   So I never tried the original version of this so i can’t do a comparison. I have mixed feelings on this one. I’ll start with the good points. There are very few cleansers I’ve used that get literally every last drop of makeup off my face and this is one of them. A cotton pad with toner wiped over my face after cleansing showed not a single smudge of makeup. That alone is very impressive. My skin felt really good after using this – not stripped like some cleansers. Now for the bad points. You’re supposed to apply this to a dry face. Not an issue at the end of the day when I can just stand over my sink, but in the mornings I wash my face in the shower as my final step and obviously my face was always wet by that time. Also to actually cover my face I always had to use a bunch of product, so I went through this tube really quickly. Coupled with the fact that’s it’s not even available in the US anymore, and I gotta order it from Europe, leads me to say I probably won’t purchase this again.

   I first used this product last year while living in Rome. It really seemed to pull the city grime and makeup out of my pores, and left my skin extra soft. Returned to the States, only to discover that Clarins doesn’t sell it here. Why oh why oh why?

   Have repurchased twice through third-party sellers on Amazon, but would so much rather be able to buy it at Sephora or Nordstrom or even through the Clarins site. I’ve just turned 50, and my always-oily skin has been getting drier of late. This product helps.

   I’ve only ever used the new version of the Extra Comfort Anti Pollution Cleansing Cream so I cannot make any comparisons with the old formula.

   On to the technical details: this is a peach-coloured cream with a thick consistency. Can’t really place what it smells like but it’s rather pleasant to my nose.

   Clarins promotes a particular method of applying it to the skin and whilst I have seen a difference when I do follow it, I’m usually too absentminded when I’m going through my skin routine to actually go through the motions. Nothing bad has happened because of it. Knock on wood.

   It doesn’t feel oily on application and I like that it doesn’t sink into my skin – I’m not a fan of cleanser residue residing in my pores. I use two cotton pads soaked in tepid water to remove the cleanser from my skin and it does the trick. I follow up with a swipe with one of Clarins’ toners but I don’t think it’s necessary at all.

   Depending on how my skin feels, I might follow up with a second cleanse with a gel non-foaming cleanser or I might just leave it be (usually when my skin is feeling parched/raw from the sun and other debauchery). I found that when I just leave it as it is, my skin feels nourished and not greasy. It’s done a great job with calming any redness I’ve had with overuse of topicals. I’ve tried not doing a second cleanse whilst holidaying in tropical climates and whilst the lingering residue might feel slightly heavy, I have not broken out from it.

   Can’t say much about its anti-pollution powers, though. How does one even go about measuring such a thing?

   The packaging is, for lack of a better word, lovely. I don’t think I’d like to dig my cleanser out of a tub/jar so the tube is very handy. Plus, it looks quite pretty on the counter in all its peachy glory.

   This was my first real foray into cream cleansers and I’ve re-purchased it when my first tube ran out so I guess that says something about my fondness for this product.

   If there was any limitation on the product, it would be the price. At £25.00 per 200ml, this is probably towards the lower end of the mid-range cleanser market. Seeing as it’s a safe bet for my temperamental skin, I’d happily scrimp pennies for it.

   This cleansing cream has replaced the original Clariins Extra Comfort Cleansing Cream for sensitive skin. Where the original came in an 125ml tube and was a very light peachy colour, this one has been upsized to about 200ml and has a different colour. The SA gave me a few sample tubes and said its “better” than the original. Not sure what makes it “better” but I’ve been using it for two weeks and it appears to be doing the job just as well as the old version. The new formula remains light-weight and easy to use. I’ve had no breakouts and my skin feels moisturised without the heavy cloggy after-feel that comes with using some cream cleansers. The only thing that puts me off about it is the smell. Its a heavy geranium fragrance in comparison to the very light barely there scent of the original. I love geraniums but the smell is a bit strong for a cleanser. Heavy fragrances are a bit much for sensitive skins and while I didnt get any negative reactions, this could potentially irritate some ultra senstivie skins. In fact the scent would be better suited to a body lotion. At first I was peeved that the cleanser’s price had increased so drastically. But I see that the price has been almost exactly upscaled here in South Africa in proportion to the increase in size still making it a reasonable buy. With regards to it’s make-up removing abilities, I see it tends to leave some traces of mascara the few times I’ve tried it. Doesn’t appear to have trouble removing a touch of blush or lipstick. I usually remove makeup with grapeseed oil or cold cream, and then proceed with the Clarins cleansing cream so it doesn’t really affect me. I will probably purchase this once my samples are finished as this and the original Clarins cleansing cream has made me despise foaming face cleansers and heavy cream cleansers. For those of you who are scared of fragrance, I suggest you get some samples first just in case the “improved” formula does not agree with you. I’m removing one lippy because the fragrance is strong in comparison to the original.

   I love this stuff. It’a fairly new product that replaced the original Extra-Comfort Cleansing Cream. I honestly like this formula better. I find it’s a little thicker and you tend to need less product. It’s also now a 200ml bottle for $44(CAD) so while it is more expensive, it’s better value for how much you get versus the original. A dime sized amount massaged into dry skin completely removes my makeup. It’s just the easiest product to use, smells light but pretty, and leaves the skin feeling amazingly soft and comfortable, hence the name. As for the anti-pollution claim, I don’t live in a really polluted area or anything so I can’t say that’s done much for me. But this product is pretty much fool proof for me and doens’t make taking makeup off a huge chore. On days that I wear really heavy makeup, I mix two parts of this with one part Clarins Pure Melt Cleansing gel (which is an oil cleanser) and it removes even waterproof eye makeup. But even on it’s own this stuff is fabulous. Highly recommend.
