   Ingredients-wise and conceptually, this is very similar to the Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish, which I also love. But truly, I think my skin may like this one even more. Surprisingly it cleans and leaves the skin feeling both fresh and hydrated (or not stripped at any rate), in just the same manner as the Liz Earle does for me, and is even more gentle at removing eye makeup while still being (for me), just as effective at doing so along with face makeup and seeming to cleanse and treat my skin.

   I really believe in the power of rose-made things for my skin in calming redness and balancing the effects of hormones on my skin. At least it has worked so far at least for me, and for those who find the refreshing effects and cleansing effects of the Eucalyptus/Rosemary actives (regardless of your skin type: oily-very dry, we can all be sensitive to any one thing or another) found in the Liz Earle Hot Cloth Cleanse and Polish, this may be a similar but more mild and gentle, but just as effective alternative. I’d venture that maybe if skin is nonsensitive or non reactive to both sets of extracts those with oilier skins may prefer the cooling effects of the Liz Earle while drier skins may be even further soothed and calmed by the Ren, but both are gentle and effective enough and work well for me. I do like the hormone balancing effects of rose and the scent of rose much better than the Eucalyptus (also the smell in the REN seems to me to be a lot lighter/less noticeable than the Liz Earle) for me the REN has barely any fragrance, and while the Liz Earle did not overpower my nose or irritate my skin with its scent (I don’t think) the REN, again, seems more gentle in this arena too. Love both and want to continue assessing both, but now, I may repurchase this REN over the original Liz Earle hot cloth popular favorite.

   It’s okay, no great shakes.

   I love the smell of rose but this wasn’t a very nice one; a bit artificial and not as outrageously strong as I’d hoped either!

   Takes a bit of work to rub in and then work to buff off with my hot cloth. Doesn’t melt in like other balm cleansers.

   It’s adequate, and I love balms and hot cloth cleansing, so it’s better than no balm at all.

   Not hideously expensive but feels overpriced to me.

   SUMMARY
   I’ve had better. And I’ve had cheaper.

   This is an excellent cleanser. I have used it for roughly the past year and haven’t found anything that works as well. It is a hot cloth cleanser so you have to keep that in mind when using it – you can’t expect it to work like a regular sudsing or foaming cleanser. This works best for me when I massage the cleanser into slightly damp skin (it is very thick so damp skin helps it spread a bit better), let it sit for a few moments while I thoroughly dampen the cloth with warm water, then lay the warm cloth over my face for a min & then use it to wipe/rinse off the cleanser. The cream rinses of easily & cleanly with no sticky or oily residue left behind. I find that it does remove all my makeup with ease (except mascara but that is because I wear waterproof or tubing mascara so I take that off w/ dual phase remover) and leaves my skin feeling very smooth & hydrated, never tight. I haven’t broken out or anything from this either.
   The pump bottle packaging could be a pro or a con, depending on your preference. A full pump gives you about a nickel sized amount of thick cream – I generally find 1-2 pumps is enough to clean my entire face. It is a very hygienic way of packaging as no air gets down into the pump to dry it up before you can use it & it travels pretty well – however a tube would probably work just as well w/o so much plastic packaging. The cloth that comes with it is actually very nice & soft & quite good quality – not the flimsy little see through cloths that similar products often have. Ren is also cruelty free, which is nice since it can be hard to find high quality cruelty free skincare.

   Overall, the only real con I have about this is the scent – it has a quite strong florally rose fragrance and I tend to be quite sensitive to scents. Fortunately the smell doesn’t linger on your skin once you rinse off the cleanser and isn’t too overly cloying but it is something to keep in mind. Also it is on the pricier side but not terribly expensive, given how little you need to use to clean your face properly.

   This was a reasonably good hot cloth cleanser from Ren, but there are too many downsides to it for me to consider repurchasing:

   1. The scent of this is way too florally for me – it’s an overpowering scent of rose, which actually put me off reaching for it when it came time to do my evening skincare routine.

   2. The bottle this comes in is useless! The pump is so weak it really struggles to dispense any product at all and the bottom of the bottle is sealed, so you can’t take it off in order to reach the mechanism inside and push it up to help it along the way. Anyone suffering with arthritis/weak hands would struggle to use this – it literally took all my strength to get anything out!

   3. I found I had to have my water REALLY hot in order to remove this completely from my face. If the water was warm or tepid, this stuff stuck around and ended up leaving my face feeling greasy and unwashed. And as anyone with sensitive skin will tell you, it doesn’t like or appreciate REALLY HOT water.

   For £16.00 for 150ml (5.1 fl oz) I can think of better cleansers, hot cloth ones or not, that do a better job than this one. And they don’t come in useless, fiddly, unusable packaging either! If you want my advise, spend your money on The Body Shop’s Camomile Sumptuous Cleansing Butter instead – it costs £13.00, lasts for ages and comes in a tin with a screwtop lid. Easy to use and very effective!
