I’m a bit of a John Masters junkie; I have tried about 30 of his products all in all, only 8 of which I currently use. This Rose facial wash is one of them. I have been using this for years and I absolutely love it.
Pros:
1. It is gentle! After using this, my skin is left nice and happy instead of tight and dry. The base ingredient is aloe which is more gentle and moisturizing than water. I believe this is what helped with my acne. I had previously used products labeled for acne-prone skin (because that’s what you think you should do when you have acne), until I tried this one, and my acne reduced to just a few blemishes per month. That’s when I realized that my acne was due to my sensitive skin getting irritated by harsh facial washes. When skin gets too dry, it starts producing more oil to compensate, which produces acne, and when you use harsh acne products that dry out the skin, it just continues the vicious cycle. So if you have acne and nothing else has worked, try this facial wash. It just might work for you.
2. It cleans effectively. This alone is enough to remove light makeup like a dab of concealer and face powder. (For heavy makeup, I use a cotton ball soaked in plain olive oil and just press it onto the makeup for a few seconds to break it down. Then I wash everything off with the JM rose wash.)
3. It has just the right amount of lather. I find it hard to use washes that don’t lather at all, but I don’t want them to create an ocean of foam on my face. This product provides just the right amount of lather for me.
4. It’s very lightly scented from the natural rose component. Sometimes I can barely even smell it! Heavily scented products have always bothered me so this is a major plus.
5. Reasonably priced. I think this works better than many products that are more expensive and have ingredients of lesser quality. It is slightly more expensive than drugstore facial washes, but then again no drugstore facial wash has ever worked for me. So I think this is a good deal for such a high-quality product.
Cons:
1. The pump does not lock! This makes it impossible to travel with. I once tried to push down the pump (wasting product in the process) and twisted the pump to get it back into the locked position. I thought that had solved the problem, but when I reached my travel destination and opened my toiletry bag, the bottle had leaked. So, learn from my mistake: don’t even bother. Just pump some of the product into a small travel-sized bottle (0.5 oz is enough for 2 weeks). I wash the bottle out before using it again. It’s a bit of a hassle but I have learned to live with it, plus the 0.5 oz bottle is much easier to travel with compared to the 4 oz JM bottle.
2. It comes in a glass bottle. I personally don’t mind, and in fact I quite like the glass bottle, since it looks very elegant on my countertop. It’s more eco-friendly too. But this is surely going to be annoying for people who like to wash their faces in the shower.

I just wanted to add a review to let others know that this has recently been reformulated, just in case some people are making decisions about whether or not to buy based on the reviews of the old formula.
The main ingredient is now aloe vera, not water. It foams a lot more and it does a better job of getting rid of makeup. It’s quite a runny, clear texture so you don’t need much to get a decent amount of slip and lather.
This is meant for normal to dry skin, but I’ve had no issues using it on my normal/combination skin which is prone to acne in the t-zone. I use it because most foaming cleansers have sulphates which dry me out, but this one doesn’t. It doesn’t add oil either, it just seems to add water/ hydration and it leaves my skin comfortable rather than tight. I am starting to think that combination skin products just don’t work on me because they always leave me dry, even with more natural brands such as Pai/ Ren / Elemental Herbology.
I use it alone in the morning and with a clarisonic at night to remove makeup, and am happy with the results as my skin is feeling clean, comfortable and less congested.

This used to be my HG, and I may buy one day again. I got tired of the smell and the glass bottle. The glass bottle makes it near impossible to take it into the shower, and I cracked it once because I did. Still, I bought it again because that’s how much I loved it. The reason I stopped purchasing was because I really loved my REN Mayblossom cleanser. It balanced my skin and has no scent really, comes in a plastic bottle. The scent for this John Masters cleanser is very pleasant, but I just don’t feel like smelling roses every day. I’d much prefer something like Fresh’s rose mask that I can apply once a week. I really like gel cleansers though. They go on easy, cooling, and always get everything. Compared to my two favorite cleansers Ren Mayblossom ($32) and Fresh’s Soy ($38), it is very reasonably priced at just over $20.
Pros: decent price, pleasant smell, cleans well, very gentle, great ingredients, gel texture
Cons: glass bottle

I looooove this product and how the base ingredient is aloe vera juice coz if you are gonna pay this amount of money you better not get water as the base ingredient. For the cleansing part it’s perfect for me as I don’t usually wear makeup, only sunscreen, not too drying and no uncomfortable tightness afterwards. When I do wear makeup I would use a cleansing oil first and it removes the oily residue too. This is a very low-foaming cleanser so if you like really foamy consistency you probably won’t like this one. The rose smell is gorgeous! Not too overwhelming, which reminds me of Jurlique Rosewater. The only thing I dislike is the size, so frickin small, almost like a trial-size! Please make bigger bottles.

This is a new favorite for me. It doesn’t leave my skin feeling stripped or squeaky clean, but completely fresh. I’m not in love with the smell, but it doesn’t bother me either.
It’s a great complement to my prescription retin-a cream, as the retin-a leaves my skin feeling vulnerable.
My skin looks bright and feels supple all day long.
A small pump (the size of a chickpea) lathers beautifully on my facial brush.
My husband and I both use it and love it!

It’s gentle, smells nice and not drying but is not effektiv and too expensive (the bottle is smal). It doesn’t give me a fresh feeling eithe.

I was excited to try a cleanser that’s organic, but I should’ve use some common sense before using this. It’s a foaming wash and for someone who has dry skin like me, it’s a bad idea to use anything that foams to wash my face. This cleanser comes out in a liquid form. The smell is a bit herbal, but it doesn’t bother me. What bothers me the most is that it dries up my skin to the point where it’s flakier than it already is. I also don’t recommend this product for sensitive skin. I have sensitive skin and I noticed that there are a few red spots around my nose and chin areas after using it twice.

I don’t understand the hype about this product. It’s gentle and has many pure ingredients. I also think it does an ok job on cleansing off makeup leftovers. The smell of roses is not bad, it’s very discrete, but it doesn’t give me a fresh feeling either. It’s always better if it has less or no perfume though. A little product goes a long way, consistency is watery and can be made into foam. The bottle really sucks! It’s made out of dark brown glass so if it falls on the bathroom floor it will probably break. It looks like something from an old pharmacy. It’s always a plus that it has a pump, but it’s leaking soap all the time and I can’t lock it if I want to bring it with me on travels (?). The bottle is small and the amount of product that you get for the price you pay is too small. I think you pay more for the luxurious glass bottle, rather than the ingredients. It can’t be that expensive to produce compared to other facial soaps on the market, not even because of the pure ingredients. All in all, it’s a good product, but too expensive for a soap that you use twice a day. I’d rather spend extra money on a good moisturizer.

This feels so luxurious. The rose oils in it really burst through and the smell is authentic, not a cheap rose smell. I was surprised that a little bit produces a gentle lather that actually works to remove all my makeup. My face feels clean and soft after, not irritated and dry. It has a thin, watery consistency and is very soothing. I look forward to trying other John Masters products. I found my bottle at Wholefoods and I think I will try the toners next.

I have re-purchased the entire line. A first in my fifteen years of buying skincare. The face wash is my favourite out of the products I use. It is nicely balancing and cleans very well. I have sensitive, combination skin and this does not dry my skin and helps with cleaning out pores. The only caveat I have is I HATE the pump top. Mine leaked even when I re-closed it and I have had to exchange another for a totally broken pump. Kind of disappointing when your face wash only lasts a month because it kept leaking while I was travelling. With that said I still give this product a five thats how much I love it. I just don’t put it in the shower and bought travel bottles!
