Online cosmetics are a big risk for me. Colours aren’t always true, consistency can be off, reactions happen, and you never know what you’re going to get until you’ve got it in your hand. As I’d sworn off powders for cream products, I wasn’t in the market for powder shadow anyway, but something about this little gem seduced me.
Most brands, even the high end ones, just get mattes wrong — they’re chalky, streaky, patchy, unreliable messes with more fall out than a YouTube beauty guru scandal — but the versatility of an excellent matte palette was tempting; however, when I saw the price (less than 10 USD) I decided to gamble that maybe this would be different than all the expensive brands I’d tried over the years. The result? Buy this palette because it’s literally perfect.
If what you want is an extremely flattering natural look, the Summer Edition #7 Mellow Sand palette is exactly what you’ve been looking for. Matte without being chalky. Both slightly cool and slightly warmer tones that blend and mix well. Not two dimensional, the shadows have both depth and presence. Big pans of rich, buttery colour. Pigmented without staining. Silky application and smooth blending. Subtle and complimentary, yet buildable, and no irritations whatsoever.
Tiny! Approximately three inches long, two inches wide, and less than half an inch thick, this palette is compact but the space is well used as the pans are large and have good depth. Travel-friendly, the palette takes up minimal space on the vanity or in the makeup bag, it’s sturdy, clicks to close, and cute.
This is easy to use, every day makeup that can make the transition from day to night. The shadows can be applied with fingers, sponge applicators or brushes, and did better dry than wet. The product lasts 6-9 hours without primer with little fading, but it’s easily removed with standard skin care products.
While I’m new to this cruelty-free South Korean brand with the Spanish name, it is my understanding that they’ve been around a few years now, and I consider myself a fan. I’ve been using this daily for months and I can literally find no fault with this palette. I’ve purchased a second Mellow Sand for my travel bag so the one that lives at my vanity can remain parked there. I’ve added a few more small palettes in the line and I’ve yet to be disappointed. Considering I’d sworn off powders for creams that’s a big endorsement, and you can find them on sale at YesStyle right now.
These palettes are really, really good. I’ve paid (a lot more) for high-end brands that disappointed me because mattes are so difficult to get right. Chica Y Chico One Shot Eye Palette #7 Mellow Sand is matte done correctly and well, and it’s a steal for the price.
