   “Nocturnal Cat Eyes to Hypnotise” comes in four colors. Each is a set including one shimmer shadow and one corresponding eye pencil. I ordered the plum set, “On the Prowl.”

   I bought this to replace an old Bobbi Brown Black Plum Shimmer Wash shadow that was several years old. It was a casualty in my last purge. This is not a dupe, but I prefer On the Prowl for the texture. It clings better, has less fall, and is less sheer. I apply over NARS Smudge Proof Eye Base. This shadow is your basic smoky plum. On the website it is described as “aubergine,” but there are no red undertones to this; it’s more like a violet charcoal on me. The shimmer is apparent but not out of control.

   It was a pleasant surprise to find a mirror in the lid of the shadow single. This does make it seem more travel-friendly. In the tutorial Tilbury applies with her finger and promotes it as something convenient you can take and apply quickly on-the-go. You can use your finger, but I also found that it applies just as easily with a brush, which is my preferred method. The tutorial makes this shadow look a lot more exciting by using a black light to make it sparkle. On my lids in normal light, applied less liberally, it’s much less of a fireworks display, which is fine because the shadow is actually appropriate for day or night. (I often wear a smoky eye during the day.)

   The Supernova Rock N Kohl pencil is a deep midnight purple with wine flecks. I wish it were a full size pencil but these are shorter than the standard size. I sigh knowing I’ll use it up quickly.

   $39 for the set. It is expensive, like most of the products in this line, so unfortunately I won’t be able to buy all four shades. However, I’m happy with my purchase.
