The Paperlight shadows were part of Shiseido’s Spring 2018 collection, and were designed to be matte and sheer. I got GY908 (Usuzumi Beige Gray), which is not at all beige but is the perfect light grey–not too yellow, not too brown, not too green. It reads on the lid as a beautiful, sheer cement grey, although it can be built up to a slightly deeper grey. The formula is lovely–creamy, easy to pick up with a finger or brush, and easy to apply evenly. The wear, as I’ve found to be the case with all Shiseido’s cream shadows, wears well without a trace of creasing or fading, yet is easy to remove. And although this formula is packaged in a plastic pot, I’ve noticed no change in consistency since I bought it in February. I’m glad that I snapped this up because it’s so versatile–changing your liner color (or even mascara formula or shade) changes the look dramatically because it’s such a perfectly neutral backdrop. It showcases bolder colors, like burgundy or green, beautifully. Also, adding a bit more at the lashline or crease gives a more intense look. It amazes me that it’s so difficult to find a truly neutral grey shadow–so many have a pronounced undertone that undermines the basic shade (I’m looking at you, Bobbi Brown). It’s not cheap at $25, but it is worth the price for the quality, shade, and versatility.
