This is for Bobbi Brown eyeshadow in Bone. Lovely packaging, and product picks up on the brush and applies, but I find it lacks pigment and it is very light on. I find myself needing to apply it several times over to show up at all. I imagine that it may have to do with the fact that Bobbi Brown eyeshadow powders are very fine, and perhaps it’s less of an issue in a darker colour. For the purposes of a lighter shadow to highlight it’s unfortunately not done the job.

While this is a cool-toned color, to my eye this name is a misnomer since the color is far more brown than gray. It looks muddy in the pan as well as on my NC20 coloring. I’ll give it a few more tries to see if there are better ways to wear it (currently using as a wash with BB Ivory) but I don’t foresee reaching for this often.

I’m sure this is one of their bestsellers by now, since Kate Middleton used it for her wedding makeup. It’s one of those taupe/grey shadows with brown and purple undertones. Extremely easy to wear and blend with the right brush and primer. If you have issues with BB shadows not blending, then you’re probably not using the layering or base method. It’s why she always puts down an ivory shade all over the lid before anything else.If you use these lightly till you get the depth you want then they will always work. Some of her shadows might appear to be basic and nothing special, but it’s easy and simple. You can get a chic look in minutes.

Bobbi Brown Eyeshadow in Slate is one of my “go-to” colors for contouring the crease of my eyes. When paired with a light dusting of White Eyeshadow (lid, below the crease), Graphite Shimmer Gel Ink (dark grey, with a bit of shimmer — hence the name), and the highlighter of your choice, it provides a beautiful natural, understated, yet polished look. For extra shimmer and shine, you can add Rockstar Metallic Eyeshadow (medium metallic grey) over “White.” It also pairs well with Sand Dollar (silver shimmer greyish taupe). I suspect it could be combined with any number of eyeshadows.
I wear this quite often to work, and really anytime I want to look like myself, but better. Today, I have had it on for over twelve (12) hours (over NARS Pro-Prime Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base). It is still crease-free.
Admittedly, no, it is not the most “exciting” eyeshadow I own. (It is a mix of taupe brown and gray.) However, I have worn this for several years (sometimes nearly every day) and always seem to come back to it. I have also used it to fill in my eyebrows.
At $22.00 USD for 2.5 g, it is by no means “cheap.” Still, I feel the price is reasonable. After several years, I am still using the first one I purchased — and still have not “hit pan.” The texture is “baby bear”: Just right, neither too hard, nor too soft. I use a fairly light hand when applying it, building color as necessary. I have never had a problem with fall out.

This is a great shadow that’s easy to overlook. It’s a plain matte grayish-taupe-brown (all of those come out on my NW15 skin) that doesn’t stand out. That said, this is one that I reach for over and over again. Why do I love it so much? It’s sort of like a very supportive bra–it’s not highly visible or flashy, but can really enhance everything else that I wear it with.
My favorite way to wear this is in the crease with Rockstar e/s on the lid, but because it’s neutral, I can wear it with anything from rose gold to gray and it works. I can see why it’s described as both gray and brown in reviews–it’s somewhere in between.
The formula is great. It has a good amount of pigmentation, but it’s buildable if I want more. When I wear this over a primer, it stays on for about 12 hours (by hour 18 it starts to crease, but by then, I start to fade too 🙂 ).
While this isn’t a shadow I’d consider fun or exciting, this is one I’ll surely hit pan on. Its versatility and formula make it one of my favorites.

This is a great matte, grey-brown eyeshadow. It’s smooth and easy to apply. Excellent color pay off and staying power. It complements my hazel eyes, and it is one of those shadows that is neutral, but not boring.

On me this looks brown. I got this mainly for the smokey eye look but realized it can double to fill in eyebrow & even as eyeliner (with a wet brush). The color stays even after a whole nite of salsa dancing and even thru hot tropical climates whr in live. So no complaints here. I would def repurchase if i run out.

I have never worn grey eyeshadow, ever. I guess I never found the right shade. I have been slowly adding to try eyeshadows the more I grew confident in applying them. I have always stayed with lighter colors because I could never blend them well enough. I acquired some Hakuhodo brushes and now I could wear the ones I thought I couldn’t. All of my shades were brown. I am venturing into greys and purples. Slate is amazing for my green eyes. It can be applied lightly or more intense. It really brings out the green in my eyes. It is definitely a medium grey but I think there is a little purple and brown in there, too. I have been wearing it with BB Sand Dollar cream shadow on the lid and Slate in the crease. I am finally glad that I tried it.

Hmmm, I am singularly baffled that so many described this shadow as “brown”. I have worn it for as long as BB has existed and it has always been a medium grey. There might be a tiny hue of brown mingled into it, but it applies and reads as “medium grey”. Wondering whether they perhaps use a different contract manufacturer for their European customers to to their US ones?
Anyhow, there is MUCH to like about this shadow. Whilst the pigmentation level has lamentably decreased over the years, it is still a great matte-without-looking-flat silky shadow which adheres beautifully to the lid, has minimal if any creasing through the day, yields little to no fallout, and looks great on blue or blue-green eyes ( NB it might also look great on brown eyes, but have just not seen it). Indispensable for a fail-safe 5 minute “polished & groomed” look when paired with just a hint of blush, tinted lip balm and mascara. Makes your eyes look better without making them look “done”. I agree with the poster who said the shadow darkens on the lids slightly during the day. It does, but in a subtle way.

This eye shadow looks muddy on my fair skin and makes my face look dirty and washed out. Additionally, it is not a real slate, but a brown with purple undertones that make my eyes look tired and bloodshot. Also, it is a little hard to blend because it looks so dirty on my fair skin. I will not repurchase.
