First of all the packaging is wonderful and the velvety texture very satisfying to swatch. One of my fave eyeshadows is Satin Taupe so I thought I’d enjoy the variation but Rosewood is sheer, lighter and more pink.
Unfortunately does nothing for my light neutral to warm skin tone. I keep trying every now and then using 239 brush and TFSI but it’s always unremarkable needing much help from other shadows and eyeliner.

Honestly, these Burberry single shadows have been so hyped that I don’t know if it was even possible for them to live up to my expectations. Rosewood is a taupe colour with a pinkish-mauve undertone and a soft satin finish. It looks darker on my face than it seemed in swatches. It also makes me look unwell! Sickly purple-brown eyelids: not a look to aspire to. But I also don’t find the colour to be particularly complex, as I’d heard from bloggers, and it certainly isn’t unique. I have at least three verrrry similar colours, and I don’t even have an extensive stash. I’d say get this if you don’t have any taupes, can handle rose toned eye colours without looking like a rabbit with myxomatosis, and you don’t mind paying a premium for luxurious packaging. Otherwise, it’s not a must-have!

Youtube Gurus love Burberry single shadows thus I purchase them immediately when they become available on Sephora. Gurus promised soft, unique coloured shadows and that Pale Barley pretty much would take over my life. Sadly, everyone else seemed to get that memo and it wasn’t available. Mulberry and Rosewood seemed like the next best choices because they do appear subtly unique in pan. The subtle pink/brown velvety looking shadow called to me…
PROS:
– The packaging of this shadow is what I thought the Tom Ford would be (metal, weighty, lux).
– The colours in the range do have a subtle uniqueness that appeals to people, like me, who are always looking for a very specific color and are willing to pay to get it.
CONS:
– The shadow swatches beautifully and applies well but there is something temperamental about it. Its like if you touch it at all, whether that is a second sweep with a brush or even a blink, the shadow looses its rich color and looks worn and tired. I used Kat Von D’s primer and Smashboxes and it didn’t make a difference. Hand swatches did the same thing when I went in for a second layer. This makes the colours appear tired and worn. This issue is why I didn’t even feel like I needed two separate reviews.

Don’t mistake subtle for typical, boring or dupable. This is really a unique shadow that does its work by making your eyes look fabulous. My blue eyes are positively mesmerizing with this shadow and yet, it doesn’t look like I’m wearing makeup – don’t we live for that! A muted rose taupe that leans cool. Very versatile since it can be on the lid or in the crease for a very casual look (in fact it is a very effective no-makeup look this way). Looks superb with Burberry Midnight Brown when doing a smokey eye. As with all Burberry shadows the formula is creamy and melds into your skin. UPDATE: I love it even more.

This is a very pretty creamy eyeshadow. Comes up a rosy taupe on me. Nice for everyday, but the color is not especially unique. Don’t think I would repurchase.

I hesitated for about a year before I finally caved and bought this eyeshadow. I notice the word brown in many of the reviews below, but on my skin Rosewood is definitely not a brown or taupe eyeshadow. I would describe it as a browned pink on my NW10, Nars SG Siberia skin. It isn’t shimmery, but has a gorgeous sheen on the lids. I was wearing Naked Lunch by MAC as a lid shade for a while (with no other eyeshadows) to brighten my eyelids and give them some color, but Rosewood has completely replaced NL. It is much more subtle and sophisticated and simply beautiful, both used alone and combined with other shadows (Burberry Mulbery, MAC Satin Taupe, Twinks, the UD Naked 2 palette, etc.). I also love the packaging, it feels very expensive and I love the sound when it snaps should. However, there is one downside to this shadow, it creases on me. I use MAC paintpot in Soft Ochre as a base, which works fine with my MAC, NARS and UD shadows, but isn’t enough with my Burberry shadows. I will buy a proper primer soon and update this review accordingly.
Update 06/04/2014: I bought a primer several months ago and I must admit and I haven’t had any problems with creasing since then. I am really enjoying the two Burberry eyeshadows I have (this one and Mulberry) and am contemplating buying more (Almond in particular).

Love this! Beautiful true taupe shade that is beautifully pigmented, smooth and long lasting. The packaging is luxe too – definitely a treat yo’ self kind of item, but very worth the $$ !

I never wear brown e/s, think it makes my eyes recede and they are deepset, but oh this is beautiful. Makes my green eyes pop, texture is unbelieble, etc. I ended up getting five colors all together. There is just no comparision, and the s/a at Nord in SF helped me lose some of my silly ideas about what I can and cannot wear.

I am so glad I found this eyeshadow, because it is a perfect dupe for Bobbi Brown’s own Rosewood shimmer shadow that was included in my prehistorical Nude on Nude shimmer palette. I used that palette to death, and there is almost nothing left in the pan. I was getting quite desperate to find a similar shade. And then Burberry Rosewood found me.
The quality is good, the powder feels light and soft, my lids don’t get itchy (they do with Mac products, for instance), it is even more pigmented than the Bobbi Brown one (perhaps less creamy?). I am so pleased with the colour, which is a fantastic for a light, nude smoky (my everyday eye). Not too purple, not too brown, it brightens my lids perfectly.
I will probably purchase Pale Barley and Taupe Brown next. When I can afford it, that is.
