I received this along with a foaming cream cleanser in my last Julep subscription before they discontinued that service last month (no worries, I moved on to Beauty Fix subscription box and loving that one!). Anyway, this is a nice cleansing oil that cleans fairly well but does not remove 100% of my mascara. It emulsifies nicely with water and does not feel oily after rinsing. Smells nice too. I noticed that after using this and the face wash my face felt a bit tight but did feel clean. I probably would not purchase due to cost and because it doesn’t fully remove mascara. However, not a bad cleansing oil option and I will use it up.

I’m 29 with extremely oily skin that’s prone to breakouts. With that being said, this oil was a godsend when it came to oil control, and I was tempted to keep using it for that reason alone. I would use it morning and night with the konjac sponge and had no need to moisturize after due to how well it seemed to lock in moisture. Prior to using this I would normally end up oily within four hours, but with this, I only appeared dewy for the rest of the day. It was awesome!
However… after using this religiously for a little over a month, I realized that my breakouts were getting worse, and not in a purge-type way. Looking at the ingredient list, I noticed some oils that I’ve realized don’t get along with my skin, such as olive oil (with a comedogenic level of 2, it’s great for most people, but my skin hates it). Back to the store – and drawing board – for me.

I was very skeptical when I tried this. I don’t even remember why I actually ordered it, since I always get polishes or occasionally makeup in my Maven box. However, I am now in love. I actually used a promo code to make sure I have two more (full size) bottles under my sink!
As others have said, it removes makeup very very well. It just melts off. You don’t have to rub very hard, but as it’s safe for eye area, I do spend a moment massaging my eyes to get the liner and mascara off completely. I do occasionally have a tiny bit left over, but frankly that’s exactly the same for me for any remover, and it’s more about my own use than the product at that point. I’ve taken off glitter eyemakeup with it and it’s more work of course, but the work isn’t getting the glitter off; it comes right off; it’s about making sure every tiny particle is washed out of my lashes, which is, again, always the challenge.
I use this in tandem with Julep’s Konjac sponge and it is such love. I look forward to taking off my makeup now lol. I took off one lippie for the packaging because I wish it just pumped into my hand like a soap dispenser or something would.

Meh. That’s about the nicest thing I can say about this oil cleanser. Maybe I was just expecting too much considering how much it retails for (I got it as part of my monthly Julep box), but it’s nothing more than average. The size is convenient for travel, I guess, but frankly if I paid anything close to full price for this I would feel like I was getting ripped off considering it’s only 1.5 ounces. I’d rather spend a couple dollars more and get a nice big (by comparison) bottle of MAC cleanse off oil instead.

Such an amazing product. I never used a cleansing oil before this, out of fear that it would cause my oily, acne-prone skin to react. This has been one of the best things I’ve added to my skin routine. After using for about a month, I can definitely say that my skin is clearer, smoother, softer, and just generally more radiant as a result of this product. It’s amazing to use as a makeup remover, before I use a foaming cleanser because:
-it melts away all my makeup without tugging on the skin (even waterproof mascara!)
-it smells amazing
-washes clean without any greasy residue
-my skin never feels tight or itchy after using, even around my eczema patches
-I don’t have to generate waste from makeup towelettes
-it’s a cruelty-free brand!
The packaging is physically beautiful, but it’s a little difficult to pump more oil when you already have oil on your hands. It’s a little on the pricey side ($28 USD), but a little of the product goes a long way. Other than that, I have no complaints about this amazing cleansing oil!

I like this so much I’m fretting about whether or not the new container will come before I finish this one. First got it in a monthly Maven box and, to date, it’s the best extra I’ve ever received. I didn’t think to review it until I tried out a cleansing balm sample and woke up with a clogged pore. Oh, I know what you’re thinking – a single clogged pore? Get over yourself. Unfortunately, I’m already in constant combat with my mega pores so I have just about named the biggest of them. Cheeky was under control, clean and would shrink with my regular routine and allow herself to be covered by primer until now. No longer empty she looks like an ice pick acne scar. I’ve been shoving BHA at her to regain control.
The Julep cleanser removes every bit of makeup. I’ve even rubbed it onto my dry morning skin before a shower to cleanse and add moisture without any drying ingredients. This must be the best kept secret ever. If more knew about it, Julep would be known for their cleansing oil instead of their polish.
Back to how it works. The container isn’t glass so its bathroom tile friendly and the oil dispenses via a pump. It smooths on easily. I use a hot wash cloth to first give my face a little steam before wiping it off. I do a second face steam/wipe just for grins and, if I’m lazy I just tone with witch hazel and moisturize. I’ve had not I’ll effects from using just this as a Cleanser but I do follow it with FAB cleanser and the Clairisonic or a Shea Terra mask just to lightly exfoliate & prepare my skin for serum and moisturizer.

my holy grail makeup remover! this was the very first cleansing oil i ever received and i didn’t like it at first. i was kind of like… “what’s the point of this??” but then i saw what it did for my skin and how well it removes makeup. after that i couldn’t stop using it.
the smell isn’t too bad. it reminds me of olive oil with some orange undertones, or vice versa. it gets all of your makeup off and just makes your skin feel clean. i’ve used other cleansing oils (brands like nude and dhc) and i prefer this one a lot more.
it comes with a price tag, $28, which i feel is overpriced, so i tend to only purchase when i can find a good deal, or if i can find someone who’s willing to sell it to me for cheaper (at least the maven price, ~$22). other than that, i highly recommend this!

This cleansing oil works great to remove every trace of makeup. I even like to follow up with a micellar water soaked cotton round, and not a trace of makeup comes off on it. But the smell is unpleasant to me…kind of citrusy, like the same smell of a lot of Honest Co. baby products. If it came flowery or berry or chocolate scented I would be willing to repurchase. On the website it costs >$22 for Maven subscribers, but I honestly think it’s only worth half that and so I don’t recommend buying it without some sort of discount code. Basically, yes it works wonderfully but I dislike the smell and so I would not repurchase. Update: changing rating to a 5. Three pumps work fantastic in removing all my makeup, and just cause the scent doesn’t appeal to me shouldn’t stop anyone else from giving it a try. Oh yes, and this does rinse clean.
