   I have this in Nudie Pic: Fair. I have porcelain skin and this looks just awful on me. The three colors are a vanilla creme, light beige and a taupe gray. The gray is too dark and makes me look like I am bruised. The formula is terrible. It fades, creases and wears off in less than 5 hours, even with primer. A similar toned eye shadow quad I like better is the Physicians Formula Healthy Eyeshadow in Canyon Classic, which lasts all day on me.

   Let me start out by saying that I have always liked Smashbox eyeshadows, and most of their products in general. I have been a big fan of the previous eyeshadow trio palettes and like these new ones as well. I purchased a LE set of 10 of them that Sephora had after Christmas for $165. The 10 in this set were also available as single palette purchases, I think there are 16 total colors available, but sell individually for $22. I liked the variety that came in the set and have gone back and purchased 4 additional colors so that I now have 14/16 available.

   Of them all, my go to has become the Nude Fair, which is a cool tone nude that wears extremely well for a quick neutral eye that stays all day, I use primer. Don’t get me wrong, they are all gorgeous, but when I am running short on time or am going into a refinery/plant and want to keep my make-up simple, this fair nude trio is a no-brainer for me.

   The formulation between the older trios and these new ones seems to be the same, the color mixes are different, as are the names of the trios. The biggest difference that I have noticed is that the new ones are larger in diameter and flatter in shape, the older ones were smaller and thicker. I think they both hold close to the same amount of product, just slightly different packaging.

   Not all the Photo Edit Trios are as disappointing as the purple one reviewed by noBSbeauty. I purchased Night Shoot, which is a cool-toned neutral trio and I’m delighted with it. I wrote a review under a separate heading for that particular trio but wanted to repost it here as well as this seems to be a listing for the trios in general. And an FYI – the photo at the top of the page is for the OLD trios, not the new ones which have a larger pan of the lightest shade in the trio on the left side and then 2 smaller ones on the right.

   Smashbox recently released a whole bunch of new eyeshadow trios called “Photo Edit”. Most of them seem to be pretty mediocre performers but Night Shoot is a dandy little set to have. The three shades are “Vanilla” (the name is self-explanatory), Moon Me (a warm silvery taupe that is gorgeous) and Smoke Break (a nice taupe-y brown that isn’t too dark or red-toned). It’s a really practical, wearable cooler toned palette and the shadows all perform really well. I did experience some fallout the first time I applied Vanilla but a bit of care and not overloading the brush (better to apply in thin layers if you want full coverage of eyelids veins/discolouration) takes care of that problem. Everything else about this trio is good and a nice counter-balance to those overwhelming palettes of 15+ eyeshadows loaded with glaringly bright “party” colours that leave me staring at them wondering “where the heck do I start?”. I purchased this on “Seniors Day” at SDM so got it for 20% off, which is a nice “bonus” but this beauty is worth full price in any case. I like the packaging – made to look like a camera lens – and you get a goodly amount of product for the price ($26, I think, in Canada, if you don’t qualify for a discount).

   Edited to add: I just picked up the Showmance trio and love it. We are heading into Spring and this happens to be the perfect autumn-y assortment of shades but that won’t stop me wearing it because these are the sorts of colours I just love…. Hold My Gold (the largest pan) is a beige-y gold with a strong sheen; Borrowed Bling is a coppery mid-brown, also with a sheen (it’s a shade for which I’ve quite a few dupes already in my stash) and Hundo (hunh? does that name mean something that I’m missing?) is a dark olive green with black or dark brown undertones and, again, a really nice sheen. I did experience a bit of fallout using Hundo (I think it was mostly the fault of the brush I was using) but it cleaned up without leaving so much as a trace or smear. It’s a shade that also works really nicely as a liner if you want that diffused, smoky look. I’ve only had this trio for 2 days but I really, really like it. I’m meeting a friend for lunch today and I’m wearing it and love the results.

   The Smashbox Cosmetics Photo Edit Eye Shadow Trio has what could be a traveler’s favorite convenient packaging- tiny and thin- could be easy to throw into a bag and go. Unfortunately the eyeshadow is severely lacking in the pigment department. The only shade in the #repost trio that has any pigment is the darkest color, but that shade has an extreme amount of fallout, to the point where it is difficult to use it without leaving little sparkles everywhere else. Unless you are going for the no-makeup-makeup look this trio is disappointing and $22 is truly too much to ask for when the shadows barely provide any pigment at all.
