I have 2C/3A curls with medium density and high-ish porosity (takes ages to get wet and ages to dry) with some heat damage.
At first I LOVED this stuff, for starters it smells HEAVENLY, really great fragrance that makes me happy to smell my hair and towels after I shower. But i’m starting to realise that it isn’t terribly high quality (duh, for the price I couldn’t expect more). So for starters the slip isn’t amazing. It isn’t awful either but it makes detangling rather unpleasant. What I’m noticing is that it seems to leave a weird film??? For example, I will put the tiiiiniest amount on my hands and immediately my hands feel coated in this weird…layer? It’s hard to describe, it just feels not how a good moisturising conditioner should. And if I put that tiny amount in my hair for a leave in, it feels like way too much and my hair automatically feels a little weighed down which is really confusing—I wish I could explain this better.
Over time I believe it’s also started to make my hair drier, gradually my wash days have become more frustrating. My first few were great, and this conditioner helped me focus more on technique, which I’m grateful for. But now that my hair is more limp and unhappy, the issue of products has been brought to the forefront of my mind. At first I thought it was the LA Looks gel which was making my hair weird (I still think that stuff isn’t all that amazing) because when my curls would dry they would get all caught up with each other. Like if I lifted one clump it would have all these lost strands that were connecting it to other clumps, making my hair poofier and undefined, also giving me more tangles. I will probably no longer use this.
There are lots of GIS does for drying your hair on the fly (now that is a bonus), I have decided that my hair was NOT DOOR DIED where it should not.

It’s very frustrating being told that I can always mix as much moisture as I want to mix it. They say there are forms of moisturising the non-saturated oils of a shampoo which soften down your hair but when you add a touch of hair drying agents (I don’t know, like a hair conditioner…?) you lose your shine and go dry. Ugly? Maybe. Slightly tacky? Kidding, okay. You can’t tell me I will now add even more stuff—i have tried some different things as well. I really do need to give everything a try. I am well aware that GIS can sometimes cause further drying problems as you can see, but there is no huge issue here, just no consistent difference. The problem is in applying gel. Remember that there is no obvious difference as to how much gel you should apply; i mean as much as what I can use it with without getting water or irritation. So for the most part I have been using the Coase products (like it or NOT), with a loose gel after application; gel after and gel after with applied combing, hair started to dry faster (as expected). The home improvement ones in particular give me an idea as to how long it should be; so with Coase and a wider range of gel on a regular basis I can apply exactly as hard as I want without bumping up my hair or drying it all out with rubbing alcohol (a regular cleaning chemical). I’ve had to follow this method in different ways, but basically the way a gel is applied depends on the strain I use it on and how much I know about gel washing as well as my durability. Perhaps this is why since I use a lot of my hair gel on drying all sorts of situations, I often dont wear myself out this way and I dont have to wait this long to apply different products; however. And actually looking at the data on this page, i think this does do wonders to enhance the longevity of the conditioner as well as also a lot of other products which have even less formula available to me. From my experience, you want the water which I use on ‘rich’

Baby’s first cowash! This is dirt cheap and widely available which makes it perfect for trying out the silicone free Curly Girl method. I’ve been silicone free for a few months now and have tried out a few different cowashes but I keep coming back to this. It’s very very light when it comes to moisturizing so don’t rely on it for that — you’ll 100% need a leave-in and probably gel too — but I really love how well it cleans my scalp and roots. As long as I’ve got a tub of this in my shower, I don’t get any product buildup, which is more than I can say for any of the other cowashes I’ve tried. Solid B+ conditioner at a D- price.

I like this conditioner because it is silicone free. It moisturizes pretty well and leaves my hair smooth and silky. It does seem to make my hair feel heavier and built up after prolonged use. The bottle design isn’t great…very smooth and slippery and it constantly falls out of my hand in the shower.

I bought this because I liked their original silicone free conditioner for diluting hair dye. I stopped using it for that purpose and it ended up discontinued when I looked again. But I remembered it being pretty good as a conditioner and I also was curious if I should stop using silicone. So I found this. I thought it would be similar, because it was silicone free, and it also seemed creamier and rich (there’s two I think, I got the coconut one). I liked it on the hair and at first. However, after a few uses I didn’t think it was that great. I felt like a few days after washing I got more tangled and felt drier than I would expect. I tried using a different shampoo (but ones I have used before so I knew it wasn’t just them) and it kept happening but didn’t when I used my old silicone conditioner. I ended up giving it to my kids to use but honestly I don’t think it’s that great even on their hair. So it’s a pass from me.

I’ve purchased this conditioner several times and I’ve never been happy with it. Most importantly, I don’t find it to be moisturizing at all. If anything, it only makes my hair feel more dry than when I started. I also have a lot of trouble detangling with this. Even though it is a fairly thick conditioner, it doesn’t really have any slip. I would not recommend this if you have dry curly hair. TREsemme has a lot of other conditioners that are much more moisturizing.

I’m using the coconut milk conditioner as a cowash. It’s CG-and-budget friendly & easily accessible (my local Kroger) it has a good slip & doesn’t leave my hair dirty.

I wanted to make sure I got a silicone free conditioner. I don’t have a problem with silicones, in fact they can be great for some hair, or at certain times.
It is a bit tricky to find a reasonably priced product. I checked a lot of labels and decided to try this new one. So far it works pretty good. Not super moisturizing,so 4 lippies, but the directions do say to concentrate on ends and mid shaft of hair and leave on a few minutes. Price is amazing, especially on sale, and large size. Which leads me to packaging, 4 lippies, because the bottle would be great with a pump or an indented area to grab. It is very slippery when wet and not at all small hand friendly.
The other thing is I can make my own color depositing conditioner, by adding drops of semi permanent hair color to it before I apply this to my hair. That can be done with any conditioner or shampoo you like but I don’t want any silicone to build up.
Overall I am pleased with this purchase. Update: Since using this a few more times I have to agree with others that the fragrance is quite strong and may be too much for some.

I like it! The scent is strong and lingers, but isn’t unpleasant to me. I use this conditioner as a CoWash. It has nice slip and adds shine to my hair. I will buy it again.

This is part of their new line. I was actually looking for another type for curly hair that I read mixed reviews about but found this instead as they discontinued one of their lines.
I had high hopes for this because I generally read good things about Tresemme conditioners from women of all races but after using this I have to admit I was a little disappointed at first. The smell was great, the consistency nice and thick, it lathered pretty decently, I was able to use a nice generous amount…my hair felt a bit soft and after leaving it for 10 minutes I was able to detangle. I’m not 100% sure but the amount you get for the price you pay is great.
Update: I’ve been using this for maybe 2 months now and I’m not a fan. It changed my hair quality and also left it very dry causing me to have to use a lot of leave in afterwards. The only reason I didn’t stop using it immediately was because it had such great slip and detangled my hair so well that I started to think it was my leave in changing my hair. But once I stopped using it and only this conditioner my hair became even worse.
