   I use the cool dark brown and mix in some of the warm medium brown and let sit for 30 min when I take a bath about once every 2 weeks. My hair is a light/medium ashy brown with “silver highlights.” The ends get a bronzey color that would be pretty on somebody else but washes out my cool toned complexion. This product really works to equalize the color. The paradox is I need more of the warm brown at the ends or else the ends pull too ashy/gray toned. It blends the grays but doesn’t completely cover them, which is fine. But I do find for staying power (the color stays pretty consistent through 10-12 or so washes then starts to fade a bit at the ends) I need to leave it on 30 minutes. If you’re willing to use it more regularly you could probably leave it on less time. In addition to making my hair look more hint of sun and less “I spend a ton of time in chlorine all summer,” it also amps up the shine. I use an old pair of coloring gloves with this bc it definitely stains my hands if I don’t. The reason I gave 4 stars is because it feel like it could condition a bit more without weighing down my fine hair, but it’s nothing a drop or two of leave in oil can’t easily remedy when I rinse it out. People with super course hair may need more conditioning.

   I have Asian hair, which is naturally medium dark brown and in good condition. There is slight graying now, so I thought highlighting would be a good idea. I went too light and trashed the condition of my hair with the bleaching. Now my hair has to grow out, which will take years and have that line where the color stops.

   As a corrective measure, I’ve been using this conditioner gloss every other week. Since I was worried about getting my hands stained, I used long dishwashing gloves the first time, which was a hassle. Now I don’t bother with the gloves, so the stain makes my nails and hands look dirty. The nails shouldn’t be a problem if you use nail polish. Mostly, this means that I want to use the gloss on a day I won’t see anyone.

   I wash my hair in the shower, saturate it with this product, twist it up and use a clip so it stays off my skin. I stay in the bathtub waiting for at least 20 minutes before rinsing. After applying it, I scrub my hands with soap and do that again after rinsing. So, why do I bother?

   It works. It leaves my hair shiny, boosts the color and makes the line less obvious. Since the highlighted parts are more porous, they grab the color more so, overall, the color difference isn’t so sharp.

   I bought this gloss in the golden blond shade. I was hoping to add some subtle color to my highlighted hair to refresh the existing golden tone. But this gloss did absolutely nothing colorwise. I was skeptical to begin with because the actual color of this gloss is rather beige, not golden at all, so I didn’t see how it would any gold at all. It’s just a little more ivory colored than regular conditioner, so I should have foreseen the outcome. The instructions say to leave the conditioner on for 5-20 minutes. Because the conditioner wasn’t gold, I decided to leave it on for the full 20 minutes. It did make my hair really soft and glossy but it didn’t add anything in the way of color. My actual hair color did not look different at all. I have other conditioners that do the same thing so I see no need to spend another $30 for a conditioner when it doesn’t do what it’s supposed to do, namely add golden tones. I’m rating this product with three lippies because it is a really good conditioner but as far as its intended purpose, it’s a total fail, at least in the golden blond shade that is. I did read the limited number of reviews on the Sephora and Ulta websites and it appears that other colors definitely work. However, if you’re considering buying the golden blond shade, think again. Unless you just want a really good conditioner that will add considerable shine and aren’t concerned that this product doesn’t add color, they by all means go ahead and purchase it. But if you’re like me and want to refresh the golden tone of blond hair there are better products available. Tressa Watercolors shampoo in Golden Mist works great and the formula isn’t drying. It adds loads of golden sheen in about 5 minutes, easy peasy. Blond Brilliance Lathering Toner in golden (at Sally’s) is also great, isn’t drying and smells divine. Tinted shampoos are great for cleansing so use your regular shampoo first. The make sure the tinted shampoo is evenly distributed so you’ll get the most even results. As for the Dphue Gloss, I’m returning it to Ulta. I’m deeply disappointed in this product but should have gone with my gut instinct and passed it up when I realized it was beige rather than gold. This should have been a vital clue as to the likely outcome. Yes, it’s a great conditioner but there are plenty of other good ones that do the same thing so there’s really no need to spend $30 on one. I can’t recommend this shade but supposedly the other shades work well so if you’re a brunette or a redhead, you can use this gloss with more confidence. The reviews did say to be sure and use gloves with the darker shades, otherwise you may end up with stained palms. I had no such trouble with the golden blond shade because it’s not really saturated enough to cause an issue. I had such high hopes for this product but will return it and continue my search. For now, I’m happy with the two golden shampoos I mentioned which gives me plenty of color and shine.
