I gave this product a middle of the road rating because it didn’t work for me, but I am probably the wrong hair type for it so it may work better for you. This was recommended to me by my stylist. I have very normal healthy hair. This conditioner comes in a pot that you scoop out which I thought I’d hate, but I actually like the container. Because it’s so thick I don’t think you could get it out of a bottle. But it’s quite heavy. My hair gets very greasy looking when I use it. I didn’t mind it so much in the dry harsh winter, but in summer my hair just looks dirty and greasy.

Who this will work for: Anyone with a European hair type (fine to medium hair shaft thickness) that is of medium to thick density and lower than bra level or below shoulders if it’s very dry.
I dry my hair after shampooing, slather this on and put my hair in a bun for half an hour or so to let it sink in. I use it twice a week and make sure I use a clarifying shampoo in my hair so it doesn’t build up over time.
The result is silky, moisturised long hair that isn’t weighed down and has a ‘bounce’ to it. As long as you have the right hair type this works miracles!
I am unsure how this would perform on very dry or damaged hair or for any woman/man of colour as my hair type is quite different. Worth a try!!

Davines Oi shampoo is my current favorite, but the matching condish breaks me out (panthenol, you dark mistress you) which is sad because my hair loved it. Since my Davines experience had been so good, I searched for a conditioner from the line without panthenol and landed on Melu.
My hair: bra-strap length, fine, medium-thickness, and wavy. I literally aim a dryer at my hair like 2x a week and never dye or heat style. (Lazy.) So my hair is healthy and very good to me – incredibly low maintenance when I’m halfway decent to it. However, and therein lies the rub, this “routine” (if you can even call it that) creates the need for products that work well ALL ON THEIR OWN. With no help from me. Melu definitely fits that category. Even if I air dry and skip all other products my hair looks great.
It’s a light green slippery cream with a fresh scent (it’s pleasant, but not the deep-breath-with-eyes-closed-inducing fragranceof the Oi line…). A little goes a long way, and it disperses easily through hair. Leaves just the right amount of slip. I feel it’s keeping my hair in good condition – by this I mean it’s nourishing, but definitely not deep conditioning. If you have very thirsty hair you may want to look elsewhere. It rinses clean, feels light, doesn’t weigh down my fine waves, and hasn’t broken out my face/chest/back. (I have been experiencing some hairline clogging but not sure it’s the culprit.)
Sidenote: my Melu came in a square plastic tub. I got it off Jet.com and am pretty sure it’s authentic. Mentioning this because it seems like Davines switches up packaging a lot and is also susceptible to internet fakery. And…I understand the packaging is eco and well thought out, but it is pretty annoying to use. At least you can scoop every last bit out!
Sidenote 2: when I say a little goes a long way, it really really does. I doubt I’ll have to repurchase for at least 4-6 months, which takes the sting out of the price a bit.

I really wanted to like Melu. I bought a giant bottle after a coloring disaster, hoping to bring my hair back from the dead. And it seemed to be making my hair stronger. But it was also breaking out my scalp to an unprecedented degree. Giant bumps on my scalp that appeared shortly after using Melu, every single time, then took forever to go away. Every experiement I’ve tried to narrow down the problem seems to be pointing to Melu as the culprit. Too bad, since it seemed like it was doing some good to my hair.

I L.O.V.E. this stuff. First of all because it does not break me out around the hairline and on my back, which most conditioners, even the expensive ones, tend to do. Secondly, it makes my hair feel smooth without weighing it down which is no small feat. Inclined to name this my HG product, eventhough it is very expensive and the jar packaging is not practical.

I’ve been using Melu shampoo, conditioner and serum daily for almost 5 weeks now to prevent breakage caused by tangles in my long, fine and non-colored hair. While the shampoo is great but a little heavy, the conditioner is absolutely awesome! First times I used it, it felt like I had new hair. And 5 weeks on I definitely see less breakage. My hair is super easy to brush and very soft and shiny. Doesn’t make my hair oily, but of course doesn’t add any body either. For me the Melu really lives up to its claim: preventing split ends and breakage. My ends are way thicker and healthier than usual, so this is a repurchase for me.
I used to fear silicones, thinking they were so bad, but it looks like it’s what my super tangle prone hair truly needed.

Two years ago, a hairdresser girlfriend recommended this conditioner for my double-processed bleached blonde hair, and this has become my HG conditioner. I love that Davines uses natural ingredients, and their products always smell great. Melu is designed for long/damaged hair, and it really works. I usually put this on my ends and shafts, wait for 5-10 min, and wash it out. It makes my hair much softer, smoother, and stronger. I don’t even need to use this product every time I shampoo. Usually once a week or two is sufficient.
I ran out of this product 6 months ago and haven’t repurchased yet because it’s quite expensive – $30 CAD for 250 mL. Recently, I noticed that my hair is breaking more and more, and it seems more damaged and frizzy, so I decided to buy it again. Luckily, you can find a good deal on Amazon: 23£ for 1 L. Try it if you have long and damaged hair. You won’t be disappointed.

I love this conditioner!! Made my long hair easy to comb. Smooth hair and divine scent. I don’t care if its in a jar. It’s ecological thinking!! I can use the jar several times. I’m from Sweden so my English is not the best…

My newest stylist introduced me to Davines and shattered into tiny pieces my previous beliefs that salon products are no different from drugstore products. I have been using this conditioner for 7 months, in conjunction with the Solu clarifying shampoo. The shampoo is great, but this conditioner is nothing short of amazing. It makes my hair ridiculously soft and shiny without weighing it down in the slightest.
It’s also dirt cheap. That sounds weird, I know, considering that I paid $35 CAD for it at my local salon, which is about 7 times what you’d pay for a much bigger bottle of Garnier Fructis or the like. But I only need a fingertip amount to coat my very long hair, and my husband much less. In 7 months it has barely gone down. I expect this conditioner to last the two of us about 2.5 years, which is a little over $1 a month. There are cheaper sources online and I will probably buy it from there in the future, so it’ll be even more budget friendly. Plus, you know, it’s GOOD, unlike the Garnier.
However, I hate the smell. It’s sickeningly sweet. It works so well though that I would feel silly docking any points just for the smell.
