   This is an average eye makeup remover. It worked okay, but I found I needed quite a bit of product. It is certainly not worth the price.

   I think that this Yves Saint Laurent eye make up remover is very good. It manages to remove all my eye makeup in one go, which I have not found with other products. I also find that my eye area does not feel dried out after using it, which is often the case with my other make up removers.

   Would definitely buy again 🙂

   This YSL one stings and irritates my sensitive eyes* It is very effective but works exactly the same as any of the double layered removers you have to shake up, or simple vegetable oil from your kitchen pantry. It is more pricey at NZ $68 (around $58 US??) but works no better and in my experience is identical to:

   – Lancome Bi-Facil Double Action Eye Make-up Remover
   – L’oreal Dermo Expertise Gentle Lip & Eye Makeup Remover
   – Maybelline Clean Express Waterproof Makeup Remover
   – Garnier 2-in-1 Waterproof Eye Makeup Remover (oily residue)
   – Neutrogena Oil-Free Makeup Remover (oily residue)
   – Elizabeth Arden All Gone Eye and Lip Makeup Remover (oily residue – but doesn’t sting )
   – Clinique Take the Day Off (VERY oily residue – but doesn’t sting)
   – Any Vegetable Oils you have on a half-wet cotton pad (oily residue – but doesn’t sting)

   I find nearly all of them work exactly the same except for price, scent and packaging – some irritate my sensitive eyes more than others. Save your money and grab whatever suits your preferences and budget as they are all the same!! You are totally not missing out on anything if you want to stay with the cheapest brand around.

   If you have REALLY sensitive eyes I would recommend only the Elizabeth Arden, Clinique, or Vegetable Oil on a slightly wet cotton pad (best for extremely sensitive).

   If you don’t like an oily residue and have extremely sensitive eyes I would recommend leaving the Bi-Phase style removers alone and get Make-Up-For-Ever “Sens Eyes” from Sephora, its a blue creamy lotion and is fantastic as its the ONLY remover in the hundreds I have tried over the last 30 years that doesn’t irritate my eyes apart from pure vegetable oil. You will have to switch out any long-wearing makeup that doesn’t play well with this formula but so far it has coped with all the brands of eye makeup I’ve been using – I occasionally run around eyes with a wet cotton bud afterward, but not often.

   *Using vegetable oil with a few drops of water was recommended to me by my Skin Allergy Doctor who is a Dermatologist, as I am allergic to most of the harsh chemicals in these bi-phase products, which are not suitable for sensitive eyes and need to have harsh preservatives in them because of the water content + eyes. This is a well-kept industry secret that a lot of commercial eye products trigger sensitivities that didn’t exist before. They put out the products because they are convenient and we ask for them, but they aren’t good for our skin.

   Vegetable oil has the additional benefit of conditioning lashes which the commercial ones don’t. Test patch before use to make sure you are not sensitive – my skin does not like nut oils but pretty much likes everything else. Olive oil is nice but a bit greasy, Apricot oil is light and refined on skin, Jojoba is fairly light.

   First things first: This is a biphase remover, you need to shake it up before you use it. If you don’t shake it up then it doesn’t work like it is supposed to. Follow directions on packages people!!

   I like this remover better than any others I have used in the past. I used to be loyal to Clinique Take the Day off remover. For some reason, that started to irritate my eyes after I started to wear contact lenses. I have also tried their Rinse off Remover and that irritated me too. The Take the Day off always left my eyes greasy and I had to use a lot of cotton (either balls or pads) to get my makeup off and I don’t do waterproof makeup so it shouldn’t be that hard. The Rinse off Remover didn’t work as well and of course you have to rinse it after you use it. I have also tried Almay and Maybelline removers and they don’t even compare to high-end removers. They are disgusting, greasy, and sting my eyes. I just can’t do drugstore brands for much of anything anymore. Thankfully, the cost isn’t an issue for me.

   So this is my HG eye makeup remover now. It doesn’t burn or sting, it is very gentle and I only need one swipe on and one swipe off (same cotton pad). It also leaves my eyes feeling clean but not scrubbed dry. They just feel smooth and perfect, as they should. I don’t feel like I need to wash it off either. So this is a little more pricey than others, but I think it is worth it. (Not much more than Clinique, but 10 times better quality). If you are looking for a high end remover, or you have sensitive eyes, try this one. I love it.

   Also, I guess most of you don’t realize this, but you shouldn’t be using things like Vaseline, baby oil, and other products that are not specifically created for eyes to remove your makeup. My mother got herpes of the eye from using Vaseline and my eye doctor has been very vocal about telling me to use removers that are ophthalmologist tested/approved. Petroleum jelly actually says on the container do not get into eyes. Now of course I know you won’t deliberately put it in your eyes, but really, it can do some serious harm just around your eyes. Eye makeup remover products are specially formulated to ensure that potentially harmful microorganisms cannot grow and multiply.

   As picky as some of you ladies are about cleaning your brushes or having to touch a product on your finger before putting it on your face, I would think that you would not want icky bacteria growing in your eyes simply because you wouldn’t shell out a few bucks more for some actual remover.
