I was picking up some things at Ulta & saw this eyeshadow palette. I thought it was gorgeous, but even at the low price of $5.99, I walked up to the register without it, unable to justify the purchase. The cashier told me about the buy one get one half off sale & asked if I wanted to go pick something else out. So I made a mad dash back to the essence section & picked this palette up.
I love this palette. I’m usually simple when it comes to my makeup… like I’m borderline basic. Most days I just use one eyeshadow shade packed on the lid & blended out. I was getting tired of constant neutrals though. So in this palette you get four shades that are marketed as eyeshadows: a steely blue-grey, a light green, a mid-toned pink, and a yellow. All of the shades are pretty sheer but can definitely be built up for more opacity, & all are packed full of sparkle/shimmer/glitter. The yellow shade is the only one that has blatantly chunky glitter, but I like it. The larger pinkish-purple shade is marketed as a highlighter, & the larger orange shade is marketed as a blush. I don’t use highlighter regularly so I’ve never used any of these shades on my face as highlighters, although some people in reviews say that most of the shades in this palette can be used to highlight. I use the larger colors as inner corner highlights, as they’re perfect for that purpose & I can’t picture myself using something so sheer, metallic, & orange as a blush.
The texture of these is great as well. It’s unlike any eyeshadow formula I’ve ever tried (although TBH, I haven’t tried a broad range of formulas). I just use my finger to pack these onto the lid & blend them out. I rarely get complimented on my eyeshadow but when wearing these I’ve been getting complimented quite consistently, by coworkers, my boyfriend, etc. Staying power is average (they’re still on my lids by the end of an 8-hour work day) but I’ve never used these with an eyeshadow primer underneath. Oh & the packaging! It’s pretty cutesy, with stars, a shooting star, a planet, & a moon, in silver on the clear lid. Definitely not luxurious or expensive, but I appreciate that even such an inexpensive product can be presented in an aesthetically appealing way. I love having this palette in my collection & will definitely check out more Essence eye palettes in the future.
