Been using the 48 shade palette form of this foundation since 1997. This full coverage creme based foundation is very easy to work with and easily blends with primers even if you wanted to thin out the consistency to a liquid if you wanted too without sacrificing coverage. The pigment content is medium to high. The longevity is typical with what you’d find with other similar creme based foundations such as RCMA and Cinema Secrets, But just like all other foundations, maintaining it through touch-ups throughout the day is normal. Thankfully Kryolan hasn’t changed the formulation since I’ve been using it. They have however have changed the names / numbers of some of the shades.
I find this foundation stands up well on the skin in most temperature and humid conditions. I find I have to powder more in higher temps and in higher humid conditions but that is normal. Surprisingly this foundation works and blends fairly well in a near frozen state. On a couple of episodes from seasons 2 and 3 on Reign, and on 1 episode from season 1 of Titans, I’ve used it outside in winter doing touch-ups in minus 20 and in minus 30 degree Celsius weather respectively, and the product blended and applied easily to my actors with very minimal powder to set it, without using an external heat source and not in the heated cast tent. This was in-front-of-the-camera just before they rolled. And it held up well without the dry and cracked look of a typical liquid foundation in extremely cold conditions.
The picture you see is the most recent pot version. As far as I know, Kryolan doesn’t carry refill wells for the palette, so I purchase the pots and decant the product into the corresponding wells from the palette. Over the years, I’ve gotten pots in which the lids don’t screw on properly, and I’ve purchased two pots in which the transparent part keeps popping out from the lid. Obviously these are manufacturing defects of the packaging, and seems to be quite rare considering how many pots I’ve purchased over the years. The palette is made of metal, which is superior than the plastic palettes from their competitors.
The price point of both the palette and the pots is comparable to the industry standard price point of other foundations that come in the same packaging style.
Overall this is my go to foundation for the past 22 years which I’ve used in editorial, fashion and corporate photo shoots and in film and television productions.
Cheers everyone.

Was glad i made a big step to try this cream foundation, super natural finish (with proper blending, single layer) Please read all the other reviews, very helpful and useful but you need to try it yourself. I hv combination to oily skin so my face does get a bit shiny but you know wt to do (powder/blot tissue etc) however honestly i like a bit of natural shine on my face (not greasy) price factor, bought it for S$70+ from cosmoprof singapore quite exp I think but the product is good i wear make up everyday so will use it sparingly or alt with other brand…

I LOVE this product. Photographs beautifully and perfect for bridal makeup. Easy to use and blends into the skin well. If you have a oily or combination skin.. this product can get quite oily on the face, especially if it is a hot day. To minimize the oily (melting off my face look) use a primer before use and translucent powder in your T zone

Wide varieties of shades and I’m yet to find a foundation shade that matches my skin as well as this one does.

I really like this foundation, it is the best I’ve had so far, the colour really matches my skin which is rare, the only things I don’t like is the packaging because you have to put your fingers on it or a brush (and a brush gives a heavy coverage), and that it doesn’t have SPF included and it has fragrance on it, other than that it is very nice and very comfortable to wear but it is oily so you have to set it up with powder afterwards unless you have dry skin.

Best foundations for photoshoots! I’ve been using these for my portrait photography for years and they keep photographing beautifully. Once powdered they are very matte so you’ll need a fixing spray to add a bit of dewiness to the skin again if you’re going for that effect.

For complete coverage, this is one of the best products out there. Especially great for my clog-prone skin, because it’s mineral oil free.
The biggest hassle is finding a shade match. Kryolan’s product shots are terrible swatches. So, I ordered “ULTRA FOUNDATION MINI PALETTE 18 COLORS #1” to get a sampling of the shades. From there I knew I wanted Light Oriental and Dark Oriental (not to be confused with Light Olive and Dark Olive). Then I wanted something a little more yellow.
I left us.kryolan.com and went to global.kryolan.com. The global site features more palettes in the Ultra formula. Getting a sense of what colors are paired together really helps narrow down the options. Then, I purchased the $11 refill size in a few colors that felt close. So it’s an expensive experiment to find the right shades. But now that I have them… it’s easily my full coverage HG product. Far less cakey than a full coverage liquid foundation, because cream is nearly all pigment.
The finish is dewy when applied with a wet sponge or brush. The finish is matte with a dry sponge. Always very skin like. Overall, excellent and coverage that’s worth the hassle, time and money.

