   I am the exception review. I use a stripping shampoo for oily hair that leaves my hair dry, crunchy with less curl. I bought this after trying and liking the Shea Moisture Superfruit conditioner and hair mask. As the name indicates, this is an oil-based conditioner that does not act like a normal creamy type conditioner. It does nothing for my hair’s texture short-term. It took about 3 weeks of using it to begin getting my curls back with noticeably smoother strands. So, when you first use it, it does not coat your hair in any way (no parabens to seal cuticles). It does not work great as a detangler, although once it’s worked into your hair, there is a lot of slip from the oils. It does not soften my hair short term. The softness I am now experiencing is from longer term use that develops over time, for me about 1.5 months. And there is still some texture now. If you want to soften it even more, it will likely take a different product used alternately. I do still apply a hair mask once a week to provide moisture.

   After 3 minutes in the shower, rinsing is also an odd experience with this product. You can tell/feel that the traditional creamy ingredients rinse out, but a coat of oil remains on your hair. My initial reaction was to want to keep rinsing and rinsing to get it out. But, don’t – that’s the good stuff remaining. It’s a fine line for me between not rinsing enough and rinsing too much. It seems that I usually rinse and squeeze out my fine 2B hair 3X before calling it done.

   The longer term results for me have won me over. My hair is not weighted by heavy smoothing ingredients, nor is it accumulating build up. My hair feels softer, has more bounce and actual body to it, and the curls have tightened up a bit. It does what most creamy coating conditioners could not seem to. I would say for most, this cannot be an all-in-one product, but used in conjunction with other conditioning products.

   Pros:
   -Scent (as mentioned before, a musky scent that is slightly fig-ish, with leather notes)
   -Price (under $10 for a 16 ounce bottle)
   -Effective product when not used as a long-term, all-in-one conditioner (provides noticeable added health without being heavy or even oily, if rinsed well)
   -Non-GMO with no parabens, sulfates, propylene glycol, or mineral oil and no animal testing

   Cons:
   -Works best with those who have naturally or chemical caused coarse/brittle hair, may not work well for those wanting smoothed, blown out hair without the added use of other products

   I would buy this product again, but since I don’t use it every time I shower, the 16 oz bottle will last a long time.

   I really wish I could give this a 1.5, because a 2 feels high but a 1 feels low?

   I’ve got incredibly damaged 3a hair and, as a conditioner, this wasn’t great for me. No matter what conditioner I’m using, I always leave it in for a few minutes before I detangle my hair and rinse it out, and I found that this product didn’t particularly help with detangling and, once that was done and it was rinsed out, it didn’t leave my hair feeling especially hydrated.

   I used this once, I wasn’t particularly impressed, so I didn’t bother using it again.

   HOWEVER, about 2 weeks ago I saw it sitting on my shelf, looking sad and lonely and going to waste, so I decided to try it again, this time as a leave-in conditioner on days that I don’t wash my hair. (On days that I do wash my hair, my go-to leave in is garnier’s legendary olive one). Basically, I wake up in the morning with my hair looking a mess, I spray it with water until it’s thoroughly damp, and then I use about a pea-sized amount of this (which is very easy to measure out thanks to the packaging of this product) and I scrunch it into my hair. After that, I just let my hair dry and my curls are back, they aren’t crunchy, and they’re actually a lot smoother and less frizzy than they were when I used this as a normal conditioner?

   So, as a leave-in, I love this but as a normal conditioner, which it is, I’m really unimpressed. It didn’t do anything terrible to my hair, but it also didn’t really do much at all.

   Still, I love that it’s silicone free (and free of a million other things, like all of Shea Moisture’s products are) and I hate seeing things go to waste and I’ve had great results with this as a leave-in, so I’m giving this a 2.

   Didn’t like this conditioner- it didn’t feel like it was really moisturizing at all. I love the Hair Masque from this line though! I use that as a conditioner.

   Like my review for the shampoo, I literally loved this stuff after the first use. Shiny, soft beautiful hair with a scent that I liked in the beginning which reminds me of Hillary duffs with love perfume.

   Now my bottles almost halfway gone but it doesn’t do a thing anymore. Not since the very first time I used it. Doesn’t detangle, make it shiny or soft. I think the first use was a fluke. But time after time, I’ve used it hoping for the incredibly beautiful hair again. Nope. And the smell is awful to me now. Makes me sick. It really lingers and just makes me unhappy. I’m gonna prob throw the bottle away, it doesn’t do squat for me, on to the next thing or possibly my HG loreal mega moisture conditioner you can find at sallys.

   I wanted to like this because I have and like the Masque version. It smells good – the same scent as the Masque – but it’s a total fail as a conditioner on me.

   My hair is thick, porous, long, and very prone to tangles. This conditioner does not provide enough slip for de tangling purposes, and it doesn’t seem to provide any hydrating properties. I had to use a lot, like 6 oz, and it still wasn’t de tangling my hair even though it has a thin consistency that makes it easy to work through hair. Using that much product for it to not do anything is a big waste of money for me, especially since you don’t get a lot of product and it’s a bit pricy for a conditioner (granted, it goes to fight poverty and has Manuka honey and stuff like that in it).

   I think if you have thick hair, you would be better off skipping this and going with the Masque version. I was really disappointed. The ingredients seemed so good, but the formulation didn’t work for my hair.

   I love the matching masque, so this was naturally on my list to try next. It has a musky, fig scent that some may love or hate. This has a bunch of slip and rinses out clean in the shower. However, I think it doubles as a great leave-in conditioner. It is hydrating and softening and my curls never look droopy or dull when I use it. The scent is strong so those sensitive may want to pass this one up. I am surprised this conditioner hasn’t had any reviews as I think it deserves a mention.
