I used this as a leave-in, and I absolutely loved it. You can really tell it feeds your hair…that said the price is ridiculous, and there are just as good products for less.

This is a review for the shampoo and the matching conditioner. Also, I have fine, thin, 3a curly hair.
To start off I’d like to say that I have only used this shampoo (and the matching conditioner) one time. However, one time was enough for this stuff to completely wreak havoc on my hair. I received a small sample of this, so luckily I didn’t have to pay the full EXPENSIVE price for this. Now on to the review.
This product has an extremely strong smell. I suppose it’s a bit herbal, but the scent also seems medicinal to me. And it doesn’t fade away. I had to drench my hair in coconut/argan oil to mask the scent.
The shampoo lathers up nicely which is rare for a natural shampoo. And it did get my hair clean. However, after rinsing, my hair felt like straw; dry and brittle. And I had a handful of hair fall out. I haven’t had this much hair fallout ever in my life before. It didn’t leave bald spots, but it was not normal and made me die inside a little.
I used the conditioner afterward. Immediately I didn’t like it. Same strong smell (obviously). But what bothered me is that as I was massaging it in, I didn’t feel like it was hydrating at all. I left it in for 5 minutes, hoping that would help. It did nothing but make my hair feel worse.
I do not recommend this line of product from John Masters.

My hair type:
2c waves with 3a ringlets when it is long. My hair is very fine and thin and I dye it so it is in a permanently damaged state. I have very hard water in my area so I have gone silicone and sulfate free to try and soothe my stressed out locks.
I grabbed this at my local super market 3 weeks ago because I had heard good things about things containing honey for haircare. I did not check the price before I bought it and got a nasty surprise when they rang it up. $23 dollars for a tiny conditioner, are you kidding?! But I decided to try it out anyway because the ingredients looked promising.
The Pros:
Unfortunately for me this was the best all natural conditioners I’ve ever tried, and I have tried a lot. The protein helped my ends feel more moisturized and my hair actually had slip for the first time since I quit using silicones. I actually got compliments on my curls which almost never happens!
The Cons:
Did I mention the price? If you have thick hair I would recommend you skip this because you will use it up in 3 uses and feel bitter. If your hair is not damaged I would also say to skip this because protein will only help hair that already has problems. It will dry your hair out if it is healthy.
Also I personally am not crazy about the scent but it doesn’t smell bad. It is more spicy and I like my hair products to smell clean. The sent lingers in my hair until it is dry but then dissipates so it isn’t a deal breaker.
I wish I hated this but it is doing a good job keeping my ends from splitting so I might have to keep this around.

Got a sample of this with my most recent John Master’s order. Hibiscus brings me back to days as a school girl frolicking around on my lunch breaks in Hawaii. The red flowers lined the playground. I was very interested in trying it because my hair is getting really long now, so it can get into terrible tangles with just organic conditioners.
I followed the instructions, shampooed, put it on for three minutes. Rinsed. My hair was oily the next day and would have been flat if I put it on my scalp. I want to try the JM peppermint detangler next and see if it doesn’t weigh my hair down (love volume in hair). The only reason I didn’t put it on my scalp is because John Masters insists on putting aloe in every single one of their hair products, which causes dandruff for a lot of people. All shampoos/conditioners with aloe in it, if put on the scalp, give me dandruff over time. This is a huge drawback to their hairline for me.
As for ordering from JM again, I highly recommend that you do not. They don’t accept returns on anything. Very shocked, and the only company I know with such a policy. Not good customer service, in my opinion. Buy from Whole Foods or Dermstore instead. I’ve tried multiple things from the line (lip product, antiox serum, rose cleanser, the original detangler, advocado conditioner), but nothing has been amazing. For instance, the Lip Calm was better than most, but still not better than the best (Pangea’s lip balms). That’s how I feel about all of their products. I know at least one product for everything that I’ve tried that outperforms it and that is also organic.

With an ingredients list that long, it’s no wonder it makes hair oily. I like products with a shorter ingredients list – less chance of something irritating or breaking me out and easier to pin down what is doing what if something goes wrong.

Got as a sample and it smelled great, worked beautifully on my recently highlighted middleaged hair (oily scalp, fine hair). I’ve had problems with buildup lately and this was very light and rinsed out nicely. This is my first experience with the brand and now I’d like to try their shampoos.

I tried a sample which lasted me for 3 uses and let me tell you something! This product is great! I only used it a few times and it was enough to make my hair much nicer! But keep in mind that my hair is fine and straight so I don’t know how well it works on other types.

Not my favorite John Masters product. While it didn’t weigh my fine hair down, it didn’t moisturize very well either. Love the ingredients, but for the price I expected better results. I am now using the cheaper and way better citrus and neroli condish and loving it.

i just LOVE this stuff. it smells delicious and works amazing. i have fine, oily at the roots, dry on the ends, long hair and this works beautifully. i hate that it is so expensive, nearly $30 for 4 oz, but when i look at my hair, it is so worth it. only thing is if i use too much, my hair turns greasy especially at the back of my neck. love that the ingredients are all natural too. this is the best conditioner i have ever found for my hair. everytime i try something else, i always come back to this.

im really into hair products and have tried loads, i wanted to go natural as i have a very sensitive scalp. this was lovely on my hair and made it feel silky after straightening but my scalp feels itchy, so the product is great but makes me itch so wont buy again

This stuff is amazing! I have fine thin hair that is about 2-3 inches past my shoulders. I use this once a week and my hair is softer and shinier and more full of body than it’s ever been with any other product I’ve used. It doesn’t weigh my hair down like other deep conditioners will either. It’s expensive, so I’m not so hot on that, but I’ll be repurchasing anyway.
