I bought this for £56. First, I felt bit curious, many reviews from beauty bloggers said this is one of the best eyeshadow ever but yeah I think they were right. I love this palette. Its color and texture. But I really hate the price. Over priced. I don’t think to repurchase it again.

I love hourglass and thought long and hard before I bought this, because the reviews were so mixed, so lets do pros and cons. I bought ‘atmosphere’ because I wanted some pretty cool mattes.
Pros: great colours. The pink is very clean and fresh, and the darker colours go on easily.
Cons: they don’t layer. You just put the colour you want where you want it- once you put a light colur down any darker colour over the top just won’t grab.
Pros: you don’t exactly need to layer. They blend beautifully once they are on, so just sti j them where you like with a flat synthetic concealer brush or sponge tip ( basically anything other than a natural hair brush ) then blend with a soft brush.
Cons: they fall out if you use a natural hair brush, don’t try.
Pros: they stay on.no creasing, no oiliness. All day. You can still use a primer underneath, but really, they stay.
Cons: they feel sheer, depending on the colour
Pros: they make your eyelid look younger because of their texture
My summary? A great palette for someone who knows exactly how she wants her makeup before she starts. They feel sheer, and don’t layer over each other so you want to put a great base, then just put the colours on exactly where you want them and then blend. This makes them super quick to use- it’s cut my makeup time in half because the blending is so quick with these. Not so good if you like to layer and change it as you go- if you start with a light lid, it will stay light. Photographs like a dream. I like it but not for everybody.

Walk into the mall, take a left, go straight, take a right, left, straight and your last right…where are we folks? In my local Sephora. Some might call this heaven. Husbands/Boyfriends/Partners might call it hell. What ever you call it, it’s my guilty pleasure. My life-long love of coupon-ing and love of never ever paying full price for anything really goes to waste when I enter Sephora. I step inside and see the full display of Hourglass products and it takes my breath away…let’s just get to the review…
Disclaimer: Okay everyone…so I’m going to try realllly hard to write an honest and unbiased review on this SEVENTY DOLLAR palette which killed me when I bought it…let us get started!!
Pro’s:
1)Selection: I know a lot of these ‘Modernist eyeshadows’ seem boring initially, but the more I thought about the colour selection, the more I liked it. Yes, you don’t have crazy pinks, red, yellows or what have you but what you do have are wonderfully matched palettes. I have a problem with a lot of palettes because I’m often left saying “oh..I wish this palette had THAT colour, and THAT pallete had this other colour versus this colour”; I’m just never fully satisfied with what is offered. So, back to my initial point..the selection on these palettes is right on point with what you want (do you want warm neutrals? plums? olive tones?) Besides if you want a hot pink shadow, you should just step over to UD; hourglass really does neutral/timeless colours well.
2)Packaging: If anyone here tells me that hourglass has ugly packaging..then..well..i might drop dead. The wavy eyeshadows are enveloped in a beautiful grey-pewter-maroon-brown metallic, heavy-duty, lux container. It’s sturdy; sturdy enough to be thrown at a bandit and knock them out (ps: I don’t condone violence). The packaging is one of those gems which you pull out when your with co-workers, girlfriends, etc and you want to hear some “ohhs” and “ahhs”; it might sound vain to say that, but it’s the truth. It’s not like a WNW (pps: ILOVE wnw) pressed powder for example, where you just open the top in you purse, swirl your brush in and apply without ever taking the product out..no no this product needs to be seen.
3)Colours: When I swatched the palette “infinity” in stores I wept. This is the only palette I bought and I’ll let you know why in a bit. The palette is made up of the perfect combinations:
Firstly, you have a creamy white colour that leans a bit on the beige side. I’ve never met a colour this light that goes on this smoothly and without any patchy-ness. Great for under the eyebrows, in the inner tearducts and could also be taken down towards the lips and upper cheekbones for highlighting. PS: This reminds me A LOT of reserve you cabana by WNW.
Second: A creamy pink-brown that just screams “wear me!!” This would look gorgeous on all eyelids, any time of the day, and for any event. It’s a great colour to have when you don’t have a lot of time but need something on the lids. I don’t know if anyone else can relate to me, but this is the type of colour you want to put allll over your face. The type of colour that makes you sound like you in an Herbal Essence commercial.
Third: Creamy. Metallic browny-grey purple. Probably my least favourite in the entire palette as it just seems out of place. Great for the centre of the lids as it really adds pop. Great for you party gals and guys who like a palette to transform from day to night.
Fourth: Standard brown. Cool toned. Not too exciting.
Fifth: A dark chocolate brown. The type of colour that really adds sex-appeal to any eye look. This can be used as an eyeliner too. Probably the easiest colour to work with in the whole palette (easiest meaning that it’s the best quality).
Cons:
Price: I mean..come on. $70 CAD. That’s ridiculous. Are they worth the price? Heck NO!!! That’s like 7 drinks at the bar. Or a date night. Or a sh*t-tone of drugstore makeup. I mean..if you bought all 7 palettes, it would run you about $500. Maybe some would be okay with that, but this chiquitita is not.
Originality: Unfortunately there is none. I know I was mentioning earlier that hourglass creates classic colours, but you can be classic and innovative all at once. I love this palette, but my TF$ Orchid Haze palette is practically identical. Also, the formula isn’t as great as I thought. The colours swatch realllly well, but you need a primer or something on the eye lids to get the colours to stick. I tried the colours wet and it didn’t work well. I had to put some baby oil on my eyelids to get the colours to really stick. They blend out beautifully, but if you want high pigmentation this isn’t the product for you. For a novice like myself, it’s enough, but for someone who wants more omph steer clear.
Overall: Ladies, we all deserve a treat. If you’re in the market for a lux eye-shadow (and lets be honest, when are we not?) then go out and get. We all deserve a little luxury right?