Hands down the best liquid foundation I’ve ever used. I’ve been a diehard mineral makeup foundation user for years—-until I found this. It seems expensive, but it only takes a tiny amount to cover my whole face. My first bottle lasted a year! It covers very well yet looks natural.
I do set it with powder, and it lasts all day. It is gentle on my sensitive skin, and has no fragrance. I also like that it keep my skin feeling moisturized but not oily for my combination skin. I love this foundation.

I bought some samples due to the raves on youtube. It is not a bad foundation, yet not as exceptional as their allies on youtube claimed it is. The colour selection is the only thumb up I can give, I find a lot of the drug store foundation is just as good if not better than Face Atelier, plus about 1/3 to 1/4 of the price. I will not waste my money to buy the overpriced full size.

I bought samples of this through camera ready cosmetics, and glad I tried samples first. This foundation has a very silicone-y feeling which I do not like (prefer liquidy water based formulas). When I first apply it it seems to have a sorta dry look that emphasizes my large pores. Granted as the day goes on it does look better when it mixes with my natural oils. Colors seem to run lighter than I expected.

I’ve seen quite a few reviews raving about this foundation so I thought I’d give it a try. This company ships out of Canada and I can’t say enough good things about the customer service. I live in the US and I paid for over night shipping and received my package in 24 hours. If you go directly to their website they will let you buy samples of their foundation and I highly recommend you do this. Their shades are numbered and they don’t correspond with other companies numbers. I usually wear a 30N in Chanel or Dior or Mac. I have light/medium skin that is dry and mature with fine lines. I ordered shades 2 through 6 and none of these were dark enough for me. They do sell a red, black and white as well as yellow so you can mix your own shade. Fortunately I had ordered those as well so I was able to mix up my own color. This is great if you have trouble matching your skin tone. This foundation provides light to medium coverage. It goes on very smoothly and is build-able. It sits very nicely on the skin and looks pretty natural when I applied it with a beauty blender. Here’s my complaint about this foundation and maybe it’s just me but this foundation does not photograph well. In all the pictures I took in the three times I used it, all my pores looked enlarged. I was surprised because I don’t really have enlarged pores so I looked in the mirror and it looked fine but another selfie and again very porous looking skin. I’m a bit perplexed how a foundation could look good in person but awful in a photograph. I had a friend take a few pictures in her phone and the same thing happened. I just can’t really say I’m all that crazy about this foundation. It’s ok, the shades run very light and there’s not a lot of range but you can mix your own shade if you really like this foundation. The sample sizes are very generous so it’s well worth your effort to get some and try for yourself. I paid a dollar a sample. The wear time seems to be around 5 or 6 hours before it started to break up on my chin and nose. If you have oily skin you probably won’t like this foundation because it seems thicker and creamier than most foundations. I don’t normally have foundation break up on my nose but this one did, so I imagine it is full of some kind of heavy moisturizer. Like I said before, great in person, not so much in a photograph.

Im disappointed with the performance of this foundation due to the ff reasons:
1. Irritated my acne prone sensitive skin. I was expecting this would be compatible to my skin as it doesnt contain fragrance/perfume. This aggravated my acne similar to commercial foundations, no difference at all.
2. Not self setting. How can a liquid foundation be not self setting when thats one of the primary reasons we are after for. It keeps sliding off the tissue, nails, clothing
3. Not long wearing. Well because it is not self setting, it keeps transferring and so it would not be long wearing. Can be remedied by setting or pressed powder, setting spray. But wait, thats the long route for creams. This product is a liquid and shouldve avoided those lengthy steps
4. Oxides a little. As with most glycerine containing products, this also oxidizes to half shade darker. So do get testers or test with ur clients first
I guess this product is surrounded with lots of hype from the pro community and its basically designed for pros, but as for the consumer market this foundation is forgettable. There are lots of better products in sephora macys ulta mac stores and consumers who want fast base application will have to skip this one
3 stars – medium to full buildable coverage, wide range of shades with adjusters, no primer needed, not cakey, great for closeups hd compatible

