was going to be something I raved about and how wrong i was 🙁 big thumbs down NARS

Strada is powerfully sophisticated and will make you so as well. It is not for the novice. It is a strongly artful colour which should be appreciated like a diamond solitare and not applied as an element in a trio of traditional shadow application. It is a flaming accent that, I can only speak for blue eyes, will make your eyes look hypnotic. I apply it with a wet “q-tip” brush from Trish McEvoy on the lid as a wide liner, winged out. Then line a black L’Oreal Hip pencil over it (pencil is best, a gel or liquid would place this in Las Vegas category). Nothing else on the lid! The cost per wear is irrelevant; this is not an everyday go to taupe. It is a treasure to use when you need its power. BTW, as flambouyant as it appears in the pan, it is very wearable (the grey undertones I suppose) and it could definately be pulled off in the day with the right balance of blush and lip colour. Remember think “artful” application which means creative and with restraint. I would not pull in other colours.
