Do not use this to remove eye makeup if you have sensitive eyes! It burned my eyes pretty bad. They said this is a substitute for the discontinued eye makeup remover, but no where near close.

I think this product is a good example of how a good product can be compromised by adding fragrance and fragrant plant oils. I love how well this removes makeup, how it emulsifies with water and the clean feeling after I use it. However, after I use it I notice my eyes stinging and my skin sometimes gets blotchy and red which is rare for me. It’s nothing too major but it’s something that wouldn’t happen if it was fragrance free. For this reason, even though I really like some aspects of it, I won’t be repurchasing. I’ve also used other cleansing oils that are much cheaper and don’t irritate in the same way (the Palmer’s one worked well for me).
EDIT: For the last few months I have been experiencing pretty major flare-ups of contact dermatitis around my nose and mouth and I finally worked out this is the culprit. Unfortunately I’m having to return it to Loreal/ Kiehls in the hopes of getting a refund as it’s been a massive source of irritation for me.
UPDATE: Loreal/ Kiehls have been so awful to deal with. No token apology about the experience I had with the product, although they confirmed I could post it back and receive a refund. Now I’ve been passed around via email/ phone/ FB with no update even though I have confirmation they received the return. It’s been stressful and I honestly couldn’t recommend purchasing from a brand with this terrible customer service. In a crowded skincare market this kind of thing can make all the difference. Paula’s Choice were really amazing with a return I had but Kiehl’s has handed it so poorly!

I bought a smaller size (85ml) to test it out, there is no pump so it is quite difficult as I need to shake it upside down.
I do it just like what it says, oil-emulsify-wash with lukewarm water. It works wonderfully. Oh and yes, as a beginner in skincare routine, I believed oily skin people should not use cleansing oil, but it proved me wrong. It also doesn’t clog my skin (non-comedogenic formula remember!).
I like how it easily removes everything (even henna that I applied on my eyebrows!! it should stay for a week u know haha) on my face. After washing, my uneven skin feels softer and smoother.
I love this product.. Although the price is quite expensive, I am definitely repurchase!

Before I write review itself, I’m going to write some quick summery of my skin type so the review will be more relevant.
My skin is: generally normal with large pores, some blackheads and blemishes. Occasionaly my skin gets sensitive and dry. I also have tendency for occasional redness and red patches (it depends on the time of the month), also my skin becomes slightly oily during summer.
I bought this cleanser a few months ago after I ran out of Origins Clean Energy Gentle Cleansing Oil. I have to say I was sceptical before buying it, but as I use Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream and love it I decided to give a try Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Cleansing Oil.
After using it for the past several months I have to say, that I my feelings are mixed.
PROS:
– generally gentle,
– my skin feels soft,
– nice packaging, big thumbs up for a pump which makes it very comfy to use.
– takes makeup off really good
– doesn’t dry my skin out.
– doesn’t leave any residue ( at least in my case)
– doesn’t cause burning feeling
Cons:
Although my skin feels soft after using it and this makeup remover seems gentle, it also makes my skin feel a bit irritated and itchy while the oil is on my skin. From time to time ( it doesn’t occure during every cleansing) red patches appear on my cheeks and sometimes my face tends to stay red for some time after I wash the oil off. Sometimes I feel that my pores are slightly clogged. Some people might be sensitive to the smell.
I think my mixed feelings have a lot to do with the fact that my skin gets occasionaly sensitive
Overall I like Midnight Recovery Cleansing Oil. The irritation and itchiness in my case go away almost immediately after washing the oil off my face and following with second cleans ( I always double cleans). Red patches doesn’t appear very often. I think I will be swaping this one with Origins Clean Energy Gentle Cleansing Oil.

Love it.
Smells good and works! This removes all of my makeup, without leaving my skin feeling tight and dry. I actually really like the scent and find it relaxing to use before bed (I only use this for night time to remove makeup).

I’m kind of obsessed with cleansing oils right now and this is a great one. It smells absolutely lovely, is thin enough to spread easily over my skin, rich enough to remove even heavy waterproof makeup completely, forms a milky emulsion with water and rinses clean easily, and doesn’t cloud my vision like a lot of these oils can. It left my skin clean and soft and comfortable after use. Once I used up my small sample of it I immediately bought a full-size. The dark cobalt blue bottle looks great on my shelf as well. Kiehl’s did a great job with this!

This cleansing oil is amazing!! I have used Dermalogica’s pre cleanse for a long time as I bought a salon size and needed to finish it (I do not like waste lol) and it did not break me out. However, I always found that I needed to use something else such as micellar water, to get rid of the remaining parts of mascara pre cleanse didn’t remove.
I bought this after seeing Amelia Liana use it on youtube and she said how great it was at removing eye makeup so I thought why not try it. It removes my mascara really well, I use it the way it says on the bottle. Four pumps over the face and gently go back and fourth with your fingers, over the eyes. Add a little water to your fingers and repeat. This really does help break down the mascara/eye liner and removes everything perfectly.
It is pricey, I paid £32 which is very expensive in my opinion but it is definitely worth it. My skin feels hydrated and bright after I use it. Another plus point is that it does not leave my eyes blurry/foggy as pre cleanse and a few others I’ve tried, do.

I fully agree with the previous reviewer. This oil cleanser is GREAT! I have used different ones (Caudalie, Dermalogica, Vichy) but none were as effective as the Kiehl’s one.
The fragrance may seem strong (but not overwhelming) and I was a bit concerned that it would break me out. But it does not. Instead, it convinced me so much that I would recommend to others and buy again for myself:-)

This is a new product of the Midnight Recovery series I have been using the Midnight Recovery serum for ages. Sometimes i dont use a night serum like 2-3 months and after i start again i feel the difference accordingly. So at my latest visit to the local Kiehls store this popped up and i wanted a sample. aaaand yes… Ladies, this is something new to me because i have oily dry combo skin with some dry patches in winter. I always use a gel wash cleanser for cleaning my makeup cause it can cause some breakouts. But this one, take 1-2 pumps into your palm and use it directly on your face with makeup. With circular movement spread all over your face including your eve makeup. Than wet your hand with some water and continue moving your hands. You see that the oil gets creamy. After that wash with warm water.
It makes your skin super soft, moisturized and never itcy. It didnt cause any breakouts so far after 1 week. I recommend it to combination dry, or very dry skin types . Definately buy again.
