First off I only tried this in a small sample packet & the ingredients listed here for the surfactant are wrong they changed it to gentler surfactants ! But regardless it made my skin kinda dry & I have pretty oily skin that’s also sensitive!& I would never buy this cleanser Bc it has lots of irritating plant ingredients in it & menthol & camphor! & it’s expensive too !Just read beautypedia review on it ! I did like that this cleanser is pretty much fragrance free but it does have a pleasant scent Bc of the chamomile & tea tree in this & it did smell like my Clinique mild liquid soap Bc of the chamomile in it & it did clean my oily skin well but it left it a bit dry!

Dermalogica clearing skin wash is the first step in the Medibac Clearing line. It’s a bit generic as facial washes go, Dermalogica like to add a lot of bells and whistles to their cleansers, which for me is silly as cleansers are on the skin for only a minute or less, hardly enough time for active ingredients to penetrate and do their magic.
Also many of the facial cleanser designed for acne and breakout prone skins tend to have irritating, unnecessary ingredients like menthol and camphor which this cleanser does contain, albeit if lesser amounts than their Dermal clay cleanser, wait for that one in my next review.
There is a smattering of plants extracts and botanical ingredient in this but nothing special, Tea trea oil is it’s main scent is definitely noticeable when rinsing.
This cleanser is low foaming yet does clean quite well, you would only need a small amount lathered in wet palms then massaged over face, neck and chest, rinse thoroughly, Dermalogica recommend this as your second cleansing step as you would be using this after their Pre-cleanse, a great effective makeup remover that you use on dry skin, then emulsify with water then rinse.
I would not repurchase this as you can find many gentle water soluble cleanser without irritating ingredients at a much lower price, often at your local drugstore or pharmacy. Many Dermalogica skin therapists I have noticed don’t always let their clients use this cleanser, even if they have breakout prone skin, they let them use it for a while, then revert them back to Special cleansing gel as it can be quite drying.

I’ve been using this for about two months and so far I am really enjoying this cleanser. I didn’t think I’d go back to foaming cleansers but the summer heat always brings out the shine and potential breakouts, so for the warmer months I tend to need something a little stronger than my go-to Neutrogena Extra Gentle Cleanser. This cleanser contains 0.5% salicylic acid, which is gentle enough for daily use without causing irritation. My skin feels nice and soft and not tight after using this, unlike with other foaming cleansers that strip the skin’s acid mantle and leave my skin feeling wrecked. The plant extracts in this cleanser make my skin feel calm and soothed. I have barely had any breakouts since I began using this, so it must really agree with me. It’s not cheap, however. I paid around $60 for 500ml, but it will definitely last me a year if not longer.

I️ have sensitive acne prone skin. This product felt nice at first, leaves a tingly feeling which made me feel like it was working on killing my acne. It sure what ingredient bothered me but it made my acne worse and my face became very red. Discontinued this and went back to my old products to heal my skin.

I’ve only been using Dermalogica Clearing Skin Wash for about a week, but so far so good! Gel cleansers typically make my dehydrated yet oily skin feel tight and uncomfortable, so I was pretty nervous about using this one, since it’s formulated to target acne so it was bound to be extra drying.
However, I’m pleasantly surprised with the Clearing Skin Wash so far! It leaves my skin feeling very clean without stripping it completely of moisture. Not a huge fan of the scent, but I can deal with it. Will update this review once I’ve used this cleanser for a month or so!

I want to preface this review by saying that both my sister and I suffer from hereditary hormonal cystic acne in our 20’s. My sister is an aesthetician who was trained using Dermalogica products while she was in aesthetics school. She found the products to be of high quality and effective on her own acne prone skin. Therefor, when she graduated and went on to work in skin care salons, she was only interested in working for locations that used Dermalogica products.
Due to my sister’s ~connections~, she often gives me samples to try or excess product from her personal stash. I have tried a multitude of cleansers for acne, both Dermalogica and not.
I used to use Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel everyday twice a day with fairly good results. However, once I tried this cleanser, it replaced my Special Cleansing Gel. My acneic skin needed an additional method of exfoliation in the morning and at night and this does the trick.
Now, I wash my face every morning with this. At night, I use Dermalogica Precleanse to take off my makeup and cleanse my skin of dirt. Once I rinse that off, I follow it up with Skin Clearing Wash. It is both gentle and strong enough to help me combat my oil and tendency to get clogged pores.
Since trying this cleanser, I have repurchased it several times over. I have probably been using it for at least two years and I have no reason to look for a replacement. Dermalogica is a great company! The only reason I took off two lippies is the price, but I find that it really is worth the cost.

I have to write this review to help others avoid terrible result as I have been through last 3 months.
My skin was oily, but smooth (thanks to SKII), sometimes it has acnes, few and occasionally but I hate it. So I decided to use this product – Dermalogica Clearing Wash + PreCleanse. With all the review and reputation of this brand, I expected this couple will help me never see acne again.
After I used it, for the beginning, ance hadn’t come up. Skin was quite smooth n clean. Then soon after a while, acne started to grow, and grow, and growwww…
At first few weeks, I calmed myself down by the belief that: “maybe it helps hidden acne grow out of skin, then kill it, then acne will never appear again”. So I keep using it, with the belief that an acne cleanser will help reduce the acne, but NO, ABSOLUTELY NOT, THE SITUATION JUST GET WORSE N WORSE N WORSE..
You can”t imagine how destroyed my face had been. I had to go to see doctors, take medicine, do treatment, etc. till now is 3 months treatment, and stopped using that product for 2 months (yeah, I was so stupid keep using that, then until I stopped, the acne also stopped growing more, then I understand that is surely because of this product that my skin became shit) , a lot of SKII (Clear Lotion + Essence + Cellumination Serum + Mask), then my skin recovered 80%.
So, my lesson learned is:
1. If your skin is combination to oily, but sensitive & non break-out much, don’t ever use the couple Clearing Wash + Pre-cleanse. It’s super dry & causing u hell lots of troubles.
2. Anything you suspect causing problem for your skin, no matter how expensive it is, stop using it immediately, or you will pay times much more than that to fix the consequences.
3. Don’t rely on reputable brands & not all expensive products are safe for you. Get the sample and be very careful for whatever putting on your face, or you will regret it in vain (just like i do).

I have been using this product for a few months faithfully everyday and it does help in controlling acne. Apart from that It dried my face up quite a bit so if you pair it with a good quality face moisturizer after cleansing it should help with the dryness. Quite expensive so use a small amount, that may also help with not over drying the skin.

This cleanser will help with acne but use it sparingly. If you aren’t excessively oily it WILL dry you out. For best results couple this cleanser with a gentle cleanser like cetaphil and use them every other day to keep some balance to your skin. Otherwise your skin may get too dried out causing rebound acne.

I have combination skin which gets very oily in certain areas. It is also dehydrated though. I have mild acne which I had hoped this cleanser would clear up. It didn’t and also completely stripped my skin of any natural oils. It made my skin very, very dry which in turn made my skin produce more oil. Could not wear makeup after using it as it gave me severely dry patches. Very uncomtortable cleanser which I think is only suited to people with severe acne.
