This review is a little bit extra sciencey, I’m a chemistry student and an amateur at home kitchen chemist, so I apologize for the wordiness, but I hope this can help someone. I’m writing it because I can help you understand whether or not this will work for you, even if you don’t have my hair type.
I highly reccomend to everyone to learn about the pH scale and what happens to our hair at different pH levels. I also reccomend you figure out your level of porosity because that’s the ideal way to determine how your hair will behave in any type of weather with any type of product.
Pros:
-One of my favorite leave in products because it’s amazing at detangling. I have thick, coarse, low-porosity curly hair (3A ish) that’s down to my butt. I don’t color or heat style, and I incur very minimal mechanical damage, which is part of why my hair is low-porosity. Part of how I ensure I don’t get mechanical damage is by using a very effective detangler each time I comb and this one is very superior. With a bad detangling product I can spend up to and hour combing my hair, with this, 10-15min.
-The behentrimonium methosulfate (not a sulfate in a drying way, don’t be afraid) and amodimethicone (only silicone which is water soluble, so it’s CG friendly) make it really good at detangling and at smoothing rough areas/higher porosity damage points such as at the ends, making the hair much more manageable. Both of these ingredients are quaternary cationic conditioners, meaning they temporarily “repair” hair (nothing can really, but some things create a temporary effect). That’s part of why they’re in almost every conditioner on the market, but what makes this unique is that it has both in really high concentrations, so it works better than most.
-cetyl and cetearyl alcohol are present in high concentrations. These are not drying alcohols, they’re literally the opposite, they’re very moisturizing
-very low concentration of proteins, minimizes build-up for those of us who are low-po, but may not be great for very high porosity/damaged hair because the damaged cuticle layer allows damage of the hair shaft’s inner proteins and adding some protein to hair like this can help prevent breakage
-small concentration of humectants. This is great for me in a low humidity environment like where I live because I lose less moisture in the drying process. *This would be bad for people with high porosity hair in high humidity environments, I would use something with a higher amount of glycerin or hydroxypropyltrimonium honey if that were me, or if you have high porosity hair and want to use it for it’s superior detangling properties, make sure you seal with something occlusive while your hair is ~70% wet. But I’m lucky in that I have low porosity hair, so this works even better for my hair in high humidity than in low humidity, I get defined, bouncy curls which stay looking like a haircare commercial (that bouncy shiny thing) all day long.
-Similar products: Kinky Curly Knot today has a lot of Behentrimonium Methosulfate also and Mixed Chicks Leave in Conditioner has Amodimethicone in high concentrations, this has both, so it works far better
-great Canadian brand, not owned by a parent company therefore not contributing to unethical business practices (that we know of). They also regularly state the pH range of their products, which those of us who understand how important this is, will really appreciate. For this one the range is between 4.2-5.8 which is slightly acidic (close to ideal, but curly hair is most manageable between 3.5-4, so most of us need a little more help than this).
Cons:
– Price per use, for those of us with a lot of hair it can get pricey to use regularly. For example, it takes me only 8 washes to use up the small 6oz size which costs $24.00 CDN. For me that’s $3.00 per application. Be aware if you’re on a tight budget and you have a lot of hair. Those with fine or short hair are luckier as always.
– Little concentration of oils (there are some, but they’re less than 1%) and there’s no high concentration of anything else occlusive. This is great for those with fine hair who don’t want it weighed down, but mine is thick and frizzy, so I always have to combine it with my homemade oil mix to make this a “complete” conditioner for my hair type.

HG status for me, I think this will end up replacing It’s a 10. I suggest trying out a sample size, and if you like it, purchase the large 33.8 oz bottle ($55) per ounce it is CHEAPER, works out to be $1.62. The 6 oz is $22 which works out to be a whopping $3.66 per ounce. So the liter is a good deal.
This makes my hair soft, controls frizz a bit, and controls my crazy wavy hair, which I love. Doesn’t way down my hair, I still have a ton of volume. Because it takes the waves out of my hair, which I appreciate, it may be too heavy for curly haired ladies that wish to keep their curls. I hate the smell. Goes away after a few hours, but this is not something I would use in front of my bf.
I plan on using this in my rotation of leave-in conditioners. After a shower I wait till my hair is 80% dry, then run a quarter amount of leave-in through my hair. I have long hair, if your hair is short you’ll need a tiny amount I expect a leave-in to make my hair softer, and reduce frizz a bit. This leave-in does all that, and it has powerful conditioners in the ingredient list. The top six ingredients are: Water, Behentrimonium Methosulfate, Cetearyl Alcohol, Cetyl Alcohol, Amodimethicone, Cetrimonium Chloride– ALL of these are excellent conditioners. The ingredient list then includes a ton of plant extracts which studies have shown don’t do much to condition hair. So I appreciate that the formulation includes the heavy duty conditioners at the top.
UPDATE: The scent fades away after a few uses, I’m not sure why this is, but I’m happy that it isn’t as strong.

