This is for the NEW compact foundation. I have dry and sensitive skin and was intrigued by this from the moment I heard about it. I finally bit the bullet and ordered online, as at the time it wasn’t available in stores locally. I also chatted with Bobbi Brown’s online customer service and they matched me by asking questions about foundation colors I have used.
I’ve used liquid foundations pretty much exclusively for years; though I tried mineral/powder ones, they make me itch and just aren’t flattering. So this took me a bit of a learning curve, not having used a cream foundation before. Also, being summer I was mostly using my Paula’s Choice, as it has sunscreen (this does not).
First I tried using a BeautyBlender, and that didn’t work so well. I felt the foundation was sitting on top of my skin and sliding around. I was getting a little discouraged at this point; at $50, this is the most expensive foundation I’ve ever used.
Awhile back, I got the Sephora Pro Press Brush #66. Another learning curve… Hadn’t been using it much, so finally watched a couple of videos. The technique favored with this is firmly tapping (pressing) the makeup onto the skin, not buffing or stroking or what-have-you.
So this weekend the weather was bad so I could try this out (didn’t need sunscreen), so I decided to use this foundation and the brush together. A stroke of genius! Marriage made in heaven….
I think what I was doing before used too much of the makeup, and that’s why it sat there and didn’t meld. I firmly pressed the clean brush into the makeup, coating the tips of the hairs, then dabbed/pressed onto my face. The key seems to be stopping while you’re ahead. It was like my skin improved in the wake of the brush, without appearing to be makeup.
I wore it again today, initial results (now that I’m getting the hang of it) even more impressive. But it’s in how well it holds up that’s the real test. Normally, most foundation starts looking pretty ragged around hour 6-7; I have dry skin, so it mostly just collects around dry areas and looks yucky. I put it on this morning at 6am; got home at 8pm, and while some wear was evident, it did NOT do the congealing/gross flaking thing.
As I told my friend, I was ambivalent about liking this so much, as it means I’ll have to repurchase (I consider $50 for .28oz quite expensive). I will continue to use my PC for outdoor activities, as I like it and the sunscreen in it. BTW, this did NOT settle in lines or even need powdering. I was rather surprised by that; I guess I thought a cream would need it. But this has a nicely satin finish–neither matte nor dewy–that I thought very flattering.
Another plus is this comes in 20 shades, several seem quite light (I use Cool Ivory, which is not the lightest color).