I had high hopes for the Face Alelier Ultra Foundation but unfortunately this foundation was a disappointment. I applied this foundation using my clean hands and a beauty blender, both with the Face Atelier powder on top. Both times it left a greasy sheen on my face straight away but it did not get greasier as the day went on (just looked the same). It was far too dewy and oily looking for my face. I have combination skin so I prefer a demi-matte look. The texture and colour were nice though plus it did not break me out at all due to the high grade ingredients and lack of irritants. What a shame this is not suited to my skin! The product was very easy to blend. I used the colour Ivory which looks pale when you squirt it from the bottle, but changed to a darker colour on my face. The colour was a nice match for my light neutral skin. Someone with dry skin may like this foundation but it is definitely not for combination or oily. Oh well, looks like I’m back on the hunt for my Holy Grail foundation! If only they didn’t discontinue the Lancome Adaptive Foundation (this was my ultimate Holy Grail)…

Man this is a pretty foundation! I know they say no primer needed with it but I use the Hourglass Veil Primer just for a little extra hydration after moisturizer (dry as hell here). It looks skin like, can be built up without looking cakey and spreads great with a beauty blender. My hub loves the way my skin looks when I wear this.. I hate scents, this has none and it stays on all day! It’s probably the most unique one I have out of my collection in the way of how it sets, lasting coverage and it seems to look better in an hour or two. Takes a while to set. If you are dry you might really like this one if you can find your shade! I am NC 30 in MAC and WHEAT matches me perfectly!

My skin: dry and flaky / sensitive / eczema prone / acne prone at times / red patches / pale / yellow undertones
I have been on a foundation hunt again (just like every 6-8 months) these last weeks since my skin is at its worst (probably due to my pregnancy) and because I was looking for something that would make me look good without spending a lot of time, which I probably won’t have when my baby is born.
My main issue was to find a foundation that would give me an overall nice finish without enhancing my dryness. Secondly it would have been a nice plus to find something that would also cover my redness from old eczema etc. SO, I checked every single foundation available at our biggest Makeup Store such as Laura Mercier, Shiseido, Estee Lauder, Chanel,Dior, Armani, Bobbi Brown, Mac, Benefit, Illamasqua, BareMinerals and so on. Of course I found a few very nice foundations, however none of them gave me exactly what “I” needed. So I ended up checking out foundations available at the pharmacy, also hoping they might also be better for me due to their ingredients such as Vichy, La Roche Posay etc. Again, some had a nice finish, but did not cover as nicely as I wished or simply were far to thick and I ended up looking 15years older. ALSO the problem with foundations distributed by skin care companies tend to have a very low color range and lean towards the pink side. SOOOOO for a while I thought I have to stick to what a already own even though none of the foundations that I own are “good” as in suitable for my skin problems or quick for a new mommy to be time schedule :-/ THEN however I came across Kryolan Ultra Foundation and I LOOOOVE this foundation for MY type of skin. I never ever found a foundation that gives such high coverage without looking heavy or cakey. On my skin is looks completely natural while covering EVERYTHING!!!! Since it is an oil based foundation (DOES NOT BREAK ME OUT!!!), it leaves my skin looking flawless, even, healthy, hydrated and fresh. In MAC I am an NC 15-20, in MUFE HD Foundation I use n120 and in my Illamasqua Skin Base Foundation I use shade SB6.5 and I now got color matched with FS 38 and I must say, that this is the first foundation that fits perfectly. This comes in 70 shades!!!!! I have used it daily for over a month now and I haven’t even made a dent in this. 15g for 21€. The packaging is pretty ugly and I am not found of the fact that this a product that can not really be used as hygienically as for example a liquid foundation with a pump but I simply wash my beautyblender/brush with antibacterial soap every time after I use this foundation. I mainly use my damp beautyblender or my real techniques expert face brush, my Sigma Kabuki F80 or my bareMinerals precision face brush. You can also put this on with your fingers or with a sponge but I like the finish of the beautyblender the most. This is soooo easy to blend. It simply vanishes into my skin, goes on like silk and makes me happy and look flawless in under 10 seconds 🙂
This does not break me out/does not irritate my problematic skin/does not dry me out/ does not crack up on my dry patches or fine lines.
The only real downside to this is, that it does not last as long on the dry areas around my mouth, as for example Estee Lauder Double Wear or Shiseido UV Protective Liquid Foundation SPF30 which are said to have high coverage (they do cover but you do not reach the level of coverage you get with Kryolan Ultra Foundation let alone this beautiful natural EASY finish). So, I do have to touch up on the dry areas around my mouth after 3-5h but since it is so blendable and buildable this is done in a second. However since I love the finish and coverage, how easy it is to use and blend, the color and the natural look, I really do not mind at all. Especially now since I love to look into the mirror due to the “result” of this foundation and so touching up once or twice a day actually gives me joy ^^
LOVE THIS FOUNDATION with all my makeup-addict-heart and dry-but-acneprone-eczema-discolorated-skin!

