I don’t know if this is is a new product or not but it’s (almost) exactly what I’ve been looking for. I’m not a fan of powder shadows, and greasy cream pot-type shadows are messy and tend to crease like crazy on me. I wanted an easy, muted but not dull, not-too-bright, cream eyeshadow, with no glitter, and this $8 shadow fits the bill.
Ulta’s website states that this product is “Primer Infused” “Waterproof” and infused with “Evening Primrose & Safflower Oils – contain Vitamin C & Omega 6 fatty acids that are known to soothe…” as well as a bunch of other claims. I don’t know about all that, but I can say that this is a very buttery feeling (but not greasy), liquid/cream shadow that dries quickly and seems to stay put.
The applicator is a rather large, short trangular doe foot sponge wand, which makes it super easy to apply at first but subsequent uses resulted in too much product loading onto it, much like an old-school mascara wand (so you have to wipe the wand at the rim, and/or use your fingers or a brush to distribute anyway). I think this would be better with just a regular doe foot applicator.
I sort of regretted using the applicator instead of swiping this on my hand first, but I figure it’s not any less hygenic than reusing a mascara wand. I do realize this is something I’ll have to replace sooner than powder shadows but…eh. I now just apply it with a small flatish brush.
I purchased this in the shade Game Over. They call it “pale nude”, which isn’t very descriptive. It’s a medium beige/ warm pink/peach color ( Actually I love this color, it’s peach pink but all the beige/tan tones mute it down) . As of writing this, there are 6 shades: Bubblegum (“pale rosey pink”), Game Over, Throwback (“cool nude lilac”), Vintage Beauty (“grey beige”), 1980 Classic (“muted brick” ), Scrunchie (“muted purple”). Besides the color I bought, these seem either too dark or too cool toned/grey for my personal taste (with the exception of the bubblegum pink… maybe).
I wish it had just a tiny touch of luminescence to it– it’s fairly matte, true to the name, but doesn’t have so much of that dry, flat, “powdery”, cream-to-powder look. It’s creamy enough that, in order to get a smoked effect, i can blend my (soft) eyeliner into it with the eyeliner’s rubber blender, and not need the aid of an additional brush or mid-range eyeliner in between. I find it easy to blend/diffuse into the rest of my lids so long as I do it within a minute or two.
ETA: I have now been using this for a month and a half. Aside from the gloppy-ish applicator, I love this…long-wearing and beautiful color.
