Quite difficult to get hold of Scalp Therapy nowadays. I used this some years ago as one of the last steps in my daily Nioxin regimen. As a conditioner it actually worked pretty well on my thick and wavy hair, but for hair loss I didn’t notice a thing. In fact the only reason I stopped using it was because of the amount of menthol in it which over time aggravated my scalp more and more until I stopped using it and allowed my scalp time to return to its normal state. Without the excessive menthol added I’m sure this could have worked well. Hopefully a re-formulation is in the pipeline… I’d be happy to try it again.

Bought the shampoo and conditioner in #1 with the hopes it would help my super fine virgin hair. I used it for about a week. Just long enough to make me itchy all over my body! I have NEVER had this happen before!
What the heck do they put in this stuff?!

I have been using Nioxin for 8+ years and I’m almost to the point where I’m scared if I don’t use it what would happen. I don’t however think its helping at all, since my hair loss is progressively getting worse. I hate the menthol tingle of this product and it doesn’t leave my hair feeling all that good. I currently use #2, although I have also used #6. 6 left my scalp too oily and 2 makes my hair look rather crazy. I think the only thing this product has done for me is the placebo effect. I do however still use the Scalp Treatment, since that you actually leave on your scalp. The first two steps you rinse down the drain.

I am 17 years old. I had beautiful thick hair, unfortunately my hairdresser decided that my hair was too thick and decided to thin my hair out! Ever since my hair has not been thicker! I began seeing patches and my hair fall in the shower and on my brush devastated me! I decided to cut my hair, and my new hairdresser recommended Nioxin. She recommended me the shampoo and conditioner and some treatment spray thing (it’s so expensive!! My word) but I decided to give it a shot! I began using it, and considering the fact that my hair was shorter the hairfall was relatively little. Hair loss is kinda genetic in my case, so my mum went to a hair loss specialist and he says that when you begin to use hair loss products your hair begins to fall, but give it 6 months and your hair will recover.
And like the doc said :
My hair began falling badly, I cried so often, I thought I was going to be bald, but I continued using the product – and my hair slowly began recovering.
After 4 months of using Nioxin, my hair feels healthy and looks beautiful.
I honestly feel that me cutting my hair and eating lots of fruits and vegetables as well as doing some exercises improved the condition of my hair.
Because ultimately, you can’t expect a product to work if you’re not eating the right foods. Treat yourself inside before you can treat yourself outside.
Also, try not straightening your hair for a while, it helps strengthen your hair and get exposed to the beautiful sun! It’s got amazing nutrients for your hair!
And lastly, have faith in your product, be positive that your product will work on you.
Get your Minty Hair Wacking (lovely mint scent to your hair) and be positive, eat healthy, exercise and never lose hope and we will fight this hair loss /thin hair struggle together!
With regards to allergies, I have really sensitive skin, but Nioxin only tingled my scalp and caused no allergic reactions. However we are all different, if you begin to see allergies, then unfortunately you have to stop, find other alternatives. It would help if you take the product to your doctor and find out what it is that’s making your skin irritated. So you don’t waste any more money on products that don’t agree with your skin.
I would recommend Nioxin to anyone that suffers from thinning hair and hair loss, it really improves your hair condition with your personal great efforts too!
Good Luck Guys,

I purchased #3 several times in both the shampoo and conditioner. I was hoping to add some bulk/life to my flat, fine, color-treated, blonde hair. Both products left a tingling feeling on my scalp. It made me feel like it was working! However, I get so much more from simply using hair powder or dry shampoo — I don’t think I’ll repurchase these. I felt like my hair was super clean after using these, but I don’t think I got the results that I wanted. I’d prefer to use a more hydrating shampoo/conditioner and then “dirty” my hair up with powder.

I have used Nioxin (System 4) on an off for about 2 years. I always get bored and stray to new products but then return because of the results the Nioxin gives me. I have damaged, chemically treated, dry and thinning hair. I have also noticed considerable hair loss. My once thick and beautiful hair is no more, but the shampoo and conditioners have helped. My boyfriend even commented that he notices less and less of my hair covering our bathroom, bedroom etc so it must be working! My hair feels noticeably thicker and I am able to apply the conditioner to my scalp without it causing horribly greasy hair. I have also noticed some regrowth. The formula is kind of drying so I switch it up with a more hydrating shampoo/conditioner once or twice a week. Will continue to use.

I have always had a bit of hair loss but only really noticeable in my hair brush and clothes rather than visible loss on my scalp. The last few months it has increased though and so I spoke to my hairdresser who recommended Nioxin. She warned me it would take a while to notice an improvement but after just one week the hair loss decreased by about 80%. I am only 3 weeks in so can’t comment on hair growth but the virtual end of hair loss in such a short time is staggering. Love this stuff. I use the 3 stage kit. Highly recommended!

I bought this for my boyfriend’s long hair since he started some hair loss. I bought system 2, and it appears that it worked. But I don’t think it is this shampoo per say, but that he was using conditioners with lots of silicone ( labelled as dimethicone) before which blocked the hair follicle and eventually caused the hair to fall out. Pantene conditioners have the most silicone to my opinion. These Nioxin products are missing the silicone which is great but you can get silicone free shampoos cheaper like L’oreal’s Everpure line which are sulfate and silicone free and naturally derived. BTW I hate and mean hate the mint in Nioxin products which is considered a skin irritant as well as a stimulant. But stimulating what??? This line is way too expensive for what it is, period.

I have been using the nioxin system 4 for 3 months now on the advise of my hairdresser to try and thicken up my very fine hair and reduce shedding which makes my hair look even thinner. I am not convinced that this has made any difference, in fact my hair shedding has increased so much I’m thinking of stopping using it! My hairdresser advised using it for at least 6 months to see a difference but I’m actually scared I’ll have no hair left by then!! Am going to stop using in for a few weeks to see if hair shedding slows down. Disappointed after reading so many good reviews, but I suppose it doesn’t work for everyone.
