I bought this charcoal soap after reading several reviews about it and other charcoal facial products. Apparently, charcoal is a good deep-pore cleanser, and is incredibly effective at clearing clogged pores and acne. So after much research, I picked up this particular brand while I was in Japan (at Tokyu Hands Ginza, though they can be found in almost any Tokyu Hands and a few specific Japanese drugstores). This came highly recommended and lauded, so I was eager to try it out. It contains kaolin clay and charcoal, both of which are supposedly powerhouse cleansers.
Packaging: just a simple waxed paper wrapping. You’ll need a soap dish (must be cleaned out regularly to prevent any unhygienic things growing over time) to keep it in, as it is literally just a bar of soap.
Use: I use one end for my back (I have backne and a lot of clogged pores), and the other end for my face. I rub the flat ends over the skin, then use my hands to work it up into a lather.
Result: THIS THING IS FANTASTIC. They really aren’t kidding when they say charcoal and kaolin clay are good for your skin. After a few days of use, my issue of being ravaged by mild acne (caused by travelling stress and other factors) and the perpetual problem of clogged pores IS GONE. My skin is clear and smooth, with only very few whiteheads in sight. The only times I ever have acne or whiteheads is when I get really grimy and don’t clean up properly or when it’s that time of the month. It’s also generally quite effective on my back (though not as spectacularly, but my problem of regular backne is pretty much vanquished as well).
Keep in mind that it’s a pretty strong soap, so I only use it once a day to prevent my skin from drying out and such. I usually use it at the end of the day when I’m in the shower, after gymming and whatnot. Would I buy it again? HELLS YES. Would I recommend it to anyone looking for a cheap but quick and good and reliable solution for clearing up clogged pores and acne? DEFINITELY YES.
