There is nothing bad to say about this. I’m trying to post reviews mainly for products that I used a long time and really like. This is among them.
With Patina or Omega it brings out brown eyes beautifully and yet in a subtle way. It is a good fine texture and very unique colour – has brown, taupe, grey, but not too much of any of those –
and I could not find a dupe for it – had to purchase it after a very long time of trying to avoid that. I like how much of an impact it makes with the smallest amount. You can build it up softly and blend without making it muddy or patchy. It also looks smooth, not cakey in any way.
I left this in another review but a great combo is:
Mac Patina, Charcoal Brown softly in outer v, Powersurge kohl in waterline and Estee Lauder coffee liner as a liner for top lashlins –
all work beautifully together to deliver a subtle but slight glam look – I got this combo from a video by Tanya Burr. When she puts it all together, you will see her eyes seem to become more amber and brighter.
I tried that combo with substitutes for any of those products but you need all of them in conjunction for that effect to work. She was SUCH a genius.
It has not irritated my sensitive eyes/skin, like most MAC shadows.

This is one of the four MAC shades I have in my travel quad, as well as my 18 pan personal daily palette. It’s the one shade I’d buy first if I lost all my eyeshadows of any brand. I’d even buy it in the stand alone pot, not just the less than half the price refills.
It is a cool taupey grey undertoned dark brown that I use as a brow filler, eye liner and outer V deep shade. It’s a matte, blends out like a dream. You can use it for an eyeliner (I push it up under the lashes to tight line with, using an eyeliner brush) or the brows, it never pulls red. And it sheers out to a whisper of colour for the outer V.
It does it all. On a fast get ready day I can fill my lids in with foundation powder, then use this sheered out for a transition, a little deeper on the outer V, and deeper still on the lashline, and also to fill in brows.
When I put in more effort I like it with Blanc Type and Kid and a shimmer for effect on the lid. It literally goes with everything.

Such a good match for me!! I have been searching hi and low for a good eye brow filler and today the search is over! Charcoal Brown looks like a soft cocoa color. On my brows I get a soft and beautifully matched color. Great price and does the trick!

I was recommended this shade to fill in my brows but I’ll get to that in a bit. The packaging for the Mac shadows is wonderful, I love that about them. I really feel like you can count on Mac shadows and I don’t feel that there will be a Mac shadow that is ever going to be ‘awful’ or ‘terrible’ because the formulas are just good ok? Buuuuuuuutttt……. the quality of mac’s shadows are heavily dependent on the shade that you get. Unfortunately, this matte shade charcoal brown is not so great at blending, although it’s possible obviously, and can actually get a little uneven and dare I say patchy when you spend too much time trying to softly blend it out. So I was recommended this shade for my brows after asking for a less intense version of ‘brun’ which is a satin shade that I have been using lightly to fill in very slight sparseness in my brows. They suggested this after I asked for a shade with as little or no red, warm, earthy tones because that is honestly such a cheap look on the brows when you have a ton of warmth/red hue to your brow makeup. It’s just not natural looking to be honest (unless you’re a redhead). I feel like brun is the exact 100% match in TONE for my brows, as in there is no warmth to the shade which gives me a nice natural look. Charcoal Brown on the other hand does have a way more warm tone than shade Brun does. I have uploaded an image showing a swatch comparison of Brun next to Charcoal brown. I want a shadow that has the same exact cool TONE as Brun but is lighter and less intense/pigmented because I have to be so careful with Brun or it builds up my brows really intensely really quickly! I think Concrete will be my best bet for this but I couldn’t find it in a normal MAC store near me in the UK, I will have to visit a Pro store and ask for that shade! For now, I actually exchanged charcoal brown for shade Coquette, which is lighter and is mostly cool toned but it’s just a little off from perfect for me because it’s still got a hint of earthy warmth to it ( ever so so so so so slightly) but it’s ok and doesn’t give me a cheap orangey brown eyebrow look haha! Coquette is also REALLY HIGH QUALITY BY THE WAY. It’s sooooooo blendable and buttery it would be so good used as an eyeshadow as well as a subtle brow powder. Hope this helps 🙂

The BEST powder for my brows! I’m a fair blonde (n18-nc20) and this is eye shadow looks very natural on my brows. I use the mac 208 angled brush to apply it and it goes on smoothly, looks very natural and flattering and stays put throughout the whole day. Highly recommend!

If you tried to swatch this, you would know it is horrible. You barely get any color and it looks patchy. But this is one of the best shadows I have from Mac. It works in my brows. It is great as a crease color and stays on all day. I will purchase again if I run out.

I love this color! I use it as a crease color and so far it looks great with the shadows I’ve paired it with. Apply it with a fluffy brush and it’s absolutely perfect. I recommend this for anyone looking for a great shadow to use in the crease!

This is a lovely cool toned brown for adding depth to your eye look. I find it a tad too dark to be used all over the eye, its best for keeping to the outer V. Its also a pain in the butt to blend out so I wouldn’t recommend it if you’re trying to get out the door in a hurry! But overall very pretty, if a bit pricey. I would buy again

I use this charcoal brown shade for my eyebrows, and it is the perfect colour for all hair shades in my opinion! I bought this after seeing a lot of beauty bloggers using it and it’s amazing, it has a perfect consistency for a natural looking brow, with a dark brown tone that suite blondes, brunette and all hair types! I recommend this product to anyone who is looking for a long lasting brow filler!
