I’ve always been big on contouring, but many products I’ve tried – both cream and powders – don’t seem to sit right with me. What a great thing that this neat little palette-style highlight and contour kit would come into my life.
Most noticeably, it has six shades. Three highlighters, three contours. I only really use the very last shade for contouring, and rarely use the highlighters because of how heavy and creamy it is. I do find that the 2nd to 4th shades don’t work for my skin that well simply because of skintone, but the fact that this kit gives you 3 options for highlighters and 3 options for contour, it will certainly fit a whole range of skintones. While the image does show the 5th shade appears cool-toned, in my kit it is actually very warm-toned.
I did mention the consistency was heavy and creamy. This means that a little bit goes a really long way and too much makes it too hard to blend. I also find that using any type of sponge (tried the Beautyblender and silicone sponge) doesn’t blend too well, especially the silicone sponge. Maybe it’s just my inexperience with sponges and wrestling with thick creams. I blend with a dense brush and it works wonders.
Given the consistency, it might look streaky if you pull the product across your skin. I’ve definitely found the best way is circular motions buffing it into the skin, and then pat it in with the brush.
Overall, a good product for someone experienced and it is cheaper than a lot of high-end products while performing pretty well as long as you know how to manage creams. For someone new to contouring or makeup in general, I’d definitely suggest starting somewhere else.

First off this review is for the *cream* version of this product not for the identically-packaged and more well-known powder version.
Australis has always been one of those companies I want to love yet…every Australis product I have owned over the years always seems to end up living in the back of my drawers, and giving me the feeling that I would have gotten more bang for my buck by splashing out that little bit extra for a higher end product that I would actually use up. So it was interesting to see them try to tackle such a trendy thing as a contouring palette. And the result? It’s not a bad effort at all. I have actually been using this one regularly for a month now.
The powder versions never interested me too much (they all looked way too yellow for me) but the cream version in ‘cool’ which I picked up actually has some really nice true cool contouring shades in it. Kind of rare for anything drugstore makeup which always to me seem primarily geared towards yellow-toned people (I’m cool-neutral) The formula is rather what I’d describe as stiff and sticky; it’s not really the most amazing formula although it does dry down to a nice natural looking finish on me. This formula is really not too easy to work with, it does takes some practise and effort to get and great result (although you can get an amazing result). And it does have REALLY good lasting power, even without ‘setting’ it.
I would not recommend this to anyone brand new to contouring as the formula certainly isn’t goof-proof; it would be very easy to end up looking grey or streaky or muddy if your a contour beginner. But since the famous Anastasia contouring kits are not yet available in Australian land stores as I know of, this a good readily available and fairly good quality alternative.
