I was sucked into buying this when I went in to buy the moisture surge moisturiser. Normally, I much prefer to buy online because not only the offers tend to be better but also that way I avoid the grating sales assistant people who bore me with all the marketing hokum. Sometimes, however, they do manage to convince me to buy stuff I wasn’t planing to!
I went to the Clinique counter because my skin was suffering due to having recently started using a retinoid (hormonal acne). The moisturiser I was using wasn’t cutting it. Then I tried a richer one which was too rich and made me breakout. So I thought of getting the moisture surge as it seemed like a good option. I had not used Clinique products in a very long time.
I don’t even like wipes, however, since my skin was sensitive at the time I thought I’d give them a try (instead of using cotton pads and micellar water before cleansing with a gel). The seller told me these wipes are very gentle and can be used on the eyes. As soon as I opened the packet I realised they smelled strongly of alcohol. Upon inspecting the ingredients I noticed these contain a lot of alcohol and a lot of witch hazel. To top it off, it says on the packet they shouldn’t be used on the eyes. I was not happy with this, but was out of makeup remover so I thought I’d use them anyway, knowing that if they upset my skin I would get a refund. I wish I had just returned them straight away, however.
These wipes were recommended to me as makeup removing wipes, however they are marketed as ‘prepping wipes’, whatever that is! The wipes removed light makeup ok but a second cleanse was definitely needed every time. These worked ok for a few days but then started to irritate my skin and leave it dried out. Sure, my skin is more sensitive at the moment due to the retinoid, but I still wouldn’t recommend these to anyone. Moreover, the wipes started drying a bit after a few days. I would imagine towards the end of the packet, the quality of the wipes would be compromised considerably.
I liked that they were fragrance free and the size was quite good. I also liked the pink packaging. But that is all. I think these are more a gimicky product. I don’t think they’d clean heavy or even medium makeup that well, hence why they are marketed as a prepping product for the mornings or before makeup. I believe in the morning most people just wash their faces.
I really don’t have experience of wipes, but I can say I didn’t like these and found them irritating and drying. They are also quite expensive for what they are.

These swipes are a thorough morning face refresher that removes dirt and oils which accumulate during the night. They add moisture as they cleanse. I don’t think they are meant to be makeup removers, however, in a couple of pinches I used them as makeup removers between makeup applications, and they worked beautifully. For me, these wipes work as a standard, classic toner, and I do love toner. They get skin in the best possible state before it has to be slathered with sunscreen, makeup, perspiration, pollution, puppy kisses…you name it. I wish my wipes were a bit more moist because if they were I wouldn’t use them up so fast. The problem for me may be that I live in a desert and it’s been 110 degrees regularly. It’s difficult to keep wipes from becoming evaporated no matter where I store them. These swipes are an excellent addition to Clinique’s skin care line, which I have relied on my whole life.
