The color scheme of this palette is delicious. I expected so much, especially after reading reviews. I was disappointed overall.
The formula was weird. The pigment wasn’t exactly there and in many of the shades, I found that I had to keep dipping my brush in many times to get color pay off. Despite priming my eyes, the shadow was non-existent by the end of my night. Which, lasted for 3 or 4 hours total.

This palette is terrible. The only good thing is the packaging. The brush that comes with it sucks for that particular palette’s formula but suprisingly works well for my other UD palettes and my TF ones and NYX single shadows and so forth. The shades look beautiful but upclose there’s this weird fine glitter that you notice shining. It’s not like a regular shimmer formula. It’s different. Idk how to explain it. It’s so weird. Almost like the shimmers are separate from the powder like they are floating within. But it’s not UD’s “floating pearl formula either”. Anyways the shadows swatch like a champ but on the eyes it looks so dull and unflattering and I’m suspecting it’s because of those little shimmer/glitter thingies. It’s not like Junkie which has shimmer and random glitters. It’s not like Smog which is a straight up metallic-y shimmer. It’s not like Evidence where it’s a powdery satin-y shimmer. It’s just so freakin ugly. I’m sorry. I’m just being real here. So yeah. It has sat in my makeup drawer since Christmas and has only been used twice. I am so upset that it didn’t work out. I have their Urban Spectrum palette and it’s fantastic! I had the Full Spectrum and it was awful too. I know UD isn’t selling this palette anymore but maybe someone can relate to this review if they own it and know that they aren’t alone in being disappointed in the UD Afterdark palette.

This is a nice palette. Many bold colors. Not so much for daytime as noted. Definitely a going out palette. My more detailed review video is below.

I was excited to get my hands on this palette simply because I like most of the UD eyeshadow (singles & palettes). The color combination of this palette is absolutely gorgeous and you can do lots of creative looks with it. Not gonna lie, I was expecting something like the Electric Palette. I should’ve known better since these are just eyeshadows whereas the Electric Palette contains pressed pigments. However, even as eyeshadows… I don’t like most of the shades. You also seem to get a little more product than the Electric (10 x 1.7 g VS 10 x 1.2g). It’s not a big difference, but just in case you were wondering. The packaging is beautiful. I love the concept and no matter how many times I dropped it… it stayed intact. I would still protect it with some bubble wrap or something just in case if you plan on travelling with it. I’d say that it’s slightly bigger in height than the Electric palette, but nothing too noticeable.
Like I said, as a whole… I am disappointed in this palette. It is probably because I had my expectations too high, who knows, but one thing is sure: I don’t like it. Don’t expect high pigmentation with these. They swatch beautifully with your fingers (most eyeshadows do, so it’s nothing special) but with a brush (and I tried severals) it is impossible for some of them to reach a good color payoff. A common way to make them work is by using them wet or applying them with your fingers… which I know is not everyone’s cup of tea.
”Alter” is an okay shade for me. I would use this as a nice subte highlight. ”Scene” doesn’t show up at all. I don’t see the point of this color unless you use it wet. ”Supersonic” and ”Sinful” are very hard to build up. ”Off Duty” is okay. The purples are awful… and they were the most disappointing to me. UD purples were probably my favorite purples and they totally failed these two. ”Lounge” is okay, I don’t personally like the fact that it turns out grey/brown instead of a nice duo-chrome green/brown… I don’t know. That’s what I was expecting. ”Fringe” and ”Paralyzed” are good.
All of the shades are made of talc except ”Fringe”, which is a shade you can find in the Electric Palette as well. Although, they are not the same formula. I don’t know if there’s another existing shade sold individually and that has been put in this palette, but if so… there’s a high chance that they are not the same formula.
A thing that people seemed to complain about was the brush. I don’t usually care for the brushes that come in palettes, so I can’t tell you if it’s good or not, but based on the hairs… it is very scratchy and I wouldn’t be surprised if it created a lot of fall outs. The brushes included in UD Naked palettes are actually pretty decent and the one in the Electric was okay too.
To conclude, I wouldn’t recommend it. I know it is limited edition and it is probably sold out everywhere on the Internet and in-stores… but just so you know, don’t waste your money on this. Only 2 or 3 out of the 10 shades were good in my opinion. I feel bad for saying that because I know lots of people actually enjoy this palette. I don’t know if it’s just me, the palette or if I got a bad one… I actually have some pretty similar shades (and less expensive) in my makeup collection and they don’t require water or intense building to get a good saturation.
