This is my favorite “grab and go” face palette, and I think its priced very well for all you get. Both Sombre and Shadowplay work for me as contour shades, while Subconscious (the darkest contour shade) is a great all over eye shadow or for crease. The highlight shades, which are subtle, and double as eye shades.
I love that it is now refillable – or, alternatively, one can simply purchase shades that work for you and place into another palette. While there is some kick-up with these, they apply smooth and I do not find any emphasis in texture. It’s also vegan and cruelty free, which is a major plus.

When I buy a palette I like to be able to use all (or at least most) of the shades. This isn’t a case with this one.
If you’re a makeup artist, this is an amazing product that will allow you to work on a variety of skin tones. If you aren’t, and your skin is fair (or you prefer very natural looking makeup) or dark, I’d say pass on this one.
Personally, I’m only able to use the first column the neutral highlighting shade and the neutral contour. The two other columns have wrong undertones to be used on my skin. The palette doesn’t give a variety of shades, it gives a variety of undertones and we all have only one to work with.
It blends well, it looks beautiful, but using two colors out of six doesn’t justify buying the palette.

Ahhh I love this palette! So awesome for contouring. The shade range is great and blends easily. I also like how buildable the color is. The best part is that sometimes they have these at Marshall’s / TJMaxx (which is where I got mine) such a steal!!

I’m very surprised with this product. I finally understand why it’s always sold out now.
The colors are very realistic looking as well as super pigmented. I have the cream palette and that one doesn’t show up on darker skin tones as nicely as this one does. The darkest shade might actually be too dark even when I’m extra tanned and wearing NC43. I genuinely believe women who are nc50 could use this and this makes me so happy because it’s so difficult to find contouring products like that.
Im usually an nc40 to 42 and I can actually get use out of the lightest contouring shade to help blend in the darker contours into my skin.
The staying power is very good, haven’t noticed it to be longer lasting than my ABH powder contours.
Overall I’m so happy with this purchase it’s probably my favourite in a long long time.

The formula for the shades are buttery and blendable, but I do have to say this is not for a beginner or someone who just wants one contour shade. I bought this because the packaging was beautiful and I loved the cool tones contour shade, but I ended up not using any of the highlighting shades because any kind of powder dries out my skin. The price is great for the amount of product and shades that you get, but I ended up returning the palette and buying two of the contour shades because that is all I realistically need. You only need the tiniest amount of product or it will look muddy.
I would say the only contour shade you really need is sombre; it is a true cool toned shadowy brown. The darker brown shade isn’t a necessity unless you like a really deep contour and the shade in the middle is a bronzing shade.

I was not planning on purchasing this since I just bought Tarte’s Park Ave Princess contour palette, which was $46 (and is gorgeous!).. but the Kat Von D was at my local Marshall’s for $19.99, and I caved and bought it.. I just don’t need it, but do we really need all the goodies that we buy!? ????.. #lifeofamakeupjunkie. .. My Tarte palette is definitely a more superior product, but the KVD is very good, and for under $20 I’m not mad at this beauty buy, and will definitely use it up! The shades are all flattering and usable on my nw25ish skin tone.. I would not repurchase at the $46 retail, but do definitely recommend this product.

Another product I bought because of the hype, adding that I just wanted to try a KVD product. I bought this as my first one around 8 months ago.
I’ve already hit pan on the soft peachy highlight and the warmer brown middle shades, because these are sooooo powdery. I guess this is what makes them so smooth and blendable but I find it kind of annoying, having to be so careful. Otherwise I feel like I’m wasting product.
I can use all the shades which I find surprising. I’m tan and I can even use the darkest shade which I was skeptical about at first, but as I commented before they’re so blendabe it ends up fusing (?) into the skin and looking great.
For reference, before getting this I was using Smashbox’s contour pallete (which is nice) however I think KVD’s is much more blendable, you get more shades (hence more versaitlity), and more product for the price.

best contour palette ever
price point is reasonable imo
it’s versatile, i think everyone can use this palette for contour
sometimes i use the light shade to set my makeup if i feel lazy to reach my face powder (it works just fine imo)
there’s even one day when i feel extremely lazy, so i also use this palette for my eyelook and it works
if you looking for contour palette with a great quality, versatile, with a reasonable reason
go buy this palette

I’ve been using this palette for almost a year and it’s the most versatile palette I ever owned!
A palette that I actually use all of the shades is quite remarkable.
These matte powders are highly pigmented and buttery smooth, making it easy to blend seamlessly into your face. I like that there’s no shimmer, creating a more natural look than having glitter all over your face. I can’t say much about the longevity, it lasts for more than a few hours. It slowly fades but it’s still visible at the end of the day (barely). These palette have a shade or two for everybody, but all of the shades work well for NC30 or close to that. (I tried on a friend with fair skin NC15 and it looks patchy on her – Subconscious and Shadow-play didn’t work but Sombre was okay. Also, her skin wasn’t that good in the first place, she had Rosacea)
HOW I USE THE SHADES:
~From top left to right and then bottom~
1. Pinkish Nude (Lucid) – Matte highlight for areas
2. Yellow Beige (Lyric) – Light coverage for any parts of my face / blending powder for mistakes
3. Soft Peach (Levitation) – Brighten my under-eye / add warmth to eyelids
4. Taupe (Sombre) – Contouring nose bridge / more natural shadow-like contour for chin
5. Soft Brown (Shadowplay) – Contouring cheekbones
6. Deep Brown (Subconscious) – Contouring chin / add definition to outer eyelids
PROS:
– Highly Pigmented and blendable
– No muddy colours, very natural (I’m a NC30 for reference)
– Lightest brown (Sombre) shade is perfect for contouring nose bridge that looks natural with no effort. (really mimics a shadow effect)
– Do a gradient effect with darkest and medium brown (Subconscious and Shadowplay) for contouring face.
– Durable Packaging (Powders do not break when dropped)
– Relative universal shades (You can use the first 2 colours for fair skin, second 2 colours for medium skin and third 2 colours for darker skin)
CONS:
– Silver words on packaging fades off after awhile.
(Heard they are releasing a refillable metal casing of this so yay!)
– It’s really just the packaging aesthetics wise.
In summary, this palette is fairly versatile for medium skin tones with good colour payoff and natural colours. It’s a definite repurchase for me!

When I started looking for a High End contouring palette I oscillated between Too Faced and ABH. Somehow, I ended buying this, and I DON`T REGRET IT! The undertones of this palette are amazing, even on fair skin. I use the lighter shades and they both look stunning. You can create subtle looks with it as well as full-glam. The pigmentation is unreal. TIP: if you are used to drugstore contouring products..try not to dig into this one in the same way. The slightest amount is more than enough for an everyday look. I used plenty of drugstore contour powders which had the lightening colors included; however, none of them showed on my skin. The ones in this palette can be used to clean up the contour shades and brighten up the look.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT. It may seem like a big investment, but a little goes a long way. I had mine for nearly 2 months now, I use it nearly everyday and it looks like it was barely touched.
