FDA Issues Safety Alert for Hair Conditioner

So I received a bunch of Wen products for Xmas from my mom, and the Cucumber Aloe Cleansing Conditioner was one of them. I got it in a sample size. I’ve read mixed reviews on Wen products in general, so I was reluctant to try Wen. A few showers later, I become obsessed with this product. It is by far the best conditioner I have ever used. It leaves my hair feeling really silky and moisturized. I don’t follow what Chaz says to do with this product – ignore him ha. What I do is I first wash my hair with my usual shampoo (Head & Shoulders). Then I use a little over a half dollar size of this stuff, and apply it pretty evenly from root to tip. Finally, I rinse the conditioner out. This conditioner really works wonders for me.

I like what Wen does for my hair, but you have to pick the right formula and use it correctly. I got a lot of the Cucumber Aloe because my hair gets oily in the scalp and dry at the ends in winter and that’s what this formula is supposed to work on. And it’s supposedly more “clarifying” than the other formulas.
In terms of comparison to Pomegranate, it is more clarifying. But if you use too much (more than the ping pong ball size I use for chin length hair) it is hard to rinse out. You HAVE to use cool water. It works better mixed with a bit of Tea Tree or any seasonal scent.
It does leave my hair amazingly soft compared to my regular shampoo (DHC Light and Moist or DHC Scalp Cleansing shampoo and the conditioners.) In winter especially, I do not get the static and flyaway dry hair.
The scent is a sort of herbal-vegetal scent with menthol–not the greatest. My favorite Wen is Tea Tree, which is more volumizing. Pomegranate left my hair way too moist and Almond Mint didn’t help it much. Mixed with Tea Tree, I get very clean, fluffy but soft and non-static hair.
I swim in summer and I have to wash hair every day when normally I don’t wash but every other day, so it’s not very drying and that’s great. I don’t get that stiff, ruined hair I used to as a kid when I swam–my hair would stand out like Bride of Frankenstein. This helps to remove chlorine and keep it soft. (I do color my hair.)
If you use JUST the right amount, spread it well with water, rinse with cool water and rinse until you don’t feel that slickness coming off, it works well but I think its clarifying effects are overstated.

I was lucky to get this from a friend who is an avid WEN fan. I guess I shouldn’t really rate the price because I got it for free. I used up a 8 oz bottle. Overall, it was OK. It made my scalp tingle and burn a little–I thought it was because of the menthol but that was not the case as the pomegranate version caused no problems. Also my roots would get greasy if I used the product more than three days in a row. I used the product based on the video instructions on QVC. I think I used the wrong type for my hair because I did much better with the pomegranate. Luckily the cucumber aloe was a small size; I wouldn’t buy it.

Quick Note about “OverConditioning”: I’ve been reading some of the reviews. The description of mush and hair falling out. These are signs of over conditioning. Basically, if you have these symptoms, stop using it. Don’t use the product every day.
I hope that the HairOne is as good as this. I have mid back length, very wavy hair. The biggest issue for me is volume and frizz control (especially in the summer). This doesn’t do much for me as a cleanser, so I just use it as a conditioner. Plus, this way I don’t go through the product as fast. My hair looks like Elaine’s from Seinfeld – during the good seasons when it was all dark and shiny.
Also, it smells so good. As one with allergies, the mint is soothing to my sinuses. As one who struggles with insomnia, the scent is also relaxing.
I think this might be a bit much for those with fine or oily hair. For that, I understand the negative reviews. I’d recommend trying the little 2 ounce samplers on Ebay first.

So I bought this about a year ago and {stupidly} signed up for the automatic shipments through Guthy Renker. At first it was great! I loved the sweet almond mint cleansing conditioner. It made my hair super soft and it stayed clean for about two days before getting greasy. Then I switched to the cucumber aloe and I had the same great results. However, I seemed to run out of this stuff quickly because it took many pumps to adequately cover and cleanse my hair, and it was tough knowing when my hair was thoroughly rinsed. If you are looking for something that sudses up nice and gets your hair squeeky clean then this is definitely not for you. With all the sulphate free products out on the market now, as well as cleansing conditioners that are comparable to Wen, it is tough to justify spending $90 on this stuff. Granted, this got you what they claim is a 90 day supply, this never lasted me 90 days and that was when I had above-the-shoulder hair. After receiving a few of my shipments, I started getting charges on my debit card that I did not verify. These were not charges for shipments either, just random charges from Guthy Renker. When I called them to dispute the charges they told me to fax my bank statement to them and they would refund me no problem. Okay fine. So I tried faxing my bank statement and guess what? The fax number didn’t work. The fax absolutely would not go through and when I called them again about the issue they said that was the only way I could get my money back. Needless to say, I cancelled my membership right there and deactivated my debit card. TERRIBLE customer service! If you want to try this stuff, I would recommend first going to Sally Beauty and trying the Hair One cleansing conditioner. It is an exact dupe for Wen and gave me the exact same results. If you HAVE to try the name brand Wen product, PLEASE don’t get it through Guthy Renker, and spend the extra money getting it from QVC or elsewhere. The automatic shipments are a scam and I lost money because of it. Luckily, there are shampoos and conditioners that you can buy either from the salon or the drugstore that will make your hair just as healthy/soft/shiny whatever you want, so I will never be buying Wen again. I still have a bottle, but have only been using it to bath my yorkie in and it has made his fur the silkiest it has ever been. Still, I use probably half the bottle to thoroughly clean my 7 pound dog so the cost is NOT justified.

My hair was severely bleached damaged, and i saw this on a commercial, so I thought i’d try it out, i was shocked by the results people got on tv. Lmfao. Didn’t get them results myself. It made my hair fall out, and turned it to mush, it was damaged, but not that bad before when it was wet, all i had to do was touch it and it would all come out in my hands. Maybe it was too rich for my hair… but my hair usually does take anything. Cause it’s so damn thick… Plus the price was outrageous. Not worth the money if I’m honest, people in the uk don’t have the us other version of this which i’ve heard is way cheaper :/ Sad really. But honestly. I know this won’t apply to everyone cause of different hair textures, but it could send someone with fragile bleached hair into a worser state…

So far this method of hair washing has done absolutely nothing for my fine hair.
Im thinking of sending it back to tvsn.
Also i have to tip my head forward in the shower to use it as its soooo pepperminty im scared if i let it run down my back, it will burn my crack!
Dont waste your money. You can CO your hair with a cheap silicone free conditioner for less than $5.

I love this for my baby fine hair. I have always washed my hair every day and still do, but this makes my hair really clean and conditioned. I have a funky short hairdo and I use a lot of hair products. This stuff dissolves it instantly. I have naturally dark blonde hair that I dye red. I used to have to color it every couple of weeks because red fades so fast. Now I only have to do it every 4-6 weeks which is amazing!! I also only use about a fourth of what the bottle says to. FYI I tried the sweet almond mint and it worked great and gave me more body than this one but it made my head itch like crazy a few days after I started using it.
