The black primal colors shadow is my HG. If you’re looking for the deepest, darkest matte black shadow that can be used as a liner in a pinch, look no further. I bought it at Ulta and use it almost everyday to line my upper lid (I use MAC 263 brush for that, also HG). It is incredibly pigmented and lasts all day over shadow or primer. I’m picky about eye makeup and do not line my lids with any other shadow, if I can help it. The price is reasonable too, so it’s win-win no matter which way you look at it. Love.

“OMGOMGOMG IT’S SOOOO BLACK I NEED THIS IN MY LIFE”
But really, that was my internal reaction when I swatched PC01 Hot Black in store. This is the blackest freaking black eyeshadow you will ever find, trust me! This is darker than some of my black eyeliners – no joke. Just swatch your finger once and it will look like you’ve dipped your finger in oil or something because that will be pure black pigment on your finger, right there. I find it works best for setting eyeliner or even cleaning up a messy wing if you’re like me and you don’t want risk fudging up your eye makeup because your hand is always unsteady at the worst of moments – this is much easier to gently wipe off and try again than gel. Am I allowed to admit that I sometimes use this on its own as an eyeliner? Well, who cares. I make my own rules.
Though the website states that these are not meant for usage in the eye area, I haven’t experienced any problems yet. Unless you have sensitive eyes, I probably wouldn’t worry too much about this.
Please. Get this. You need it in your life.

These really caught my eye because of the bright colors. But two things were holding me back from buying: 1) I hadn’t heard great reviews and 2) says not for use in eye area. The 2nd thing didn’t bother me too much because quite a few bright or neon colors say this because of ingredients not tested in the US but are fine in other places (ex Sleek Acid palette in UK).
I figured I could use a white base for any pigment issues. But that doesn’t quite cut it. On top of not having great pigmentation (in comparison to the UD electric palette) they are patchy. I can’t get them to look even.
I bought the red, pink, yellow, and orange. The red shows up more pink and gets patchy on the lid. The orange was very patchy but blended it through my crease and it worked. The yellow is not very pigmented. The pink is probably the best out of the four but nothing to write home about.
Overall, I would say these are a pass!

MIRROR MIRROR ON THE WALL. WHOSE GOT THE BLACKEST MATTE DRUGSTORE EYE SHADOW OF THEM ALL.
Friday night I went to my local beauty supply store just to browse (wink, wink) and my eyes stumbled upon the NYX Cosmetic Stand. The owner now carry NYX Primal Color Pressed Pigments.. My eyes immediately zeroed in on the color called “Hot Black”. I lifted the lid cover covering the sample called “Hot Black” to swatch it. I was blown away!! I purchased 2. I have been comparing this brand to the other “high end” brands that I have- which I shall not mention and I have to say, NYX – for me is “on point”. The staying power is crazy!! I wore it that night, Saturday night and Sunday night- it gave me a excuse to get all dolled up – ok!! As usual I prime my lids with UD e/s primer and I applied a light coating of NYX jumbo pencil in black. I let the primer and base “cook” on my eye lids- as usual and then I applied the pigment.. Guys, I wore 3 different variations of a smokey eye I was so impressed. I decided to wear it again to work and so far so good.
To conclude, if you want a inexpensive matte black pigment/eye shadow that’s black and last and is really inexpensive, pick up NYX “Hot Black”. You will not regret it at all.

Very intense, but needs a base. I got it in the yellow, pink, and blue. Very blendable.
