I prefer bioderma’s micellar water (pink bottle) to this. I found it left less of a film on my skin. I also found the bioderma one more effective in removing my makeup (especially eye makeup). However, I’m an idiot and bought two bottles of this and can’t return so I will be using both until I finish them. It’s not the worst but bioderma is better.

I’m fairly unimpressed by the quality of this cleansing water, and the packaging, which is a shame because I bought a deluxe size to start with (I know, I know). I find it takes a surprising around of scrubbing at the eyelash line to remove my mascara, which is bothersome and hard on my lashes. I don’t wear a waterproof mascara so it’s strange, I didn’t have this issue with the Sephora brand cleansing water or the Garnier cleansing water. It takes some work to remove my eye makeup as opposed to dissolving it with minimal effort. It doesn’t leave any greasy feeling or residue. It hasn’t even bothered my lids at the height of my frequent eye-area eczema outbreaks, so I can honestly say some of the most sensitive or allergy prone eyes can use it. I have used it on the face, and it leaves my skin feeling pleasant, but once again I was underwhelmed.
I don’t mind the light refreshing scent. Unfortunately in the deluxe size the pump pushes out product with too much force. It sounds strange but it shoots out and sprays off the cotton pad, and leaks over the sides of your hands. It doesn’t spray out enough to saturate the cotton pad, but pushing down the pump halfway still makes product shoot out with surprising velocity. With this in mind I won’t repurchase. When it comes to cleansing waters my HG would be Sephora brand, and my budget choice would be Garnier. This is outperformed by Garnier by a long shot, even thought this brand makes some beautiful products otherwise, it isn’t worth the money. I should have read the reviews first as I am disappointed by the product.
Edit: this also triggered an eczema outbreak on my eyelids which was quite painful. Unfortunately this was suggested as a product that was appropriate for sensitive skin. I originally discontinued use of Garnier’s cleansing water after developing an allergy to it after three years. Sadly I wouldn’t recommend this product if you have sensitive eyes.

If you’re not wearing a lot of makeup, this product is really nice. I don’t count on it to remove my eye makeup. But I found it in unexpected circumstances, when being in London staying up late I didn’t have a chance to do my usual skin cleanse/care. My skin gets irritated very easily so using something new on it was a gamble. Flights/traveling didn’t exactly help it either obviously. Surprisingly LRP didn’t irritate my skin, calmed it down even though it’s just a micelar water) . I also found unexpected qualities to it, whenever my eyes felt irritated after makeup or other, this water seem to really help. Even having simple scratches on the skin – it helps me)). I want to mention that I only use it occasionally. Btw I personally love the scent of it, but I can totally understand personal preference when people find it distracting. I imagine if I didn’t like the scent I wouldn’t have used it. The better question is why it is even scented, skincare shouldn’t be, in my opinion, cosmetics shouldn’t be.

Of course I would prefer this to be fragrance-free, but there doesn’t seem to be enough perfume in it to irritate my skin during the short time it’s on my skin before I wash it off.
Astonishingly, it says on the bottle that you don’t need to rinse this off. That blows my mind, because of course you do. Whether it’s called ”micellar water” or something else, it’s a type of cleanser, it contains cleansing agents, and whether you have sensitive skin or not, you should obviously never leave cleansing agents on your skin.
This is gentle, but not super efficient – it doesn’t take all of my makeup off. After using this, I’ll go over my skin with toner on a cotton pad, and there’s always residue, even if often just a small amount. Cleansing takes some time with this, you can’t just quickly wipe everything off (especially stubborn eye makeup) – this needs some time of gentle working in to dissolve the makeup.
So if you want a one-step-cleanser, this is not it. It only works (pretty well!) as a makeup remover as a first step before cleansing with a cleansing lotion, balm, gel or something else. (Which is actually the only way I think you’ll ever get a proper cleanse.) In that context, I like it. It’s very affordable, and doesn’t sting my eyes when removing eye-makeup, which is a big deal to me.

I agree with the previous reviewer. The fragrance is too much. I have sensitive skin, and this irritated it to the point it was flaking after only one use. I like some LRP products, and in general I trust their descriptions of their products, but this one is way off the mark in so many ways.

I wanted micellar water for those days when I need to remove makeup quickly and gently, and hopefully didn’t have to cleanse any further. Well, it removes my makeup quickly, without irritation and doesn’t dry my skin out.
Oh, but the smell… This is heavily fragranced, not “lightly scented” like the website notes and the fragrance lingers. So this is a big NOPE because the lingering fragrance gives me a headache. I would like to be able to just wipe off everything and not have to do anything else, but I can’t with this because if I don’t at least rinse my face the fragrance lingers. So I sometimes use this to do a double cleanse, using this to get off makeup, then a different creamy cleanser to remove the smell left behind.
Update, January 2019:
Came across this while cleaning out my cabinet and thought I’d give it another try because it seemed like the fragrance mellowed out. I still love how well it removes my makeup without irritation or drying my skin out but the fragrance is still a big NOPE for me. Tossed.
On a whim I sniffed a bottle in a store and hmmm, this one didn’t reek of fragrance. So like the glutton for punishment that I am I bought it and gee, this new bottle isn’t anything like the prior one. It’s still fragranced but very lightly and it smells different, no lingering offensive smell. I still like how well it removes my makeup and will probably use it just on days when I’m feeling lazy and don’t want to use cleanser & water.

La Roche Posay have really messed up things for us. I used to love Physiological Solution and my skin improved when I was using this. Now they’ve introduced two Ultra versions: one for sensitive skin, with capric/caprylic triglicerides and one for reactive skin, – guess – capric/caprylic triglycerides!. C/CT. Seriously? Coconut derivative for acne prone skin? Go and do your research, LRP and stop messing about with products which were good enough.
I bought the ultra for reactive skin in a hurry, didn’t check the ingredients as the pharmacist said it replaced Physiological Solution and it gave me three big cysts. Out you go!

L’Oreal owns La Roche Posay, and they’ve done something amazing with this micellar water–the main surfactant is polaxamer–which is a contact lens surfactant, so this won’t irritate sensitive eyes. It’s also really good for calming down rosacea, and it doesn’t cause breakouts or strip skin. It can be used as an eye makeup remover, even on sensitive eyes, because of the polaxamer, so you only need one product, not micellar water and eye makeup remover. It’s gentle enough to just leave on skin. It’s really not replaceable if you have sensitive skin and eyes.
This also doesn’t have any preservatives banned in Europe. (Be sure to get the Ultra version, some La Roche Posay Micellar Waters sold in the U.S.do.) I took off one point because it has fragrance, which can be a sensitizing ingredient.
This is a little pricey, but if you buy the largest size, you’ll only have to replace it about twice a year, which should bring the yearly cost to under $50.00. L’Oreal makes a less expensive version under the L’Oreal name, but it has irritating preservatives. Lancome also has a version, but it costs twice as much. This is the best of the lot, for price and performance.

This is crap. For comparison, I had been using the Garnier SkinActive Micellar Cleansing Water Waterproof, which does a pretty good job (I’d say 4/5) of removing everything from eyeshadow over primer to lipstick to waterproof eyeliner and mascara. This stuff didn’t even budge my eyeshadow! Come on. I bought it because of the cute travel-sized bottle, which cost more than the full-sized Garnier.
Imagine my shock when I was in my hotel room basically shedding eyelashes trying to remove eye makeup with this. If I had used actual water from the sink, I would’ve had comparable results. I dumped the product out and poured some Garnier in when I got home. Even CVS’s generic Garnier works loads better than this.
