Clinique puts out great products, particularly in skin care. I’ve grown up with the brand, as both my Mom and Grandma would share some of their GWP samples with me through the years. As a budget-conscious adult, it wasn’t on my list and in general Clinique isn’t as flashy as other brands so it was easy to skip over. However, I’m beginning to fall in love again with the brand. I picked this face cleaner up at the Cosmetics Company Store at a great discount. I forgot that I had really enjoyed the “liquid facial soap – mild” better (used samples previously), and this is the oily skin formula. I didn’t notice a huge difference, but I felt the mild made my face feel a little more clean (?) — just personal preference I suppose.
The product lathers up well, and my face never feels dry or tight after using. It has almost no fragrance and I’m a big fan of the pump bottle. The packaging is very sturdy and solid. At regular price I don’t think I would repurchase, as in general I don’t believe it necessary to spend a lot of money on cleaners that are on your face for so little time. Moisturizers and serums are a different story. However, if I came across another great deal, I’d absolutely pick this up again.

I suffer from painfully severe acne. Pimples would develop on my face almost every single day-I also suffer from hypersensitivity. My skin barrier is damaged from harsh dermalogical cleansers and acne treatments which also made my skin very much prone to bright redness and stinging. If you suffer from this type of condition, I suggest u to steer clear of this cleanser. I understand that this cleanser works wonders for many people, but it stings your eyes terribly and strips your skin’s natural barrier, leaving it dry and making any skin problems worse. It doesn’t even cleanse my skin that well and left me with clogged pores. I also forgot to mention that my skin is extremely oily with enlarged pores.
If you’re looking for a cleanser, there are tons of oher alternatives out there with better ingredients and better results.

The “large” bottle lasts forever. I’ve been using this product for years, but my skin was double time producing oil yet felt taut so I was recommended Clinique Extra Mild Liquid Facial Soap. That was horrible! It clogged my pores, broke me out in cystic acne, & I’m still recovering after returning it back to Macys for a full refund. I was having to use Dial Gold Anti-Bac soap w Cleocin-T (which is an RX) until I got mu Clinique’s Acne Solutions 4 Week Starter Kit & a bar of Acne Solutions Salicylic acjd soap (their bars of soap last forever; price per use is a penny or 2. I have some of the Liquid Oily Facial soap I was double cleansing first w Ponds cold cream which I swear by!) then this soap or oily skin bar soap, toner 1.0 or #1 & DDMGel. I never had a break out in like, 2 years! Then I was running low on this soap so I decided to try the Extra Mild Liquid Soap Bad idea!! I thought maybe the oily skin soap was too much for me, making me greasy & dull complexion/sallow. I do better w the bar soap for oily skin so I would not buy this again but that doesn’t not mean it’s a great cleanser bcoz it was for me for many years. I will use the Acne Solutions w ponds for the 4 weeks to get my face back on track back to where it was before the Extra Mild soap incident & I will try using ponds then Salicylic acid soap or oily skin soap in Bar form. I will wash my face w Dial Gold liquid Anti-Bac soap after the 4 weeks if some blemishes start popping up but using that really helped clear up my skin & was suggested to me by a nurse & she was right it does work! AVOID the extra mild liquid facial soap if you are at all blemish prone only use if you are super dry & then with caution that stuff is so wicked nasty. I will use up my Liquid Oily Skin soap but I won’t be buying it again. it just isn’t the right fit for my skin’s needs.

I have oily skin & have tried this before & cleans off all the oil pretty well but I will never repurchase this again Bc stupid Clinique put in menthol in this which is a unnecessarily irritating ???? ingredient for the skin! Thankfully this cleanser didn’t really bother my skin like those drug store acne cleansers with a ton of menthol did in my youth! This cleanser did have a pleasant smell to it & different to their mild liquid soap due to its different herbal essences! Bc this one has the saw pimento in it! In conclusion I would definitely recommend buying only the mild liquid soap from Clinique even with oily skin! Bc the mild one ☝️ is strong enough for oily skin & doesn’t have the menthol in it & has a pleasant chamomile tea ☕️ scent to it! So go mild if you have normal to oily combo skin!

This has been my HG cleanser for almost 8 years!! I have tried other brands (Cetaphil, Clarins, Fresh, Philosophy, Simple, etc) that are marketed for sensitive skin every now and then but always fell back on Clinique to restore my skin to its original condition when these products didn’t work for me. This never fails to clean my face thoroughly while leaving it smooth and soft. The mild menthol scent surprisingly does not irritate my skin and frankly, I quite like the minty scent as it helps to wake me up in the morning.

Very smooth yet foams really well. It does have that cooling, menthol feel others have talked about but if you’re used to using Liquid Castile Peppermint Soap then this is barely there. I put it directly on my Foreo Luna Mini and move it around my face until everything is clean. I bought the tube instead of the pump for a two week vacation I took since it was cheaper and more compact. So far my sensitive, red, greasy, break out prone skin is very balanced: thoroughly clean yet super soft. Will continue using and probably repurchase.

I have pretty oily skin, I get oily in no time after I wash my face.
I bought this hoping for something that will keep my sebum a little more calm, as in the summer I am glowing like a bulb. I must say this is harsh on the skin, it dries so bad I feel my face tight after using it. Some hydrating cream does the job, but in the long run this is drying. I use it rarely, only when I feel I need a good wash. I won’t buy it again.

The smell is a bit off for me . It does clean my skin very well without drying . Recommend to everyone but I personally will not repurchase as there’re a lot more great option out there .

I like this cleanser because it’s very powerful — definitely not gentle or mild, really gets every last trace of everything. Great for my oily skin and for getting rid of makeup. I bought this because it is fragrance-free and contains sulfates (which are getting really hard to find, surprisingly, in facial cleansers, and I need them for my oily skin — these newfangled “gentle surfactants” just don’t cut it for me). It has a great consistency and travels well too. The only thing I don’t like about this cleanser is the amount of menthol in it. It’s quite low on the ingredients list, so I thought that I wouldn’t notice it that much. But OMG, I find the menthol tingle of this product to be absolutely overwhelming. Because I know that menthol is just a gimmick and doesn’t actually mean anything for cleansing, I get extremely annoyed by it. I find the sensation uncomfortable and unpleasant, and I think Clinique would do well to get rid of it. Other than that, this is a great cleanser. And even though I dislike the menthol tingling, I will say that it did not cause any redness or irritation for me (and I have very sensitive skin, so I’m actually shocked). The menthol annoys me so much that I won’t repurchase this unless A) they reformulate it to exclude menthol; or B) I can’t find another cleanser as powerful as this one. Still on the hunt, will report back!

This has been my holy grail cleanser for years. I have super oily, breakout-prone skin and nothing cleans it as good as this, without drying out or irritating. If I ever try another cleanser, I notice quite soon that my skin gets a bit red, irritated, flaky, and usually not as clean. I always end up going back to Clinique. Used with a Clarisonic, it’s amazing!
I would probably recommend not using this around the eyes if you get dry skin there though. I notice in the winter that I get flaky there if I do. Just use a gentle makeup remover around the eyes.
I know Paula Begoun doesn’t like this because it has menthol in it. Well, it’s quite a small amount of menthol – nothing like those drugstore cleansers that brag about their “tingling” effect. Maybe I notice a tiny tingling effect from this if I leave it on for a while. But seriously, this is still so much less irritating than anything else I have tried.
I also like that a little goes a long way with this. Yes, it costs a bit more than something from the drugstore, but you only need a pea-size amount so a bottle lasts a long time.