Been using this for years, I had been just home kit dying my hair black for 5 years and decided on a change so had hairdresser strip as much as she could of black off(still had black ends…lol). Barbecue really dry after all that and this stuff makes it silky smooth! It is wonderful! I bought the huge one liter of this from Amazon and after a lot of years I’m still working on finishing it!(I have short hair and an undercut but I think even for someone with long hair, it would last awhile!)

In general, I like most AG hair products. However, this one was a fail for me. My hair condition is pretty healthy and strong, just a few professional foil highlights on the top of he head, so I do not need a heavy-duty conditioner. I like/prefer light conditioners and leave-in conditioners that if anything just detangle a few tangles I may get after shampooing (my hair is not as long as it used to be, it is about shoulder-length now, just touching the tops of my shoulders, actually). I have pretty decent luck with most ‘leave-in conditioners,’ as I do not need any serious moisture or hydration or anything. However, this AG Moisture and Shine Fast Food Leave In conditioner basically leaves me feeling like I used nothing on my hair. No detangling like I get with 99% of other conditioners, and I do not get any moisturizing nor shine, which, well, the product says right on the front of the product. My hair usually responds very well to such conditioners, so I do not know what this issue is for me here. I do keep this away from my roots and then I comb this through using a wide-tooth comb, or attempt to comb, as this does not detangle (which, it claims to detangle on the back of the product). Again, my hair only ever has a few slight tangles, that usually come out really easily. It does have a rather pleasant, clean light scent. But it does not do what it claims, at least not for me.

It overloaded my hair with protein, made it tangle, brittle, stiff and EXTREMELY DRY. I normally have thick defined curls. I now have brittle frizz. The worst conditioner I’ve ever used.

I have curly hair and this is my favourite leave in conditioner. I use it before mousse to detangle my hair and of course it smells amazing and doesn’t leave a nasty residue. Only complaint is price but i just stock up when I can.

Impressed! Since I’ve gotten older (43) the top layer of my hair is a mix of dry, frizzy, kind of wiry…basically my hair is aging. I have alot of fine hair, color and highlight and have tried multiple leave-ins, conditioning sprays, oils, gel, mousses to get it to look like healthy hair again. I picked up a small tube at Ulta and applied about a dime size on damp hair (collar length) and began noticing that my hair was looking great with minimal other products/styling and it wasn’t greasy or weighed down. It feels so much smoother and shiny, the top layer looks as healthy as short layers underneath. This is now my go-to product and I will definately rebuy!

I have long below bra strap length hair that’s thick, straight, dry and split-end prone and let me tell ya this product is amazing! I apply after towel drying and before blow drying. It leaves my hair moisturized and soft and with no tangles. No weighing down my hair or leaving it oily or sticky which I’ve found to be the problem with most leave in conditioners. I’m beyond impressed! Oh and it leaves my hair smelling delicious too! Love it!

I’m 60, and my hair is colored silver. It is very thick, and has become coarse. I hadn’t used a leave-in for years, and recently decided to use one again. I picked up the AG Fast Food at Ulta for $7.95 (sample size). I’m very impressed with it! It leaves my hair feeling smooth, soft, and hydrated even after blow drying and flat ironing. I have a strong natural wave, and use it along with Chi Straight Guard before I style. I finish with Aveda Brilliant Emollient Finishing Gloss. My hair looks like a sheet of silver ice! Beautiful! A definite re-purchase!

Love this stuff. It’s pretty simple. Easy to use. It makes my colored, highlighted hair much more soft and manageable. I bought this without knowing much about it, but loved it. I ran out and immediately bought the liter bottle of this. It’s really a great deal when Ulta has their sale on liters.
After washing and towel drying, I put this on my ends and other stying products towards the roots. It’s a dream product to me. Without it, my ends are much drier and coarse looking.
