I had been experiencing a number of recent disappointments with Bobbi Brown as my staple products seem to be discontinued one after the other, but the (relatively) recent release of the Forest shade of metallic eyeshadow somewhat restored my faith in the brand.
I had gone into the store just wanting to pick up any dark eyeshadow that could be used for an ultra-smokey look (there aren’t that many of these shades anymore in the Bobbi Brown ranges), and Forest in the pan hadn’t immediately struck me as it looked more like an antique bronze.
The shade is described on their website as a “deep olive green” but, on application on my eyelids, the black undertone is the dominant colour, with with micro gold flecks and bronzey olive showing up where it catches the light.
I have been used to using two eyeshadows per look for a while now: one for the main lid, and a darker contrast shade in the outer-V. But the complexity of Forest means that one shade works great on its own, as it looks black in the creases where light doesn’t catch.
The texture is a bit dryer than the super-buttery Balsam, but there isn’t a lot of fallout during application and, despite my worries, the gold flecks stay put all day and night (over a primer). Am keeping my fingers crossed that Forest stays in the Metallic Eyeshadow range for a while, as it won’t take me long to finish a single pan at this rate.

Lost this (and my entire makeup bag for that matter – you can imagine the trauma) while traveling on business. This is one of the items I bought right away when I went back to the BB counter to re-stock my makeup. It is beautiful, one of her best. Can’t believe I waited to lose it to review it. Stunning and worth every penny.

I was recommended this product by a MUA in Sephora as I was looking for a dark eye colour for the purpose to do the smokey eye look. She grabbed this shade and showed me how to use it.
The colour is described on Bobbi Brown’s website as deep olive green. It is very very pigmented, so a little lasts a looong way. It is a nice warm olive green with golden flecks, the olive green looks very classy, so to say, well..at least on my medium tan skin tone+dark eyes.
The colour looks really nice to make a warm smokey eye look. However, since I don’t wear the smokey eye look every day so I use this shade as an eyeliner. I apply it with a damp eyeliner brush to line my lids. It stays all day long! The staying power is incredible, because even after I splashed my face with cold water sometime during the day, the colour on my lids stayed on!
I would buy this product in a different shade because this eyeshadow probably would last very long.

WOW! The most complex colour I own in eyeshadow form! On my NC 43 skin tone this one pulls a dark greenish dark taupe with golden undertones with shimmer! It was love at first swatch! I didn’t think it would suit my skin much but when I tried it on, I realised the gold blended in so well to make my eyes look warm and smokey. It feels smooth and silky and is uber pigmented. No fallout so far and with some black gel liner, this makes for a lovely smokey eye! Lasting power is terrific..and all in all, i’m rating this shadow a 5 on 5!

Oh, man. I just had THE BEST smoky eye done with all of three products (excluding mascara). I have deep set eyes, so regular smoky eyes (read: dark color in the crease, etc.) just serves to make my eyes recede even more.
However, I *finally* had a chance to have the MUA at the BB counter at Saks Boston (Chantal- SHE IS AMAZING-go see her!) do my face with a party look.
She used BB Metallic Long Wear Cream Shadow in Goldstone as an all over wash on the lid (applied with her finger), then she lined my upper lids with a thick line of BB Gel Eyeliner in Black (I was shocked at the thick line- it’s something I would never wear on its own, but I have seen this on others) and then she took Forest Metallic e/s and blended it with the eyeliner halfway up my lids, so that it was gradated into the Goldstone e/s. This left my crease with only a wash of color and made my eyes seem less deep set.
The *color* this left on my eyes was AMAZING. It made my medium brown eyes pop! (Did I mention there was NO primer used? Apparently “long wearing” is the right name for Goldstone, as nothing on my somewhat oily lids budged, creased or otherwise migrated.) Both Goldstone and Forest have a gold, finely milled glitter that is a “grown up” glitter.
Given the amazing job she did on my eyes and the rest of the superb MU, I left feeling like a million bucks, and with Forest on its way home with me.
It’s no wonder Forest has a 5-star rating.

I only use shades with any glitteryness to line under my eyes. I picked this technique up from a Trish McEvoy book. I’ve used dark glittery shades from BB (shimmer wash Black Plum), LM (Pewter), Stila (Pewter also) and some disc’d Stephane Marais shades. They all flake under the eye. This is the only one I’ve ever used that doesn’t flake excessively, at least no more than matte shades. My method for underlining eyes is to wet line on top with a dark shade, then dry line over it to soften and use what’s left to line the lower lash line. I go over that line with a glittery shade. BB Forest looks beautiful and as one reviewer said, mysterious over BB Caviar or Smoke and I’ve also worn it over Cargo Persia (disc’d long ago) which is a very dark purple. Sounds weird, but looks great.

This is probably the prettiest and most flattering eyeshadow I own (and I own a lot!). In the pan, it looks like a very shimmery deep grayish-greenish-taupish color. As someone mentioned below, it’s very complex! When applied, the shimmer is barely visible and the shadow is buildable, from a dark, metallic wash to an opaque intensity. It is absolutely gorgeous and doesn’t budge over my UDPP. I expected a ton of fallout from such a dark color, so I’m both surprised and delighted with yet another Bobbi Brown product!

Forest is a very complex shadow. In the pan it looks like a chocolate brown with a liberal dose of gold shimmer. Once applied all over the lid and blended well, its undertone of moss green shows through. GORGEOUS. I use Forest as a shadow, for a stunning smokey eye, and as a liner. I like to think that it gives my eyes mysterious quality. Unlike many dark shadows, Forest does not fall out all over my undereye area giving me the look of a raccoon. The shadow just stays put without creasing or fading.

This eyeshadow has been in my collection since last winter but I have forgotten to review. It is truly one of my favorites and should be a good color for almost everyone. Very blendable and buildable for an end result of deep dark green. Lovely.

I love the shade of this shadow. It is a dark, smoky green that works fabulously with my complexion. I have med./light skin with pink undertones, hazel eyes, and am a brunette. I can use this shadow to line my eyes or to create a smoky eye without it screaming “green!” It is a lovely alternative to black or dark brown, if you’d like something a little different. A must have for any e/s arsenal. I gave it 4 lippies for price – but other than that, this is an HG e/s.
