   This is a very good creme shadow that’s easy to work with and stays put. But one issue with it is that it’s essentially the same thing as Drew Barrymore’s FLOWER Beauty Color Play Creme Eyeshadow, but you pay five or six times more money for it. Even the packaging is similar, but with Dolce & Gabanna, you get less product.

   I’m not one of those people who thinks a cheap WalMart knockoff is just as good as a quality product. I know the differences. But in this case, the FLOWER shadow really IS just as good and it’s a better deal.

   Another big issue – and I must have gotten my wires crossed while shopping or I wouldn’t have purchased – is that it’s NOT cruelty free.

   I bought the Dahlia shade. That’s the upside of Dolce & Gabbana as compared to FLOWER, there’s more colors available. If you need a certain color, you can find it. (Drew! More colors, please!)

   It looks very purple in the container, but it goes on kind of neutral, smokey greyish plum. Good pigmentation, and you can build it up where you want, sheer it out where you want. Nice shimmer, subtle and not too glitzy. Doesn’t settle in the creases or dust your cheekbones with glitter, heavy glass pot, lid stays on, good stuff. In other words, almost identical to Drew’s Orchid-ing Around, only with darker pigmentation, and a tiny bit less shimmer.

   I do wish Ms. Barrymore would come out with a wider range of colors, or that Besame would make some vintage-style creme shadows available. This one is quite nice, but it’s overpriced for what you actually get and the animal testing thing is a deal breaker for me.

   Love cream eye shadow and have tried several brands from low price 24 Hour Color Tatoo to high end Dior. I purchased Cocoa, nice texture, can be applied light for a little color and can be applied heavier for crease depth. I have not decided the best way to get this out of the jar as has been mentioned, the opening is small. The plus side to this is less air surface to dry out faster. I have used a brush and then a sponge and/or fingers to blend. Use your finger to just tap on the color and work quickly to blend it. Their instructions say to achieve more color wet your finger or brush. Color seems to last about 8 to 10 hours for me. Powders fade on me in 4 hours or less. The finish is soft and for a matte color, this is not dry and chalky like Dior Fusion Mono Matte. My only complaint on cream eye shadows is of course, the drying out of the product. I have tried placing some plastic wrap over the shadow and using a brush to seal. Will see if that helps.

   I ordered two of these during the VIBR sale in Gold Dust & Dahlia. So let’s start with the easy stuff here first. The packaging is super pretty and elegant BUT the bottom is heavy glass, the top is gold colored plastic. I suppose only time will tell if they dry out, but it irks me that I can’t get a tight “seal” on these babies without worrying I’m going to break the lid. Secondly, let’s talk about wear. Literally EVERYTHING creases on me (with primer or without), so factor that in. These migrated within about 4-5 hours which is somewhat typical for me even though I was hoping for more. The colors I bought are no doubt gorgeous. Gold Dust is a pinky gold with just the right amount of shimmer which can be sheered out or built up, but Dahlia – she is the star of the show. Dahlia is a complicated aubergine with shimmer which can be blended in a multitude of ways. So far I have used them together, dry with a Bobbi Brown cream shadow brush and/or my fingers and it really creates a pretty eye. So here’s really at the end of the day my issue with these. They are $36 each. $72 gets you 2 (two) colors. SEVENTY-TWO DOLLARS. Geez. Even Tom Ford gives ya 4 for about that price. If you can’t stop your lemming (which I get!), my advice is to go for one of the darker colors. I think they end up being more versatile. 🙂