I have combo skin and I never ever thought I would use a cream foundation as it just wouldn’t work for me, boy was I wrong! This has the coverage I’ve always wanted and sets to a natural matte finish (I still set my t zone with the anti shine powder by kryolan as well) it seriously looks like my skin has been photoshopped! I use the colour Light Beige and I normally wear an NW15 and it’s a perfect match and not too pink like the mac tends to be. I apply using a beauty blender or a sigma F80, which ever I handy at the time and it goes on like silk. Haven’t had any break out issues but then I always remove my makeup thoroughly using an oil based remover and then following up with my cleanser.
You use such a tiny amount for awesome coverage they weren’t lying when they said one pot will last 200 uses, I’ve been wearing it everyday for the last 2 weeks and haven’t even made a dent in it, and for $42nzd it’s cheaper than revlon, loreal and Maybelline and WAY cheaper than a $70 mac foundation and performs 100 times better. This is my holy grail!

I am a cream foundation nut – I have tried almost all drugstore (Revlon, Maybelline), department (MAC, LM. MUFE, BB), professional brands (Mehron, Graftobian, Cinena Secrets) – my FAV out of them all – Kryolan Ultra.
If you are nc40-42. Try the shade OB3. It blends into my face and looks like skin. The match is dead on perfect

I wear the shade Honey . I am an nc40. I find the color light and ashy when set. I love how it applies. I dont use a primer under it. But it glides on really well. It feels smooth. It doesnt feel sticky although it feels like it when you see the creamy texture akin to Giorgio Armani Luminous silk ( minus the watery texture) . I love it however i just dont like the color pay off. It stays on all day and it doesnt rub off unlike Nars all day luminous or cover fx custom cover drops. It gives a nice matte finish but oil control is so so. It is okay since it dont expect much for foundations nowadays. I just wear them and im done! I dont overanalyze or whatever. I dont wanna stress my life with thinking why this why that . All good. It’s fun that i get to try it .

You can purchase this foundation as a pro size (20mL and plastic container) or normal size (30mL and glass container). They both have pumps which is always a plus. The foundation has quite a liquid-y consistency, but don’t be fooled, it is gives you more coverage than you would think. The great thing about this foundation, is it is so easy to build from a very light coverage to moderately heavy coverage with out caking. The reason this is, is because it is silicone based. Silicone based foundations are great but you have to know what products are compatible with it otherwise it will not work in your favour. Make sure you use a silicone based concealer with it (example- makeup forever full coverage concealer) if you are blending the two together so they mix seamlessly. And DO NOT use a primer, even if it is silicone based, it will not work, stick with a moisturiser before use. If you won’t want to buy it because you feel like you need a primer with every foundation you use, you could say this has an ‘inbuilt primer’ in it because it is silicone based and it will last for the whole day. I read some people were upset because it leaves an oily or too dewy look on the skin. This foundation I find is ok on all skin types, you just have to set it! Even just set it with a powder in the t-zone to avoid that oily shine but keep the rest of your skin dewy. It truly is a great foundation that you can easily keep light or amp up.

I had high hopes for this foundation based on the positive reviews I read here but alas it didn’t meet my expectations. I bought the sample size Ultra Foundation in No 5.
Day 1: I applied Cerave body lotion on my face as my moisturizer then I used a stippling brush to apply the foundation (which btw is runny). It felt soft on my skin but I found it made my face look oily – maybe some would call it dewy but not me. By hour 4, my face was shiny I actually had to use the washroom and use a papertowel to wipe the oil off my face. (I dont usually wear make up so I had no face powder or blotting paper/tissue). I decided to give this foundation another try by changing my application technique.
Day 2: I applied Cerave to half of my face only then applied foundation on my entire face using a natural sponge. The appearance and texture was only slightly better. I still had oily face by hour 4.
I will keep trying different application methods and maybe put a translucent powder to set the foundation next time.
I should also note that my face turned a little bit darker within a few hours of putting the foundation on. At least it wasnt orange lol. Maybe this will be better in the winter when my face is drier. For reference I am combo skin – oily on tzone but have dry cheeks.
